I hope you have a very enjoyable year of reading in 2018. Thanks again for the Round Robin challenge, I'm looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into it as like you, I finished the English Counties this year. Which reminds me, good to see The Old Wives Tale as your Fiction runner-up of the year. I'd never heard of Bennett before the challenge, and I this was one of my favourites too. I'm certainly planning to read more of his books although I'm not sure when it'll be as my TBR is huge at the moment.

@karen.d I’d like to challenge you to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I’ve picked it up a few times but never bought it, so would be interested to know if you think it’s worth it!
-
I finished another couple of chapters of 21st-Century Yokel yesterday as well as finishing The Dark Is Rising and Christmas Dinner of Souls (which despite being for children, was actually a bit scary, and I wish I finished it during daylight!). Today, I’m going to be starting Sky Chasers by Emma Carroll, plus an M. C. Beaton romcom on my Kindle.
-
Yes, whenever you’re ready. I’ve set up mine today, but won’t be updating the books read etc until the new year.
-
Have you got a book blog thread or a members thread here? I don’t have a goodreads or LibraryThing account, so I’ve just put mine on my book blog thread here on the forum
-
Sounds like an excellent idea @Inver! My other half normally buys me books for Christmas but he was too busy decorating this year, so I went out yesterday and used my stamp cards and reward points to treat myself to a selection instead.

A very mixed day today. In the space of the 100 yards walk between the shop and the cafe, it started to rain, poured with rain, stopped raining, the sun started shining and then the wind nearly blew me off my feet! Very British weather!
-
I'm well over halfway through 21st-Century Yokel now (and loving it) and I've also started Christmas Dinner of Souls by Ross Montgomery. Aiming to sit down and finish The Dark Is Rising now.

For the first year since 1995, the number of independent bookshops in the UK rose in 2017, albeit by only one. Interesting article on the Guardian website: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2017/dec/25/were-here-for-the-long-haul-are-independent-bookshops-finally-back-on-the-rise I'm definitely trying to buy more books from independent bookshops instead of Amazon, but I have to say that Waterstones is probably where most of my books are bought at the moment. Although I still read on Kindle, I think I'm about 50/50 between physical books and e-books, but I have increased my purchases through my local indie, but Waterstones tends to be more tempting because of the discounts/offers, reward points and stamp cards, so I do have to think of my purse too.

It's taken me the best part of the day, but my book list thread is up and ready for the new year. I'm not sure how many full reviews I'll be writing as I've been a bit lax in keeping up to date recently, but I will try to write at least a brief comment on all books this year.
