  1. I got my email last night & will be giving away books for the 2nd year in a row as well. I got my first choice last year & this year & this year I will be giving out copies of Alexander McColl Smith's The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency. I'll be going to our local hospital, a local hospice & to the YMCA's Space. Really looking forward to it.

  2. Some interesting thoughts! Personally, I do not necessarily disagree with it - if it is going to be given to young children to read, then maybe the sanitised version is better? As an adult, I would not choose to read a redacted version, I think I'm adult enough to understand that that word is not now acceptable, but is an integral part of the story. The changing of Injun Joe & half breed bother me more, funnily enough.

  3. So there is a better than 50% chance that I will be moving to Scotland in about 3 months time & I am in need of some advice from those of you who are living there already. We'll be moving to the St. Andrews area for my work, but it would seem that finding accommodation is not going to be all that easy in St. Andrews proper. So my questions are: Anyone know Fife very well? Anyone able to tell me how easy it would be to commute from outside of St. Andrews, relying on public transportation & bicycle? Anyone know areas we should avoid or that you would recommend over any others?

  4. Sara, looks like you're doing great on this challenge! (Far better than me with mine, lol). I searched for ages for a book by an Andoran author - didn't find one, so have left it in the hopes that one will be published by the time I get back to it. Good luck with finishing it!

  6. Goodness me, another rave from the grave!! Hello, Ceinwenn, long time no hear - how have you been?

Hi Roland Butter! Yes, it has been a long while. Must do better!

I just ordered The Burning Wire, it never occured to me til I read your message that a Lincoln Rhymes novel could be disappointing!

Don't let me put you off pipread - I enjoyed the book, but well.........lets chat once you have finished reading it!

Ceinwenn, awesome! How cool is that?

    Hi Maureen, How's things?

  7. Deaver is one of my favourite authors, and I genuinely look forward to each of his books.

Mine, too, but I sometimes hate his books, which astounds me! I finished his latest book a couple weeks back & was so disappointed in it! The worst part was that it was a Lincoln Rhyme novel, which I usally love. Wasn't overly fond of The Bodies Left Behind, either.

  8. Is it OK that I went a wee bit wobbly at the knees and felt all girly whilst reading the inscription?

Ceinwenn that is the collest of cool beans!

    I know! Isn't it great!

I haven't told you the best bit, Chrissy! While we were standing in line a guy came around with post-it's & wrote what you wanted the dedication to be. When I told him mine he laughed & said "Oh, he is going to get such a kick out of that!" So, when it was my turn I handed him my book, said hi & waited for him to read the post-it. When he had he roared with laughter, so I told him the story behind the Deaverettes. He thought it was brilliant & when he finished signing my book he held the post-it up & asked me if he could keep it. I said yes, then he put it in his pocket & said "I'm going to frame this when I get home!" How cool is that?!

I also met this lady in line whose name is Maggie Wilson & she's having her 1st book published this month & will be doing a book signing herself in October. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1906873321/ref=nosim/authordatabase

  9. Frankie, it was at a book signing, at Waterstones. He did a talk first - where he talked about the process he goes through when he writes one of his books, then after that (which was over an hour in length) he then went on to sign the books.

  10. Our back yard is all chipped slate pieces, with only 2 tiny beds, so we decided to buy some willow planters & a few pots to plant some veg. This is our first attempt, so we're going pretty small, but we have a willow planter full of potatoes, one with about a million carrots & leeks & we have a couple pots with tomatoes, butternut squash & garlic. So cannot wait for our first potatoe harvest, which should be in the next couple of weeks! Very excited!!!
