  1. Noooooo! Don't do it! I haven't seen it yet myself, so you must wait for me I also think it's going to be one of those books I'll really like I just need to get reading is all
  2. Ah, glad you noticed I've showered this morning I know you've got a lot going on and don't have so much time to read so I totally understand, I just thought I'd check in on your reading. No pressure hun, you know that Did you like Wuthering Heights? I've been meaning to read it so long, I'm quite ashamed that I haven't already read such a classic like that I'd definitely recommend Rosemary's Baby for anyone who's interested, I think it's quite a compelling read and when I pick it up I never want to put it down. I should be able to finish it soonish.
  3. Well, knowing you're a member of a book forum and like them books as much as the next forum member, the chances are you'll be bringing so many books your arms will be hurting from all the carrying? It's still the early days of March and we didn't exactly agree on a deadline so it's all good Abby, how's the GwtW coming along?
  4. Has anyone started reading Wuthering Heights yet? I haven't, I've been too engrossed in other books lately I am reading Rosemary's Baby though, that's on the Rory list as well. I've never seen the movie so I'm not familiar with the story and I have to say I'm really enjoying this one, it's very creepy and spooky!
  5. I agree I borrowed it from the library, the title really got my attention and I couldn't put it down on the shelf because the book had a penguin It was a great read as well, there's now a sequel to the book I haven't had a chance to read it yet though, but I thought I'd mention it if you're interested.
  6. But you at least would agree with Ned on it being a -something- way. Maybe the two of you will crack the code someday (you guys of course have the word 'way' in your language so it's easier for you to settle on that one, I on the other hand must just trust my linguistic luck ) I drove my good friend's new GF crazy last night, I was requesting he'd play Baha Men and the wimmawe song on Spotify, just for laughs
  7. I haven't read Anthropology myself, but didn't even feel interested because it's just real short stories. Gold on the other hand is a novel, 151 pages in my edition. I loved the simplicity of the story but more than that I loved the characters, they were all so quirky in their own ways and I could very easily read a sequel about them I think you'd benefit from reading tunn300's review on his reading blog, he made some great points about the novel not being full of twists and turns but rather real simple. It's not for everyone but I loved it, I want to read it again and own the book
  8. ~Andrea~, I don't think you'll regret it
  9. I believe so yes! It's still early days, nothing really awful has happened yet (well, apart from ) but there are some minor details that are creeping both me and Rosemary out. This book has definitely the bad vibes, I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying it. It's really quite sensible for me to read it during the sunniest hours of the day
  10. I agree, nothing much really happens but the characters are so quirky and lovable each in their own way that I could've kept on reading for ages The ending was really sad, I didn't see it coming at all! But it was part of the story. I loved the taller Mr Hughes, he had the most amazing tales to tell about alligators and George from Trowbrigde And Mr Puw calling every woman 'Thunderthighs' (I'm not sure about the word, I read the book in Finnish and from the translation I just figured it's probably thunderthighs in English?)
  11. Oh boy Why can't they just write happy dog books? Thanks poppyshake for the heads up.
  12. Happy Birthday! Have the bestest of days :D

  13. It's so funny how different people spell those "lyrics" so differently I'd go "A wimmawe a wimmawe a wimmawe ..."
  14. Excellent choice, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did It was one of my favorite reads last year. Peacefield, I hope you bounce back to knowing what you want to read asap! I picked up Ira Levin's Rosemary's Baby and I'm a bit surprised how much I'm liking it. I've never seen the movie so I'm totally new to the story.
  15. I hope you enjoy that one I was at the library yesterday and picked that up but because it was just short stories I didn't feel like reading it. I went for the Timoleon Vieta Come Home instead, I just hope it's not too much for me because I've heard it's really sad (I don't want to deal with sad dog books).
  16. Just finished Dan Rhodes's Gold, it was brilliant!
  17. Book 24. Gold by Dan Rhodes My first Dan Rhodes novel, recommended by tunn300 (thanks!). Rhodes proves that one can write an excellent novel with a very simple storyline if one adds quirky characters, anecdotes from their past and writes all this down while grinning to themselves. I loved the characters (especially Hughes Puw Hughes) and there were some really delicious incidents. The bit that made me laugh out loud was when An excellent read, Dan Rhodes is definitely someone to watch out for 5/5
  18. You should listen to Dry Kill Logic's "version" of the song, it's called . I hate the Who Let the Dogs Out -song as well, it's so awful
  19. I'm currently reading Gold by Dan Rhodes and I'm absolutely loving it. So I searched his name on the forum and found this thread, and I know I just have to get this book to read soon
  20. I've always been on the fence about Nick Hornby, I think I read Fever Pitch ages ago and didn't really enjoy it. Maybe because I'd seen the movie with Colin Firth and I guess I was expecting his pics to pop out of the book every couple of pages or so But I'll certainly give High Fidelity a try, maybe later today. Started Gold by Dan Rhodes last night in bed, I'm absolutely loving it
  21. Hello Kylar and welcome to the forum
  22. I've just finished The Color Purple by Alice Walker, I haven't yet decided what to read next. I'm thinking The Code of the Woosters, High Fidelity, Gold or Peyton Place.
  23. I know! But there's always something else to read, it's never on the top of my TBR list And my copy of The Surgeon is real ugly, is nasty! But like you said, I'm rather confident that I'll enjoy it (and then curse myself for not having started the series before!) I kinda figured it, the covers of the copies I saw (the first book in the series wasn't there, otherwise I would've borrowed it) were racy themselves. I'm not quite sure if they prove to be too dirty for me, but I'll find out soon enough, and without spending my money on it
  24. Well, to be honest, I haven't read a single Gerritsen novel yet I've just been collecting the books (from charityshops and secondhand bookshops) because I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the series. At the buy 3 for 10e -sale there wasn't that much to choose from and I was pretty desperate to find the third novel to suit my taste. There was actually this man who kept going around the table like I did, he only had one book, and I kept telling myself go on, ask him if he's having hard time finding other great books from the bunch, maybe we could join our forces and get his 1 book and my 2 books as a set of three. But then he bailed So I went for the Gerritsen book I knew I didn't have yet By the way Charm, you'll be happy to know that on Monday I found out that the Black Dagger Brotherhood -series has been bought to the library's collection and I'll be able to check it out
  25. I will, it just might take some time before I get around to reading it what with all the books I already have to read
