Dances With Wolves is an amazing movie.

Well it's true. I b*tch about it all the time, and it's a disaster, but I love it.
Imagine an abridged Twilight, with the cr*p cut out. It'd be like two pages long.

It wasn't so much that the post was rude, it was the giant leap from
I don't even understand why they print abridged versions.to
Are you saying that (for example) people who have learning difficulties shouldn't be allowed to enjoy the premise of a story if they can't manage to read the whole thing then?!I wasn't SAYING anything of the sort, such things just didn't occur to me.
Anyway, I'm all for people printing what they want how they want, I just don't understand why anybody, difficulties or no, would want to read them. Then again, I like Twilight, so I obviously have some issues myself and shouldn't really be allowed have a say.

Star Trek Manga?
The mind boggles.

I love how having an opinion automatically means I believe my views should be imposed on everybody else. I said I don't (i.e, personally) understand why abridged versions are printed (not that they shouldn't be), meaning they are of no use and value to me. Personally I wouldn't read an abridged version of a book I had difficulty with - I'd read something else first instead and come back to it later, like I did with everything I was too young to understand/read when I was a kid. The reason it's called an 'opinion' is because it's a view that's relevant to my character - it's not a belief regarding how things should be.

I've never read anything Korean. Most of what I've read is the basis for some anime or other, actually. Rozen Maiden and Death Note would be two of my favourites (both manga and anime), but the best in my opinion is Angel Sanctuary. That was adapted only into one OVA, and never completed. But the manga is superb, and the artwork is beautiful. I have a hardback colour artbook based on the series too, and it's amazing.
Only other manga I've read is Battle Royale - I saw the movie, and read the book, figured I may as well go for all three mediums! I have to admit, I actually thought the manga style suited the story best. Live action movie couldn't quite capture the crazy Japanese-ness of it, the book didn't capture any of the bloody violence. An anime would have done well too, I think. But I suppose a lot of what is enjoyable about Battle Royale is the serious tone in it. Hmm.

I don't even understand why they print abridged versions. Anybody who appreciates the story will want to read the full thing, and anybody who doesn't get to read the full thing won't fully appreciate it.
It's like Director's Cut movies. Take Lord Of The Rings for example. Those movies go on for about 2.5 weeks, and thats just the theatrical versions. But I bought all three directors cuts (about 4 hours apiece) and I'd never watch them any other way again. There are some great extra scenes, and I always feel I'm missing out if I don't see the full thing.

Shouldn't this be in General Chat under Music/TV/Movies?

Alexander Pope's Eloisa to Abelard.
I won't post it all, as it's very long, but my favourite segments are the following:
Unequal task! a passion to resign,
For hearts so touch'd, so pierc'd, so lost as mine.
Ere such a soul regains its peaceful state,
How often must it love, how often hate!
How often hope, despair, resent, regret,
Conceal, disdain--do all things but forget.
When at the close of each sad, sorrowing day,
Fancy restores what vengeance snatch'd away,
Then conscience sleeps, and leaving nature free,
All my loose soul unbounded springs to thee.
O Death all-eloquent! you only prove
What dust we dote on, when 'tis man we love.
Such if there be, who loves so long, so well;
Let him our sad, our tender story tell;
The well-sung woes will soothe my pensive ghost;
He best can paint 'em, who shall feel 'em most.
I love the whole poem, but they're the best lines in my opinion.

I shall stand with you - I don't understand why everyone seems to be going gaga over RP either - he's decidedly average looking and actually a little odd-looking IMO.
He's not good looking at all. But he's still attractive

Well now i am intrigued.
I may consider, there seems no end to the twilight gossip, i feel like i'm missing out
edit:
My tastes are exemplary or whatever the word is! Teacakes and ham for instance is lovely. This has a lot to do with 'Twilight' i know.
If I ever catch you with ham and teacakes I'm going to burn them both.
And you should give Twilight a go - just don't blame me if you hate how addicted you get
-
HAHA you should Rawr. I wouldn't put it past you to like it!
It's terrible, but in a guilty satisfying way.
-
They took everything a bit too far. That's what I loved about it. The whole movie is like a caricature of the book
-
Teh = the. Jasper is the sex. The is a.k.a 'teh' among computer nerds, as it's a misspelling associated with incoherent little idiots typing too quickly, or something.
-
I'm stumped.. whats 'teh sex' even MEAN?
Sexy.
-
Maybe I'm imagining it. I do that.
I get told I read WAY too much into the characterisation in Sweeney Todd.
-
Uh hello, it's *my* job to diss it all the time!
But I love the movie.
The soundtrack is amazing.
-
Well I didn't expect much better outta the movie.
I think people are too harsh on Kristen though, I think she did well, and I think she and Rob went well together.
Alice was pretty badly done in that scene alright though Lex.
And the baseball scene is epic. I mean, it saves the entire movie. It's awesome.

LMAO yeah. I do love the initial conversation in Biology II though. 'Hello, I'm Edward Cullen.' I always think of Meyer's description of his voice as being velvety, and how amazingly accurate Rob's voice is lmao.
I'm so sad.
