  1. Thanks everyone! We have her til tomorrow, so I'm coming to terms with it. She's so far gone at this stage that we can all accept we're doing the right thing, so that makes it a bit easier.
  2. Sitting at work waiting til hometime to get the bus to Kerry to see my dog who is being put to sleep this weekend. Might even be done tonight, within an hour of me getting there. Very difficult to sit here knowing that I might be missing her last few hours right now.
  3. Discovered last night that cheap flights (50-80 euro) from Dublin to Oslo in Norway are surprisingly common all year round. Hmmmmmmmmm.

Just so long as you know.. we weren't aware until we booked. :(

You won't have to pay only the travel, and it seems Norway is very expensive.

Ah, yeah. I'm very careful to check all the fine print of every stage, I'm quite obsessive compulsive like that, and cheap airlines like Ryanair are designed to capitalize on anyone who isn't OCD about it.

Sousa - I know, but if I was only going for two nights and stayed in a hostel, it would be pretty cheap.

As it is, I've booked a 4-night trip to Iceland instead through Groupon, hopefully it'll be okay!

  4. I had had mushroom pizzas before, but I usually would go for BBQ chicken pizzas where possible. But no, the sweet onion sauce was just divine!
  5. Did you enjoy the writing and creep factor up to that point?
  6. I liked The Ritual. I didn't like the last third, or how it ended, it all got quite silly and bizzare, but the actual writing of the first two thirds kept me turning pages and the creep factor was high. Then again I find woods scary anyway, so that probably helped terrify me
  7. Really? That's a shame. Her books seem to be very hit or miss! I hated the first one I ever read, you didn't really like this one, and I thought The Darkest Part Of The Forest was brilliant. White Cat was also very good. Never know what you're going to get, with her!
  8. Oh my god that is an adoreable picture. I'll admit, I'm not usually one for dogs any smaller than a small collie but she is GORGEOUS! And so fluffy!
  9. Pressed apple juice
  10. I had a vegetarian pizza and it was DELICIOUS - Spinach, mushrooms, ricotta and emmental cheese with a sweet onion sauce. It was so tasty!
  11. So you agree with both of us?!
  12. Its been many years now since I read it so I don't remember it too well, but I know I loved Death's narrative style, and I became very invested in the characters.
  13. I just had a sandwich featuring ham with 'sea salt and cracked black pepper'. I have to say, it was extremely tasty ham!
  14. Oooh I'll try line up some short reads for it!
  15. I think if you liked Sleepless you'll like Frozen Charlotte too. I certainly do, they're similar in feel, and I can see why they're grouped together in the Red Eye set.
  16. Finished Sleepless yesterday (yep, read it in a day!) It was very very good, I'll review it maybe on my lunchbreak or after work. Started another from that Red Eye horror series, Frozen Charlotte, and.... it's not my thing, but I'm still enjoying it. Which is weird. It's got enough horror tropes presented in creative enough ways to keep my attention, and it's all very strange. Looking forward to seeing how it ends, because as with Sleepless, people took issue with the ending. I'll probably have that finished tonight, no idea what next!
  17. Ahh I'm jealous Gaia (and Anna!) Glad ye had fun I'm feeling very lethargic and meh today. Not really sure why. Just want to go home and eat junk food
  18. Heatwave predicted for end of the week in the UK, though. And it's meant to get milder in Ireland too. Apart from my umbrella breaking in the wind on the way to the shop today, where I bought another umbrella and had that one break on the way home - I'm happy with this weather. It'll be too hot for long enough - I'm enjoying the need for a warm blanket wrapped around me!
  19. I don't necessarily need to be able to relate, but I just felt like anyone liking Lennie was like Edward liking Bella. You might as well like a brick wall. But it is well written, yes, it was an easy book to read and I did like the writing I liked the writing enough to potentially give that new Jandy Nelson one a go... if I can get it cheaply on my Kindle
  20. Tee hee hee I'm reading Sleepless by Lou Morgan now, a recommendation from Michelle. Got it for cheapsies on my Kindle and it's EXACTLY what I was looking for. It's actually reading kind of like a Creepypasta, if anyone here knows what that means. (Internet horror story site.) Really enjoying it, though I've seen reviews knock the ending soooo we'll see!
  21. I thought it was ridiccccculous. If you go into my thread and stick 'Jandy Nelson' in the search box at the top, it should search the thread and bring up the review. The writing was nice, but I found Lennie, Toby and Joe completely unrelatable and unlikely. I am, however, a very harsh critic of YA books, I nearly always find something to complain about! And yes, this is why I'm so excited to see your response, Claire! A lot of people love Jandy Nelson, but you and I often agree quite a bit too so it could go either way!
  22. Glad you enjoyed Elizabeth Is Missing
  23. I'm not sure I've ever seen this thread before, where have I been? Okay, disclaimer: I read a lot of trash, so even my best picks are not without flaws! My 'Best of 2015' are really great reads, but as they're selected from a narrower range, they may or may not be quite as amazing as my Always picks. I'll come back and update this with more! Best of 2015: Off To Be The Wizard - Scott Meyer (Gaming fantasy/humour) The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes - Anna McPartlin (Drama/Fiction) To Rise Again At A Decent Hour - Joshua Ferris (Weird semi-philosophical fiction, definitely also an all-time favourite.) The Martian - Andy Wier (sci-fi) Best of Always: Adult: The Book Thief - Markus Zusak Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell - Susanna Clarke The Magicians - Lev Grossman Vlad - C. C. Humphreys Flowers For Algernon - Daniel Keyes Salem's Lot - Stephen King Perfume - Patrick Suskind The Painted Man - Peter Brett Warm Bodies - Isaac Marion Young Adult: A Monster Calls - Patrick Ness Unwind - Neal Shusterman The Shell House - Linda Newbury Paper Towns - John Green Childrens: The Velveteen Rabbit - Margery Williams
  24. Will be very interested to hear what you make of The Sky Is Everywhere, not sure if you'll recall my review of it was a tad scathing. (I think, it was certainly scathing in my head, not sure how much of that I let out! )
  25. Awww I'm sorry you didn't get on with The Girl On The Train. I loved Rachel, I thought she was brilliantly written, but I can see how she might annoy people.
