  12. So pleased you found it! It must have been driving you mad.
  13. A film version could not have contained all the depth and nuance of the book, and so I wasn't expecting that. I felt that something was lost in the translation, mainly because the book is so textured and the act of transfering it to screen obviously meant some layers were lost. Clare's passionate side was somewhat muted, and she was depicted as a little too mumsy for my taste, where I had always seen her as a fiery but grounded person. The two main actors were well cast as Jessi rightly says, and the film focused mostly on the love aspects rather than the intricacies of Henry's 'condition', but a choice well made I felt. It's a film about a complex relationship with feelings over action, but I think worth a viewing.
  14. I needed spice tonight, so it's chicken cooked with potatoes, tomatoes and lots of spices especially coriander. I can smell it now. It's to be served with naan bread. OH is home soon so we will be able to eat. Yum!
  15. I keep getting an image of Miriam Margolyes (Professor Sprout in Harry Potter, amongst many many other roles) at a dinner table, so she wil have to be added to my list.
  16. Murder Must Advertise ~ Dorothy L Sayers
  17. Aside from ComicCon which I think is California based, I can't think of any others. I did find, however this list on Wiki that might be a good starting point for finding what you need.
  18. Little Women ~ Louisa May Alcott
  19. As did mine! I also had 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' arrive. It's a second hand copy, but you would not be able to tell that! My fragile reading mojo had better start to perk up soon. Abby, that is wonderful!
  20. I read this years ago and loved it, but I found when I tried many years later to read it again that my opinion had really changed. Where it had felt taut and smart and engrossing, it later felt self indulgent and a bit clever-clever. I mentioned a little while ago on another therad that I felt that often books have their own time in our lives, where they capture us at a certain stage. Some books perhaps should not be re read, but left to glow in a younger light.
  21. I loved this when I read it years ago. If I remember correctly, it takes a few pages to get into the rhythm of it, but after that it's a really riveting read. I look forward to hearing what you think of it.
  22. I tend to look on the forum first as I feel I will get a review or recommendation that I can rate properly against my own tastes. I will occasionally dip into the Amazon reviews, and will try and take a broad look across the ratings.
