There seem to be a few a'wandering mojos around at the moment, mine included. Linwood Barclay's 'Too Close To Home' arrived in the post today. I may catch my mojo with it (fingers crossed!).

I think there is also an age for some books. I remember being blown away by John Fowles 'The Magus' when I was in my late teens, but when I tried to read it again in my thirties I found it laboured and trying too hard to be clever.

I loved the book, but haven't seen the film, so I couldn't say. Perhaps I should sort out the film at some point and carry out a comparison.

I finished 'The Possession Of Mr. Cave' by Matt Haig tonight. It is such a powerful read I feel quite drained now. It is the story of a father's descent into paternal madness made possible through his intense grief, guilt and tragic childhood. This was a book recommended and reviewed by Weave, and I'm not sure whether to thank her or make her promise to never mention books to me again! Such a read, such a remarkable book. To have read this following 'Therapy' by Sebastian Fitzek, the story of another grief stricken father the impact has been a little overwhelming.

I read Paul Auster's 'New York Trilogy' about ten or fifteen years ago, and you are correct about that perception shift that it generates. I must rummage around and find my copy. It is definitely time for fresh read.
