  1. I haven't actually done much reading lately, someone (I will mention no names, you know who you are :irked: ) has gotten me addicted to Sims Social on Facebook - not sure why I'm actually addicted, I can't get on half the time!

I have had some book activity today though, I received Forever by Maggie Stiefvater in the post from Chaliepud, as a swap for Dark Lover & Lover Eternal by J R Ward. This book swap lark is pretty good! ;)

  2. The Killing Place by Tess Gerritsen

    Synopsis

He watches. Something terrible has happened in the snowbound village of Kingdom Come, Wyoming. Twelve eerily identical houses stand dark and abandoned. The people who lived in them appear to have vanished, seemingly into thin air. He waits. Maura Isles is driving through the area with a group of friends when they find themselves trapped in a snowstorm. They stumble into the abandoned village to take shelter. But their nightmare has only just begun. They Disappear. Days later, Jane Rizzoli flies to Wyoming to search for her missing friend. A crashed vehicle has been found with four badly burned bodies still inside. Can one of the corpses be Maura's? Jane's hunt for the truth leads her to Kingdom Come. Where the person who was watching Maura now lies waiting for her ...

The continuation of the Rizzoli/Isles series sees Tess bring the books back on form. In this installment the plot moved along swiftly ending in a cracking twist which I didn't see coming. Throughout the story the author kept the tension level high, while conveying the desperation and emotions from the characters brilliantly. A real page turner which I couldn't put down, especially during the second half.

If you've enjoyed the rest of this series, this one will not disappoint. If you haven't read this series and are a fan of crime thrillers, I recommend you do!

    9/10

  3. I really want someone else to read White Cat just to get their perspective on it, as it's really hanging around in my head and I'm curious to see what anyone else makes of it!

That just tells me that it must have been good right? That's kinda the testament to a good read, if it stays with you for a while, it must have made an impression ;) Good stuff, it's def going on my wishlist.

  4. I am tempted but I have spent so much recently....I have read quite a few Erica Spindler including Blood Vines not her best IMO a bit weak I prefer some of her earlier ones.

I've only read 3 chapters so it's early days yet, Cause For Alarm has been my favourite so far along with In Silence, which reminded me of Karin Slaughter books.

  5. I bought a load of Kim Harrison books the other day in The Works - 3 for a fiver, I'm missing no 2 though and don't want to start them until I have it. They sound a bit hit and miss from your review but I'm sure I'll read them anyway ;)

White Cat sounds intriguing, something similar to what I've been reading, but in a different way  ...more to add to my wishlist, strike one more for you Claire!

  6. Well at least it's keeping your mojo happy, Charm - look at all these books you're devouring!

It's the most I've read in a year so far, I'm a happy bunny! :D

Ha ha I have just realised its The Killing Place you are reading by Tess Gerritsen although I am assuming you have read it now? I have already read that one a great series I am contemplating getting the new one The Silent Girl....my fingers are hovering over the buy button on Amazon...I am reading far to much at the moment.

Yeah, I finished it yesterday. I so want to get The Silent Girl too, but am gonna wait for it on paperback to match the rest of the series ;) Push that button hun, you know you want to :giggle2: Besides, you can never read too much!

I'm reading Blood Vines by Erica Spindler, have you read any by her?

  7. Tess Gerritsen is on my wishlist...and I will be getting it soon......(very soon)

I have just been reading G A Aiken - Dragin books about 4 of them so far with a 5 being released in Sept, I am pretty sure you will like them, they are quite funny but with a certain amount of adult content......I do like the female characters they are quite feisty...will add onto my book list eventually.

Oh my, these sound interesting! I'll keep an eye out for your book blog update ;) ... and there was me thinking I was doing well striking 7 books off my wishlist ... I really should know better by now

  8. I haven't read the Patricia Briggs books, but they are on my wishlist already thanks to pickle.

I may be lining up a couple of reviews you might like though - one book I finished yesterday and one I've started today which is very promising so far :D

Fortunately, I don't like the crime books, so I won't be tempted by the Tess Gerritsen reviews :P

:o I thought you had read Patricia Briggs, in fact it was both you and pickle I thought of when buying them. Oh well, I'll shall make sure and let you know what I think, especially if they're good ;):giggle:

Shame you don't like crime books, you're missing out on some cracking reads :(

  9. YAY for the Patricia Briggs books! :D They're the ones I've read so far and I loved all three.

I was at the checkout of The Works, getting art stuff for my daughter, when I spied these under a table at the bottom of a huge pile. I had to hold up the queue while I got the shop asstant to climb under the table and rescue them for me, 3 for a fiver! :D Of course when we were leaving I spied the Kim Harrison ones too and had to go back for them ;)

HA!! she can't tempt me this time I have read all of these :P

Pah! I know you have, so has Chesil. :irked: Don't you worry, I haven't done my Tess Gerritsen review yet :D *rubs hands evily*

  10. My book activity today is, as has been my habit the past few days, longing for a kindle.

The selection where I live... SUCKS.

Have you thought of downloading the free kindle app to your pc? You can do so from Amazon ;) Then I think you can transfer all the books you buy, from your pc onto your new kindle when you get one ( I would just check on that).

I have just added 7 new titles on to my TBR pile by Patricia Briggs and Kim Harrison - they're listed on Charm's Choices :)

  11. I accidently .... *ahem* ... added 7 more books to my TBR pile

    Patricia Briggs - Moon Called

    Patricia Briggs - Blood Bound

    Patricia Briggs - Iron Kissed

Kim Harrison - Dead Witch Walking

Kim Harrison - Every Which Way But Dead

Kim Harrison - A Fistful of Charms

Kim Harrison - Where Demons Dare

Now how did that happen I wonder?! :o

  12. I haven't read any of his books as yet but have just ordered a copy of The Bone collecter to get started with. I know this book is also a film but I've not seen it. So it wont be ruined lol.

The Bone Collector is a great introduction to Deaver, hope you enjoy it Knox :D

  13. I'm so sceptical of teeny-boppy vampire series. You make these sound really good, but how do they compare to, say, House of Night? (which to me was like fingernails grating on the chalkboard of my soul...)

I've never read the House of Night books Hyzenthlay, so I can't really say. My daughter has though and thought that other YA books were better.

I do have to say though, these are most definitely NOT teeny-bopper books. There are scenes of a sexual nature in them. If I had to compare them to other writers, I would say a mix of Kelley Armstrong and Sherrilyn Kenyon might be closer. :)

  14. Yeah I think it is on my wishlist already. I won't be rushing out to get it, in fact I may wait for it to come out in paperback, but I know I will get it some time. Shame the series has gone this way after such a fantastic beginning.
