  1. I thought the film was better than the book personally but I'm sure others will think differently! Me too! If I read the book after watching the film, then I think the book would be ruined a little.
  2. I was supposed to be giving them up for Lent...
  3. Wow, quite a strong dislike for it then! I didn't think it was that bad. Have you seen you the film?
  4. I have Dead Until Dark on my wishlist. I'll be interested to see what you think! I am yet to buy my first classic novel too and I was also either going to go for one of the above. I was more drawn to Wuthering Heights due to the numerous recommendations but apparently Jane Eyre is a bit lighter going.
  5. Chinese Takeaway
  6. Ah...Edward Cullen :tong:

  7. I guess for most it comes down to the prospective of choice and having that control over your life. Or at least, believing you do, even if you don't. If your life is pre-determined then that concept could be perceived as totally depressing. That lack of choice and inevitable fate. I guess that's why I'm not keen on the concept of determinism.

*Understand why Roxi is a philosophy student* :D

This conversation reminds me of The Time Traveler's Wife. :D

  8. I guess that's what interests me about morality though. The fact that it is created by us as humans. I'm interested in the differences between people and how these morals are developed and applied to their actions. It fascinates me how there can be that underlying understanding in someone of what it means to be 'morally correct' and yet their actions may not reflect that. Or even when they have no concept of morals at all.

The free will idea is definitely interesting too. And yes, loads of studies suggest that free will has little to do with how we turn out. I'm not sure if I'm too fond of that whole deterministic idea!

  9. On Chesil Beach is on my TBR pile . What did you think to it?
  10. See, this sounds so amazing. But I struggle to read outside. I'm not sure, maybe it's the light or the distractions?
  11. Your essay sounds really interesting! Mine's on short term memory and forgetting. Fairly interesting area until it comes to writing about it. :irked: I'm not keen on Cognitive Psychology.

I was quite surprised that this week was the first time dualism had actually being mentioned. I'm like halfway through my second year. I figured it would have been discussed a lot earlier.

My friend is doing Philosophy (and History) at Uni and she likes the whole ethical and moral dilemma side of things. I'm assuming she would enjoy writing your current essay! I think she's hoping to do her dissertation on that area.

  12. I haven't had dinner tonight. Or at least, not food that could be classed as dinner. I need to sort my diet out! :chef: Enjoy yours!

What's your essay on again? I remember reading it somewhere but I've forgotten, sorry! We touched on a little bit of Philosophy the other day, all about dualism and such. I actually understood (most of) it, I was quite proud of myself.

  13. Just popping in to say that my BF is buying me 10 off my wishlist for our anniversary and your book is amongst that 10. :D Quite excited about it! How are you?

  14. *Shudders* I'm the same about the lumps, I hate lumpy Mash. It has to be lump-free!
  15. Oh right! I am a fan of Mash although I don't eat it that much. I smother it in ketchup or gravy, yum.
  16. Awwh, no! So double the crappiness then. You could try having a nice warm bath? That always makes me feel better when I'm ill/in pain. :soaking1:Hope you feel better soon!

I'm ok thanks. Am just spending the evening on here, doing a bit of reading and generally avoiding any Uni work. I'm going to be spending the whole weekend working on an essay so I figured I could have tonight off. :D

  17. I hope you like it here!
  18. Oooh, wow, thank you!!

    Dying? What's up? :friends0:

  19. Mash seems a popular choice tonight! I haven't actually had any dinner tonight, I fell asleep after pigging out on a late lunch and I'm not hungry yet.
  20. Help mee! You know you said you click a button to select all posts as read, where is that? I've got over 2000 unread posts and it's too much! Hope you're ok :)

  21. I love the smell too! I prefer paperbacks, they're easier to hold and cheaper too. Hardbacks hurt my hands as well.
  22. That's the first thing I thought too. I don't think I'd ever get one. But then I can see why some people would, especially with heavy hardbacks!
  23. Haha, I know. After finding your favourite book/series, nothing compares to it!

  24. Wow! At this rate, it'll take me until June to read that many! Well done!
  25. This is exactly why it's my favourite in the series! It's the most exciting one. Like you say, I love the background on both the Cullens and the Quileute tribe. It was also really funny in parts too, which I loved. Great review! I hope you enjoy Breaking Dawn.
