  1. I'm sorry your reading has slowed down, I hope it pick up soon enough! I had totally forgotten about the thing you mention in the spoilers I'm glad you're enjoying the series! Me, too I'm not sure I'd even noticed it! I'm currently reading Surprise Me. When I started it, I got annoyed and then read the blurb and thought I didn't want to continue reading. But as it's the first non-fiction in English that I've managed to read for more than 20 pages, I thought I'd keep going and I think I did the right thing! I think I've read a little over 100 pages now and I'm really eager to see where the story goes!
  2. I've reached the last season of The Office, I don't want it to end I've also started watching A Game of Thrones. I've now reached season 3.
  3. I forgot: Since my last post I've acquired a few books. Dark Places by Gillian Flynn - a book swap book. I've read the book before, wanted to have it as I will re-read it at some point Jännittääkö? by Kari Aavasto, Pia Kaulio and Sirpa Syrjälä - a book about being anxious and stuff. A charity shop find. Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts - A charity shop find. A few friends have recommended this to me. Quite a heavy novel Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell - A charity shop find. I was so happy to find this!! I loved reading the book a few years ago, I devoured the whole thing. It's not for everyone, and it won't be my favorite novel ever, or even in the top 100, but it was such a great read at the time I hope to enjoy it once again! The Red Notebook by Antoine Laurain - A charity shop find. I've read some positive reviews of this novel and so I had to buy it Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter - A charity shop find. I've borrowed the book from the library a few times but I never managed to read it. Now I can read the book whenever
  4. I've gotten my mojo back! At least for now! After the Manson book, I read Fiona Barton's The Widow in only a few days!! I didn't want to put the book down!! And then I started reading The Cold Song by Linn Ullmann and I only have maybe 60 pages left, and I've really enjoyed this one, too!! I'm so happy!! My initial plan was to read Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine after the Manson book, and I did start it, but I couldn't remember most of what I had read the next day! I did like what I was reading when I was reading it, but the story just didn't stick in my mind. I think it has to do with me having read a huge non-fiction book in English, and I just had to read something in Finnish. I read The Widow in Finnish and I'm reading The Cold Song in Finnish too. I just needed something in my own language for a change. I'm sure I'll be able to get back to English novels any time now Although, I have borrowed the latest Herman Koch book from the library! I do want to read that one, too. (It's in Finnish.)
  5. 10 new bookcases Do you have the space?? I do understand enjoying having a big table for books! I really like the sound of a bookshop's display table at one's own home Yes, maybe indeed it is a control thing. Clever thinking! It might also be about how I had my books at my previous place in a very particular way, there being more sections to the bookcase than I have now. Now there's, in a way, too much room for one genre of books, or too little. The bookcase at my previous place was more sensible! But my bookcases will do. It must also be a case of me not spending any time in the room where I have my books: my bookcases are in my bedroom, and I only go there to sleep. I think if I had a reading chair there I would spend more time there and I would get more accustomed to the way my books are organized these days. Something to think about! We must be two hours ahead of you guys, I think! I remember your boyfriend being a gamer! It's really nice I'm not alone I've now talked my BF into coming to the book fair with me, in October Luckily there's a wine & food fair going on at the same venue, so he'll have more incentive to go, as he likes food Yeah, it's really frustrating and annoying, but I'm trying to work on it Yeah, I might not have been in the right mood. Mood reading is so tricky! It would be easier to be able to just go for any book that comes our way! I hope you will like Wedding Night, even though the plot doesn't sound appealing to you! The sequel would probably change so many things for me about the book! I might have to read it Thanks for the tip, I had no idea there was a sequel! Yep, it was 630 pages long or something like that. It took me ages!!! Thanks! I do like posting pictures of my books and looking at pictures of other people's books It really is interesting to see the different covers different countries have for one book, isn't it! It really was a bargain!! I was so happy to find it! Thanks Andrea!
  6. Same over here! I started wearing my spring coat instead of my winter coat this week, and today it was too warm for my spring coat, too! I only had a t-shirt and a thin cardigan on! And it was warm/hot!
  7. Hello and welcome to the forum!
  8. I'm not trying to be cryptic at all Just watch it when you have the time! I know what you mean: I was all for watching GG from start to finish, but when I got to the end of the 'actual' seasons, I stopped and went to other stuff. Now I've started watching The Office (US) right from the start, which I did not expect to happen! I should go and try to watch the GGs now... but I'm far more keen on watching The Office
  9. Oh Maybe you do need a new bookcase Or maybe we all need another dining room table!! It's mostly the case of the books not being in their place. I used to have all my books in such carefully dedicated spots back when I lived in Joensuu. And even in Espoo! But since then, the books have somehow multiplied and now, I do have enough bookshelves and bookcases, but I just can't make the certain shelf space accommodate the certain genres! And I somehow don't want to go and disturb the books because I feel they are all dusty on top. Oh dear!!! First world problems...
  10. I finished Helter Skelter earlier this evening. Finally!
  11. I have now read 4 books this year, which is the lowest number in I don't know how many years/decades
  12. This is so funny... I've watched Jeeves & Wooster when I was younger, and so I knew/know both of the actors. And yet, the latest I've seen of Laurie is in House, and thus I'd kind of come to remember him to be an American And I was kind of like, how odd for Laurie to be in something Clunes was in, as Laurie is an American... I must have my brain tested! I do wonder if I've seen the episodes Clunes was in. I can't think that I have, but maybe I have! Imagine if the two doctors agreed! If they got each other from the get-go! Edit: Hugh Laurie has such a convincing American accent in my humble opinion. It's so convincing! What an overall amazing talent man he is! Talent man! Man of talent! And a fair sight to the eyes, too!
  13. This made me think of Confess by Colleen Hoover, but I don't think it was that erotic.... Oh yes and this was most likely not based in London, either. Sorry! I hope someone else can help you!!
  14. Don't get me wrong: I did enjoy the episodes!! But of course they are not as dear and darling as the 'real' ones. I would definitely recommend you watch them as I do think you'd enjoy them I did! Maybe that is the case! Surely you'd want to know how certain people got along, and if they got along at all, in the end And other stuff, besides other stuff!
  15. We do love our books, don't we! I miss my books They are there, so I shouldn't miss them, but I feel like I'm not there for them! I've neglected them! My darling books! I've had my mojo going AWOL in the past, but I feel like it's never been AWOL this long. I want it back! I want back my focus! I want to touch and feel and read and devour my books. I feel like they are not in order any more I had them in pretty good order in my last apartment, but since then I've bought loads more and now, even though I have the shelf space, I'm not fully happy with the way they are categorized and shelved. Hmph!
  16. It is not wrong at all Although I must ask. It sounded like you keep your books on your dining room table? As far as I know, surely you must have more books than can fit on any old dining room table, no matter how sturdy it is!!
  17. Very very late to say this to you, poppyshake, but I wish you the most amazing reading year in 2018! I see you've read 34 books already?!? Bloody hell! Guns ablaze! I saw on Goodreads that you'd already read Left of the Bang And you'd given it quite a good rating!! I'm very pleased if you liked it! I've finally finished the Manson book I was reading for months and months. I'll be starting the Eleanor book this weekend! I honestly cannot wait! The Manson book was non-fiction and it took me ages, and the book before that was a re-read, I think, so I'm ever so much looking forward to reading some new fiction!!
  18. Well who could remember every single thing they'd recently bought... Not me! Mind you, I re-watched the GG (for the umpteenth time) in the winter and when I started watching the first 'episode' of the four new ones, I couldn't somehow carry on. It just felt funny and awkward. Sigh! I mean I've watched the episodes, but I haven't been able to watch them again. I just wasn't inspired.
  19. Getting back to old posts, but I recently saw the new Kinsella novel, Surprise Me, was available at the library and I was going to post about it but apparently Lau_Lou was waaaayyyy ahead of me In any case, the book is out now, I mean at least over here in Finland the book is available. I've reserved a copy from the library Lau_Lou, did you thoroughly enjoy the Confessions? Have you read any of the subsequent novels?
  20. That's great new about Penny! I hope she makes a full recovery in no time! Echo, nice to see you again!
  21. The latest is the huge crack in south-western Kenya
  22. I've already decided that my next read will be Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. When I got the novel from poppyshake (thank you!! ), I knew I wanted to read the novel right away. However, it took me such a long time to finish the Charles Manson book. At first I thought I could read Eleanor on the side, but then I figured I'd better finish the Manson book, because if I started something more thrilling, I might never finish the Manson book! I feel like it took me ages to read the book... I mean I'm not complaining, because I did enjoy it, and I'm glad I re-read it! I want to watch some interviews on youtube, and I've already been googling stuff and people from the book, as things must've changed since it was written... But I still feel like it took me a year to finish the book! Apart from Dumplin', I've only been reading non-fiction or re-reads for the past 4 or so months and I am aching for new-to-me fiction!!!
  23. I've already managed to buy some great books this year! Here's the list so far, with pictures: Books acquired in 2018 January 1. I had to buy a copy for myself, too I hope it will make a great re-read!) 8. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman (I reserved a copy of this from the library when I read poppyshake's review of the novel, but then she told me to cancel the reservation as she had somehow found out that a copy was making its way to me as a Birthday present Thank you poppyshake!! ) 9. 24. Okay the pictures are in random order, never mind that Here's more: The last picture is obviously the haul in all its greatness. When I got them all in the last 2-3 months of 2017, I never put them on the shelves because I got many of them in one go and I somehow never managed to put them on the shelves of my bookcases. I just had them lying around in piles on the floor. It was nice looking at them In December I decided to put them all in cardboard boxes, so I could open them and sort of have them as 'new' books for myself, as a 'Christmas present', when I came back to Helsinki and my apartment from my hometown It was fun going through the boxes because I'd deliberately tried to forget which books I'd bought and that plus my bad memory totally worked for my advantage It was like a very bookish Christmas just for me! The books are now in my bookcases but I still need to rearrange some of the shelves.
  25. This next post is shameless gloating! Book boasting! I got all these books last year, and I did make a post about them at the end of last year, but I always meant to add pictures, and now I really really want to post the pictures here, even though the books I bought were last year's hauls and I've catalogued them last year! But I want to post pictures!! I'm shamelessly copy+pasting the post I made last year in my reading log, and then I'll try to edit the post to add the pictures! " What with finally having my own bookcases and space for books, and wanting to relieve some stress by doing a bit of book shopping at secondhand bookshops and charityshops, and going to the annual book fair, I've somehow managed to acquire the following books this month. From a flea market in my part of town (I managed to visit once, only to find out it was closing down ) Julie & Julia by Julie Powell (I loved the movie!) Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain, and Illness by Jon Kabat-Zinn Juoksuhaudantie by Kari Hotakainen (A Finnish author I'm curious about) From Salvation Army 39. The Death of Bees by Lisa O'Donnell I was going to buy a ticket for the whole weekend but I never had the time, and I went there on Thursday as Boss gave me her ticket and told me to go to get her a few things. I wouldn't have had the time to go there yesterday or today. I could go tomorrow but I think I shouldn't All the authors I wanted to see were there on Friday or Saturday so maybe I'll be lazy tomorrow. I've bought 33 books this month! That's at least one shelf worth of books. " (The pictures appear in a funny order!)
