  1. Thank you kindly, one and all. You all make this the best, friendliest, caring and joyful forum to be a member of. Virtual champagne for everyone! (and cookies for any teetotallers and youngsters: )
  2. I thought I'd seen them somewhere before, but I looked for them over Christmas and couldn't find them anywhere, unless my local WHSmith had run out?
  3. Although my TBR did increase after joining the forum, I've also read at least 50% more every year since joining too! When I was still buying all my books in paperback, I would definitely buy more than I read, but often only because of the old Waterstone's 3 for 2 offer. Now that I have my Kindle, I *generally* seem to be buying less, but that might just be because of my plan last year to clear my TBR, but I bought far fewer books than I read last year. I do love my Sunday morning browsing through Amazon wishlists, reading reviews of new book in the papers, and still can't walk past a bookshop without at least looking in the window, although if it's a great bookshop, I can almost guarantee I'll end up buying some books too!
  4. I've never seen Amazon vouchers in the shops, I'm afraid, and I *think* you can only register your Kindle if you have an Amazon account which requires at least one credit or debit card registered against it.
  5. That was my fault for reading it too quickly, sorry frankie I'm not really following the challenge anymore, but I do like taking part in the group readings, so I'd be interested to see what the next one might be.
  6. Not sure if I've mentioned it before, but I read ALL the books I'd had on my TBR and it was down to zero a few months ago. (I wonder if I still have a smug look on my face? I'm guessing that's a yes.) So I don't really have many outstanding books, and certainly none older than a few months. Just saying. Good book - had been hoping it might have made it through for the Reading Circle next month as it would have given me the excuse to read it again. Can't recommend this enough - thought I'd be bored stiff when I got given it for Christmas, but ended up being fascinated by it! Loved all of these too! Read them all, NOW!!! What are you waiting for? These are lovely too - a couple of treats for you to look forward to Laura
  7. I can't believe it's the fourth anniversary of my joining BCF today! Happy anniversary to me!
  8. Hi Martina!
  9. Hi John, you might like to try the Quick Reads books. This is from their introduction page explaining what they're all about:
  10. I really want A Royal Affair to win Best Foreign Language Film - my absolute favourite film of last year.
  11. I finished Tomorrow, When The War Began and have started Polly by M. C. Beaton
  12. I have to have the no bits orange juice too - can't bear thick or lumpy drinks of any kind! I'm currently drinking my new favourite juice, blueberry.
  13. Thanks! I don't think the Admiral's name is ever given, but I love Wentworth and the Crofts too, but definitely not mean old Lady Russell I've been thinking about this too (perhaps I should change the title of the thread to include least favourite too?), and mine would have to be Mr Woodhouse, I just found myself sneering every time he was brought into the story. Oh dear - I really disliked the whole of Emma, so can't agree with you, especially on the first one, but at least the Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill elements of the story were the best bits of the book for me
  14. So sorry for your loss carm.

    Hey

    Hello Athena!
  16. You can't beat a bit of Johnny, eh?
  17. See, the beginning was the worst part for me!!!
  18. Well, that's where we differ already then! I'm not a fan of McEwan, so if you are, then you've got a better chance of liking it than me
  19. Phew! What a relief you caught them in time - I bet you never thought you be so glad to search for missing lego!
  20. Poached eggs on toast
  21. I hope you get on better with Saturday than I did, Ben! I didn't enjoy it at all, but I read it for my library reading group, and it was a bit of a marmite book, so maybe you'll be in the LOVE it group At least it's reasonably short - the only thing in its favour for me.
  22. Another Day In The Frontal Lobe sounds interesting - have you read Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything? I think you'd enjoy it - it's sort of part memoir and travel, but all about the authors investigation into memory and he covers some of the biology of the brain in it too.
  23. I like the film - I thought it was so different from the book that I can view it as almost a different story ... and it's got Johnny Depp in it, so it's already onto a winner with me! Juliette Binoche is lovely as Vianne too.
  24. I'm about half way through Tomorrow, When The War Began now, and it's great so far!
