  1. You're welcome. I do have a tendency to get carried away when talking about my furry kids, so I hope I didn't drown you in information!

  8. Hi Rach.at.the.disco! This is a copy of a post I made in the thread where you mentioned purchasing a how to study book.

Would mind sending the stats on this books. I don't think either of us can use private messages yet, but if you wouldn't mind going to my profile and leaving a visitors message with the full name of the book, whether it's hard or soft cover, names of the publisher and author, and possibly even a little blurb about, I would be most grateful! ;)

Oh, and as you are very new like me, I'll tell you how to get to my profile in case you don't know. Just put your cursor under the name of any profile you want to see in one of their posts, and choices show up. One of says "View Public Profile" - click on it and you are take right to their profile!

I am also going to copy this message into your profile in case you don't track threads you posted in.

Also, I liked your profile and a couple of the posts of yours that I saw, so I'm sending you a friend request and hope will accept it. Cheers. :)

  9. Thanks for accept me as a friend! And yes, I feel the same way - people do need to keep informed and go outside their comfort zone in reading, whether it's the paper or a book that tells some ugly truths about our world.

Labs are wonderful. Keiko is my 2nd and I love her to pieces. She's also excessively spoiled, which is fine because I never wanted any of my dogs over the years to be guard dogs, I want them for companionship, love and comfort! Also, I truly do consider my dog and all three of my cats to be my kids! The only kind I ever really wanted to be honest.

Question: Is this your first lab? And are you aware that cancer is very, very common in the Labrador breeds? My last lab had it. A very lethal fast growing one two, but we did have to two large tumours removed in a two year span, and gave her a comfortable and good quality life. Until that is, the cancer suddenly went wild and attached itself to all of her vital organs and she started to suffer. Then we had to put her down. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, but I get comfort knowing that is spread that far in a matter of days so she didn't suffer for long. It was only on her last day of life that any pain affected her. Thank God!

We also discovered a large bump on Keiko's rear right haunch a few months ago. We thought it was maybe an abscess at first because when she plays to rough with the cats they are not the lease bit shy about demonstrating their displeasure. As it turned out though it was a large mass and we have it removed immediately though we did not know yet if it was cancerous to not. Weeks later when the pathology reports came back and said that yes, a very small portion of the tissue was cancerous, but as the vet also excised a large portion of tissue around and underneath the mass, there is a very good chance it will never return, but if it does, they are pretty sure it will be in the same location again and if so, easily removed! So despite the huge cost we really could not afford, Keiko's cancer was much better than the one my last lab, Katie, had.

I'm not telling you to scare you Shelbel, just to give you a heads up in case you didn't know. If you are concerned about how to watch for it, then speak to your vet as they can teach you things to look for and also how and where to look for suspicious lumps. If and I emphasize the IF part, your baby ever does get cancer, if it is caught very early, the chances of a full recovery are good!

Another question: Did you know that Labs are also very highly prone to skin allergies and ear infections? If you have any questions about what to watch for and how to help you dog - for skin allergies, ear infections, or the things you can do to watch for suspicious lumps, feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to share what I know!
