  1. What on Earth is The Neon Bible?! I like the name
  2. In the Rory Gilmore challenge thread. CaliLily, Frankie, Kylie, Ooshie, Kate and I are all reading it. (There might be more, not sure). There's no massive discussion going on as everyone is still reading it, some only a short way into it, but I just added my thoughts on the entire Cathy-Heathcliff pairing.
  3. Have you read the bit in my signature yet? My sig is my favourite paragraph but those entire 3-4 pages of conversation on the hilltop are brilliant. One criticism I (and many others) have of the novels is that you don't ever really get a clear view of Gerald's true nature - you get glimpses alright but there's always the suggestion that he's capable of so much more, sickeningly evil acts. That said, I found myself not minding too much - it was embedded in my skull that he was pure evil, so it was more seeing how that develops that I enjoyed. Don't get too excited - book 1 is only the warm-up, and it's never THAT amazingly epic. I don't want you to be disappointed with it, is all. I doubt you will be, I mean, it's action-packed and twisty-turny, but not nearly as epic as the trilogy gets.
  4. Right, I finished I, Lucifer, which started out brilliantly but declined rather steadily from about the halfway mark until it almost perked up during the very rushed ending. Worth a read, if you're okay with insane amounts of expletives (often blasphemous) and sex or sex-related things, because other than it's ability to gross me out at times, it's hilarious, very well written, and has some absolutely fantastic passages. Currently reading: No Way To Say Goodbye (a.k.a. Apart From The Crowd, in Ireland) by Anna McPartlin, and I'm enjoying it a lot. Her books always crack me up, tug the ole heart strings and are easy to read. Also joining in with a re-read of Wuthering Heights, which is a nice distraction from all the new stories I'm forcing into my cranium lately. Next up: Probably Vlad by C. C. Humphreys.
  5. I love Cathy, Heathcliff and Nelly, and I like disliking Isabella and Edgar. Post Chapter-13 spoiler: My overall opinion on Cathy & Heathcliff as a pair (includes spoilers to end of novel):
  6. YAY Picture Of Dorian Gray. Is that on the Rory list or is that just on the Frankie list? I might read it with you anyway when you get to it - any excuse!
  7. Read 36 tiny-print pages of Wuthering Heights, 70 pages of No Way To Say Goodbye and added to I, Lucifer it totals 149 pages today. Not too bad! Going to read a bit more of each before bed. ETA: Read 52 tiny-print pages of Wuthering Heights, 117 pages of No Way To Say Goodbye, and the last 78 pages of I, Lucifer. Total: 247 pages
  8. I just read six chapters in an attempt to catch up. I'll probably read another chapter or two tonight. This first section is actually one of my favourites in the novel - it's the only time you get any sense of happiness between Cathy & Heathcliff, though they're probably both incapable of true happiness. I also like the start of the novel, because Wuthering Heights is utterly inundated by a heavy atmosphere - it's tense and angry, the relations are not immediately obvious - there's a clear sense of history, and the reader gets to dive into it as completely unknowingly as Mr. Lockwood himself. Also, for those who sometimes get confused with the relations, here's a quick diagram as per explanation in Chapter 4: .................Earnshaw............Linton ................/....................../...... Frances-Hindley.....Cathy-Edgar....Isabella-Heathcliff ..........|..................... |......................| .......Hareton............Catherine... -.... Linton
  9. Ohh okay. I don't follow that challenge, interesting as many of the books are, coz I'd feel like a fraud when I've never seen Gilmore Girls I might join ye for this one though, it's been a while since I last read it.
  10. Everyone is reading Wuthering Heights! I love that book. I've read another 40 odd pages of I, Lucifer (35 to go) and am going to start reading more of my current Anna McPartlin book soon.
  11. I'm now eating BBQ Pringles
  12. An apple! Call the papers, I'm actually eating FRUIT!
  13. My apologies! I thought I replied to that PM! I meant to say I had it bookmarked and yes indeed it looked to be made of win. I actually haven't had a chance yet, but I will.

How are you these days anyway?

  14. Read another 40 or so pages of I, Lucifer and 50 pages of No Way To Say Goodbye.
  15. Hah! A Wrinkle In Time is on that list!
  16. Awesome, thanks for the links! Seeing a lot of titles on there that don't surprise me, but I haven't read most of them anyway so a lot aren't surprising or not surprising me.
  17. Definitely. Hey I wonder is there a list out there anywhere of 'books people wanted to burn' or 'books that were/nearly banned'? Might be worth hunting down and having a looksee!
  18. I like to have all my books on display. My favourites, and most of my TBR pile are displayed by colour on two shelves over my bed - the centerpiece of the room. I also have a two tier wheely unit with my tv and playstation on - that holds all my Philosophy texts and my hardbacks. In the living room, there are three shelves in a corner unit with my review books, my Buffy books, and anything else that was left over after all my other organising.
  19. I can't wait to get my paws on that book. I really need to order a few titles off Amazon.
  20. It sometimes feels like a chore for me but only because I have a very short attention span. I force myself to pick up books, and I'm usually fine once I get going, but if not I'll pick up another book and try. I hate just NOT reading because there's so much I want to get through.
  21. Yeah, there was over a month between my finishing the second book and starting the third. A month is a bit much, but, it did me the world of good coming back fresh to Friedman's writing. Goodnight
  22. What I actually love about Ciani is that Zen is a great character, he really is the every-man, he's every person reading this trilogy and thinking fae is amazing. I also love Karril. He's a recurring character, and he really is awesome. I actually cannot wait to debate the ending of the trilogy with you. It will boggle your mind. Actually, that goes for the second book too. The first book is only an introduction, really. Though it does have it's own greatly disturbing and epic moments leading up to it's finale.
  23. Do not, Giulia. Seriously. It's too awesome to spoil for yourself.
  24. Haha it's great isn't it? Gerald is such a wonderfully complex character, and impossible not to love despite being evil. He's totally loveable isn't he?! You'll get a much greater sense of his personality before the end of the book, and many of Damien's ponderings about him makes for great food for thought. I haven't time to read it properly with you but I'm going to skim it and add any extra thoughts I have tomorrow. What do you think of Senzei and Ciani? I quite like Senzei, though both he and Ciani are a liiiitle two dimensional. I tend to forgive it as they're secondary characters and Damien and Gerald share enough complexity for five people. Ciani kind of irritates me, but she's the only character in the entire trilogy who does so. I love the Forest too.
  25. It was pure chance I saw it! It was mentioned in a book I'm reading with a hilarious quote which I just happened to put on my facebook coz it made me laugh and everybody started saying 'watch it watch it watch it!' It's brilliant. It's a really, really lovely film.
