  5. NB: I'm using the Goodreads rating system, which goes like this: 1/5: I didn't like it 2/5: It was okay 3/5: I liked it 4/5: I really liked it 5/5: It was amazing NB: I'm going to be more harsh with my rating this year, and I'm going to try and refrain from giving 5/5 to all great books, and reserve the highest rating for books that are great as well as recommendable, books that I will definitely want to re-read in the future and that I want to own a copy of. 7. Nah, that's not it. You talk too little. Spend more time on here
  8. That's great to hear! And you're hear just in time for the New Year and New Reading Logs, too
  9. It's a great novel. Do you know what it's about? Have you read the blurb? With me, I'd bought the book some years ago and didn't know what it was really about and just went in for it, and in my opinion, that was the best way to go. It has one of my all time favorite beginnings of a novel, ever. The way we learn things little by little. It's been a while since I read it, but the book has stayed with me. Would never ever want to watch the movie, I don't want my reading experience to be tainted by it! (No matter if the movie's good or not. It just won't be the same.) Totally looking forward to your thoughts on it
  10. One man's niggles are another man's... not-even-noticed'ables!
  11. Oh my, congratulations on having a boy!! I've always liked the name Ethan I hope your health problems are in the past now, and welcome back
  12. But there's the thing of one not being able to buy 260 books just like that! At least for me, financially... That's why they are on the wishlist, and not on the TBR pile!
  13. You could keep your lists updated in your 2015 thread, and just do a very simple one for 2016. I mean you could have like a few posts for 2016, like 'books acquired in 2016' and TBR, but have all the other challenge lists exist only in the 2015 and previous threads. Although that sounds like having to do more work or possibly getting things muddled... It would need an organized brain. Doesn't sound like a good idea anymore
  14. Maybe none of the titles sound familiar now, just going by the title, but if you started reading the book, it might jolt your memory and do its magic on you and you'd remember you've read it. But then again, King is very good at making everlasting impressions with his writing skills, so it might be that you've read the book only once Good old Stephen King <3 That is too funny Poor Kylie's Mom who had no idea Did she call him that to his face? Probably not, she probably just used that name when talking to your and your brother. But imagine if she'd called him that and he'd r ead the story And liked the nickname, too! (I wonder if your Mom's now tempted to read the story!) Hoping against hope that you'll enjoy Inkdeath! Or that at least it doesn't drag on endlessly. I started reading A Boy Named Christmas by Matt Haig last night in bed. Liked what I read! Didn't manage much, though, before falling asleep (it had been a long, long day).
  15. Bless her heart, she's keeping Matt Haig in business Edit: Giving it a second thought, someone like Matt Haig is perfectly capable of keeping himself in business by turning out great novels Edit: Is it actually churning out and not turning out. My brain is on holiday mode and relaxing so can't be bothered to think things through before posting! Edit: Started the book last night, didn't get very far though before falling asleep. Kris-tee-nan-cow-punky!
  16. Ah yes, now that you told me about it, I do remember you telling us about your attic hunt from a while ago. Wickedly cool! Must've been very very exciting Is it a big attic, are there loads of places and lots of boxes to look in? I'm sure you'll be having lots of fun cleaning it up with your Dad. I'm looking forward to hearing how it went and if you found anything! I hope it'll be a success and you'll find all your missing books! I've just reserved a copy from the library
  17. That is indeed interesting! I was trying to say something but couldn't get it right in writing, so I'll just say this: I know what you mean about having to allow some leeway, not matter how wrong it feels. I mean you don't have to, you can choose to throw the book out the window, but if you do want to read it and finish it and you like it for other things, it's just easier if you keep in mind the time frame of when the book was written.
  18. I remember reading in that other thread where you said you got a few of these! I guess it means you've been a good girl and that Santa is pleased As I said in my previous post, I didn't ask for any books, but I did get two. From someone who knows where to check out my wishlist and read-books and TBR list, to make sure. Santa is computer literate!
  19. Oooh, I would love to have an attic where I knew I had some books stashed! When have you gone there the last time, and did you look for any books at that time? Or was it only later you realized you must have some of them up there? The Velveteen Rabbit was mentioned in Friends and I've been really curious about the book ever since then... I think I should look it up
  20. I got my first ever gift card to a bookshop this year and it's a mighty awesome feeling! It's a great gift, and sometimes just so much more practical than trying to figure out which book to give to a book loving friend who's read a whole heck of a lot of books and who has plenty of them on their TBR pile, too. Good luck with Jodi Picoult, I was just commenting earlier in your thread re: The Pact which you got as a present from Athena Do you know, I've been thinking about possibly going through my wishlist and taking off some titles that do not appeal to me anymore! It just seems a sensible thing to do. I wondered if it would be weird, though... because I've wanted to read the books at one point... But then again I also have TBR books that I bought ages ago and that do not appeal to me as much as they used to... So what would really be the difference in culling one's wishlist. It's an idea! 392?! I'm glad I'm not the only one with a huge wishlist I haven't counted my wishlist titles but I have a feeling it's somewhere close to yours Yes! All hope is gone, with TBR and wishlist
  21. Sometimes it's fun to go over old threads and read the posts and perhaps even bump them up I think the same thing happened to me: when I joined the forum, I read x number of books, and the next year I read more, and the next year I read more. That's what this forum does to you My total of books read has since come down a bit but that's life sometimes. Can't blame the forum for everything Goodreads is a magical place, innit? For some reason I thought Kylie would've read more books by now, too! I somehow always feel like she's finishing a book!! This comment was 11 days ago and you've probably finished a few since then? But we're pretty much at the same ballpark: I just finished my 74th book
  22. That's funny and odd, because I never noticed that they used so many different fonts. Usually I do think I'm observant enough to notice these things, but apparently not with Goodreads Happy to hear you're liking the consistency and the new font
  23. I think you two's lovely friend is a mutual lovely friend of mine....
  24. Was that something that was only available for the laptop/computer users before this update? I've only just started my years as a smartphone user so I haven't yet figured out what's different I'm sorry to hear that I personally like the font but I can imagine how problematic it can be for others in this respect, as you've now demonstrated.
