  1. Rawr, I've totally forgotten about the things you mentioned in your spoiler But that's only a good thing I think, not to remember every single thing about the book so the re-reading will be a fresher experiment
  2. I agree. And it always gets me emotional, never leaves me cold or untouched
  3. Very much approved by me
  4. It's a real powerful read and it grips you right from the start. I love it how Mr King takes his time to paint the picture right, he's not one to rush things. My absolute favorite character is Tom Cullen,
  5. Sweeeeet! I was escorting BF to the train station and when I was on my way back I noticed that there was a flea market at the market place and I decided to have a look around. I found (!): Stephen King: The Stand - For the First Time the Complete And Uncut Edition. In English!! No more crappy Finnish translation with the poor 'baby doll nightgown' translations What an excellent find! Me well happy.
  6. Hi Abby! After reading the posts in the Rory Gilmore thread I should probably call you evil Abby  No habanero for me thanks! My ass is a lot better now, thank you very much for asking. It was not so much fun yesterday though, I tell you! I had a very funny feeling in the tummy all Friday evening, habanero didn't agree with me at all.

How've you been? I've been a bit busy lately, BF being in town and hogging the computer. :(

  7. Oooh, cushions and quilts, I like your practical thinking Since it's summer, I'm going to bring lots of strawberries and perhaps a little chocolate to dip them in. What would you like to drink? Noooooo Ooshie, don't bring me no Habanero chips, evil Abby is playing with you :eek2: She's referring to my American food tasting day last Friday, when I ate about 100 g of habanero chips and my ass was on fire for the whole next day. Painful!
  8. I finished Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination or whatever it was, read The Sliver by Ira Levin and now I'm re-reading The One hundredth Thing about Caroline by Lois Lowry.
  9. My thoughts exactly! It started off quite nicely (if one excludes the poem ) in the beginning and I thought this could turn into a really pleasant read. Somewhere along the way, though, I felt like I couldn't see where it was all heading. I liked all the fantastic things happening but I'd have liked it to come to a real end and a closure, things having made sense in the end. Ooshie, I thought Alice was incredibly rude at times! Here and there it was said that she'd grown accustomed to weird things happening during that day, but her attitude sometimes proved it otherwise. She'd ask stupid questions and interrupt the animals and be a real pain. Good riddens. I gave the novel 3/5, because it was fairly tolerable and because it was better than I'd thought. Save a seat for me would you? I'm gonna hop back on board and resume my place on the good old 'avoid Alice at any cost' boat and maybe add the words 'on any coast' I really hope you like TPoBaW Bel Canto's on the list as well, but I never remember what it is about?
  10. I love dogs and highly regard their opinions. This video says it all.
  11. Glad you enjoyed Possession, Ooshie Did you find it a tough read, though? I started reading Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination by Helen Fielding.
  12. A friend of mine wrote her thesis on Beryl Bainbridge's The Bottle Factory Outing or something like that. I've never read it but I've always wanted to.
  13. Hehe, I've been also thinking about reading a book on the exercise bike but I think I'd sweat the book till it was damp  I'm not kidding! Maybe I could bring in a tatty version of a novel I don't enjoy. Or wrap it around in see-through plastic bad or something  I hope you manage it, do report back and give me your tips!

  14. Hi Kylie, so nice of you to pop in and say hello :D

You don't usually see me up and around here at this time because I don't get up at 8 AM a lot of the time. The window was open all night for a change and I woke up early because of all the noise they're making at the construction site outside my window (they tore down two rows of apartment buildings and now they're building new ones to replace them). It was good though because I'd hoped I'd wake up early to go to the gym :)

Do you have any special plans for the weekend? I hope you have a good one, and get all the reading done you want :D And I'm glad you're going to pick up the Hornby book, I really really hope you enjoy it :smile2:

  15. Gym was hell today. I'd planned to do one hour of cardio and all the equipment that's to do with arms. I managed to do 15 minutes with the bike, all the arm stuff, then 5 min on the crosstrainer and 5 minutes with the 'armbike' and after that I was knackered. I think it's to do with it being the days before the stupid aunt Flo is coming, last time it was the same thing, I was exhausted without doing anything. I'm so mad BF's told me we all have bad gym days and I should just accept that and he's right... Almost forgot: Ooshie, that's so hilarious with the whey protein shake mix Did you get those 4 kilo buckets Or 1,5 kilo ones? BF has those buckets, they're huge! Have you already tried it, how do you like the chocolate?
  16. I finished Alice in Wonderland last night and have started reading The Difficulty of Being a Dog by Roger Grenier.
  17. Lexie, that's really amazing news, I'm so happy for you! Congrats! Kylie, like you said yourself, it's only a minor setback and now you're back on track
  18. Rock of Love, season 3
  19. Seriously? Poems here, poems there, poetry bloody everywhere! We'll never be the same way again... I should think so, yes! Especially since you and I've been on that same boat all these years, not knowing about each other, probably sitting back to back, quite possibly rowing in different directions. No wonder we were going nowhere with it I forgot to mention in my last post that even if you should not enjoy Alice that much, at least it's a short novel, maybe 110 pages or so, and with pics as well! I have no doubts you should be able to finish it
  20. Ooshie, wow, I thought I was all alone in the 'avoid Alice at any cost' boat Nice to have company Now that we've established there is such a boat, do you think we should try and hate the book, just to keep things as they are? The boat shall be very lonely if we end up loving the novel Have a nice bath with Alice! It started off with a poem and I have to say I was sighing all the way when I read it, but then the actual story started and I was pleasantly surprised!
  21. I sooooo want to watch the movie! Why the sigh? Not any good? I think it sold quite nicely but was never the success PP was, which I think is quite understandably. Controversial first novels are usually always better than the sequels which are maybe written only in the hope that they'd create as much money as the previous title.
  22. I'm no good at reading poetry either, so we'll both find ourselves out of our comfort zone I think it's only a good thing though, there's not much room for learning about new stuff if you only read the things you're comfortable with. That's one of the reasons why I like this RG challenge; I've read so many books that I wouldn't usually read, and I've found some real gems because of it. I don't regret any of the books I've "had" to read for this challenge I hope you enjoy Possession, and Alice in Wonderland too. AiW is one of those novels I feel like I should've read ages ago, it being a classic, but I've always thought it would be a really boring and annoying tale so I've steered clear away from it. I'm rather enjoying it though
  23. Ooshie, it is isn't it? I didn't really expect them to have English copies, and they actually had two! Yay I borrowed it on Tuesday but haven't started it yet because had to finish Peyton Place and have to read Alice in Wonderland for reading circle now. I took a quick look at the book though and it did throw me off a little, it's not a collection of short poems which I might make through, but these are volymous stuff that goes on and on. I'm a bit intimidated by it, I have to admit, but I'll give it a go anyways, after Alice in Wonderland
  24. I really disliked it in the beginning, there were all these characters that were introduced and the scenery was depicted in so many words and it felt like the story'll stay at a really superficial level, but it got better and better. At first I thought I'd have to give it 1/5, then I was pleased to find I could give it at least 2/5, then 3/5, and at the end I couldn't help but give it a 4/5 I'm even contemplating reading the sequels. Something like that, yeah, me thinks. But the novel came first and was published in 1956. According to wikipedia, "Peyton Place sold 60,000 copies within the first ten days of its release and remained on the New York Times best seller list for 59 weeks.". One of the reasons why it became such a success is it's including issues that were really controversial back in the day. There's even graphic sex scenes. I was talking about reading this novel on a another book forum and one of the other members told me that eventhough her father always supported her reading and gave her loads and loads of books to read and never limited her reading in any way, this was actually one of the two books that her father said that she should absolutely not read it. Of course she did though, in secret . I've started reading Alice in Wonderland.
