  1. I loved both gormenghast 1 and 2. I found them dark in many bits but also incredibly funny. I`ve never been able to see the royal family the same since. The BBC series was brilliant , mainly because of the casting. I`ve read them three times I think, and will probably re read again. Don`t know about the third book, I didn`t enjoy it at all and have only read it once. I read somewhere Mervyn Peake was ill when writing this one but I may be wrong.
  2. The first two books in the Gormenghast trilogy are brilliant, not so keen on the third one though. I`m reading Fevre Dream, George RR Martin, at the moment while I`m waiting for the release of next Ice and Fire one.
  3. Hi charm yup! hook, line and sinker! I`ve found you all very friendly and am getting so many ideas for my next books. Pity I`m quite a slow reader
  4. Not till 2010 but I love following the build up /hype etc and can`t wait The Hobbit, produced by Peter Jackson. There are casting rumours galore and interviews on www.theonering.net
  5. Google is my friend forum books....... hey presto Bonnie
  6. I`ve read The Lord Of The Rings a dozen or so times, The Hobbit three or four, Gormenghast all three once and first two three times. Pride and Prejudice twice Plague dogs three times Three men in a boat twice, {although I read bits of it now and again} can`t think of any more offhand but I like to re read books I really like. I only keep books if I love them or really like them, the rest get passed on or given to charity shops Bonnie Ha ha! I`m with you on this Frankie, I think my re reading days may be over for a while Bonnie

    Hi!

hello to everyone, I discovered your great forum last night during a bout of insomnia. Have attempted a few posts and am still finding my way about. I`d like to thank you for such nice friendly personal welcomes. I love reading and will give most things a go. I`ve already got a huge TBR list. One good thing about the long dark nights Bonnie
  14. ha ha! couldn`t find the edit button and it was very late last night when i wrote the above post. anyway, I read the deliberate hook on the back page, bought it and took it home without peeking. I really liked this book, very moving and thought provoking but with wee bits of humour to lighten a really dark theme. I`ve passed it on to a couple of my friends since.
  15. I was browsing in Borders ,as you do and they had a section of "Books that will change your life" or something like that and I spotted this book. Then i read the back cover
  16. Loch Lomond, Scotland This is where my username is from.
  17. I used to ride my horse every day but now we are both a bit older I`m a bit of a fairweather rider. I also love the footie and have been follow following, Rangers for about 34 years [aye I`m quite old]
  18. For me Lord of the rings and The Hobbit are on their own. I think it may have something to do with the age you are when you first read them, I was about 14/15 [many moons ago] I`ve just read Roverandom and it is delightful, I `ve known about it for years and thought it would be too childish. It is and I love it I`ve also just finished the Song of fire and Ice series by George R R Martin and really enjoyed them all. Can`t wait for the next so I`ve ordered The Hedge Knight to try. It has good reviews on Amazon so here`s hoping.
  19.
