  1. No.
  2. New month, so a new heap of books reduced to 99p on the Kindle. I've picked up: The Man Who Fell to Earth by Walter Tevis Enola Holmes: The Case of the Missing Marquess by Nancy Springer (not really the target demographic for this one, but I enjoyed the film so I thought I would see what the books are like). Also in the daily deals, I picked up a copy of Richard Dawkins The God Delusion There are also six of the later Bernard Cornwell The Last Kingdom novels all at 99p for the day, as well.
  3. I thought you were! Now I feel old, my first Pratchett was The Colour of Money, in 1987 or 8! (not exactly sure when I started reading them, but it was around the time Sourcery came out).
  4. Think I may do some reading this weekend. (Bet I don't...)
  5. Whilst still well written and very entertaining, I think the later books lack the originality of the earlier ones, and I did get a bit fed up of everything in the main novels being centred on Ankh Morpork.
  6. Ah, Terry; still very much missed, but I think his earlier books are better than his later ones (good though they were as well!). Equal Rites was the book that sealed my love of the Discworld (although the first two were good, I feel they are a little disjoined...). I have an idea Rincewind is in Equal Rites as well; I think there is at least one scene he bumbles through...
  7. I think it's the 8th of the 8th on the Discworld, and it's used in both Equal Rites and again in Sourcery.
  8. Tsk. It's a trade off, though, isn't it - between getting cheaper books from companies who don't pay their way whilst accruing vast profits, or putting some extra money into the hands of smaller businesses who pay the tax they should and also contribute to their local economies. COVID, and the various lockdowns we have had, have made me reappraise who and where I buy items from; I'm certainly leaning towards supporting smaller, local businesses wherever I can.
  9. Stephen Fry! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-dLuu-ErnI
  10. Ok! There once was a horse call Purple...
  11. Also, were this music, it would sound a little bit like the Doctor Who theme.
  12. 16 years ago this very evening...* Seems like a lifetime ago! *With added Graham Norton!
  13. Mwahahahahahahaha! (Still not telling...)
  14. Link to the actual site: https://uk.bookshop.org/ Will take a look!
  15. No! (Never heard of it!)
  16. Pff, quitter! See, perfectly doable!
  17. I think I have a print copy of this somewhere. Or possibly the first book, Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers. No idea where it is though!
  18. I had this problem with some second hand DVDs I bought last year (it was from a firm like Music Magpie, via Amazon Marketplace). Described as "very good condition" the box set I ordered had obviously come from a heavy smoker as the box stank and the inlays were yellowed. Had to give it all a good clean and even then the slip case ended up going in the recycling.
  19. Thought you'd like the challenge!
  20. Hmm... I'm kinda flirting with the truth of the second one now, as I've started re-reading the Rivers of London graphic novels... (I am counting them as something I have read, but I'm adding a (GN) disclaimer.) Yep, so that's one down two to burn through... I do know what my classic novel will be now, though, once I can get back to a physical book shop and buy a copy myself... (you bunch of oiks will just have to wait and see what it is!)
  21. There once was a lad named Tony Had an aversion to matrimony Engagements were fine With their roses and wine But he found women to be quite moany! There once was a squirrel called Orange...
  22. No probs! For anyone who loves small hairy feet, The Hobbit is 99p on the Kindle today.
  23. Yep, you were one of them!
  24. Before The Dark Times, I used to pop into my local second-hand bookshop once every couple of months to see what they had in stock - usually to buy out of print copies of old novels or railway books. Just as the last lockdown started, however, I realised that although the majority of their stock is second-hand, they actually sell quite a lot of new books as well, so I may well use them in future if I want to order anything.
