  1. Glad to see you enjoyed the fifth Dexter all the way! Such an unconventional Dexter, right? I can't wait for the next Dexter either, but it's gonna take at least a year I guess because the fifth one wasn't published that long ago I already feel like re-reading it, it was so excellent and hilarious at times. The bookbag is amazing Pretty!!! I want one

    hello

Hello Kelly and welcome to the forum!
  3. Wow Charm, what an excellent day and excellent haul! You shouldn't have been so embarrassed though, you were only helping the store to get rid of all their books. They were closing the shop, weren't they?! I'm particularly thrilled about the bolded books. Not that I myself enjoyed Wuthering Heights so much, but it's a classic and a sort of a must read at some point during one's life. Well, if you have any other Waters novels, I would recommend reading them Yep I'm a bit terrified about hitting all the bookshops in Sydney... I hope you're enjoying our Dear Dexter, Mexicola! I hear Dissolution is a great novel, so loads of great books coming your way My own book activities: Well most of you already know about my book fair affair. I spent a couple of days cataloguing my books, and watching Kylie catalogue her books. You cannot imagine how much fun it is to go through her library, I could spend so many hours there just looking at the shelves and discovering all the great titles she has. I also finished the fifth Dexter novel last week, it was pure excellence, my favorite Dexter so far! I also started and finished The Sweetheart Season by Karen Joy Fowler and Freaky Friday by Mary Rodgers. Both were great reads, although I have to say I preferred Freaky Friday, there were some incredibly hilarious scenes in the book! I also started reading Jonathan Livingstone Seagull by Richard Bach.
  4. I wasn't surprised at all, because I felt the exact same way!! Which was kind of surprising in itself if you know what I mean I have to tell you, the fifth Dexter was incredible, there were so many unexpected things. It's now officially my favorite Dexter novel Awww, sorry to hear you got the time of the appointment mixed up hun :friends0:At least I hope you remembered to go to the hospital the next day. And I hope everything's alright with you. Congratulations Stephanie! And I'm really glad to hear you're enjoying the Dexter novel so much, yay!! Haha, I think it only appropriate that of all the people you should win the Kelley Armstrong prize, knowing you're a big fan. Congratulations! Happy to hear you're enjoying the latest Langdon, I was pretty scared that no one likes it, not having heard any positive feedback on the novel before. I hope you liked it all the way to the end? One of the most hilarious parts in it was when Priceless You're welcome! I really hope you enjoy them I definitely recommend it. I didn't get the book for Kylie only because it's a Finnish novel, but because it's an excellent novel.
  5. I know!! I went to the book fair thinking, I really have to restrain myself, and also hoping that there wouldn't be those kinds of books that I really like to read but I was wrong! I'm particularly surprised about how many Jeffery Deavers I could find. Mind you, I originally had a lot more books to buy but I went through a really hardcore eliminating process and had to give up like 50 books. But I still managed to buy like 50 books or so!! Did I miss something?? You stay away from the Coffee House for one quick second and you're totally in the dark of all the great happenings. Well, first off I'm going to read a lot of those book while I'm here. I already started and finished The Sweetheart Season and Freaky Friday, and can now happily pass the Freaky Friday, which is a Rory Gilmore book, to Kylie. Did you know, when Kylie and I both added up our book fair books to the list of our bought/received book this year, we both ended up at 254 books? That was so funny!! Until Kylie realised she'd forgotten to add her pottery book on the list. And then she got a Roald Dahl book in the mail on Wednesday. And then I gave her the Freaky Friday book. Now she's ahead of me by 3 books and I don't think she's liking it too much Second, if my bags are too heavy I'm going to leave some of the books behind, like Frankenstein which I've already read but bought because I wanted it in my collection. And some others. Third, Kylie and I are already looking into the expenses of shipping a box full of books to Finland It would take 3 months for the books to arrive but I'm staying here for 2 months so I'd only be home for a month til they would already arrive. I'm also thinking I just have to pay for the excess kilos on my luggage, the weight limit is 20 kilos and I think I can pack 10 more kilos and pay for them, anything over 30 kilos and they'll refuse to take the lungage on board. Kylie was happy to hear your comments on those books, she really loves Cloudstreet as well. Haha! See, I knew something like this might come up and that's why I bought the biggest suitcase I could find at the stores while I was in Finland I might have to leave some clothes behind though I was really happy to find so many Deavers, I think my Lincoln Rhyme collection should be nearly perfect now! You're right about the great minds of course I think Univerze mentioned Poppy Z. Brite in the most disturbing novels thread and after that I've been really keen on finding her novels. I think the novel I was most after was Exquisite Corpse but I couldn't find that so happily settled with what I got. Thanks Lucy. Believe you me, I was really surprised at how many Murakamis I managed to find. I know a lot of people were after them I think, and so was Kylie. I have no idea how I managed to find 6!
  6. (wow, somebody ate the rest of my message!) get up and out, I didn't hear you at all! The birdies woke me up at 5 AM but then I slept right till 8 AM. The house seems empty without you :)

  9. Mac: If we ever get to arranging a Deaverettes meeting, I'm expecting to see you wearing a tutu and holding pom-poms Sara: Thanks for the tip, it's greatly appreciated! Here follows the Book Fair haul of frankie. I'll start off with a couple of other book hauls of some sort first, though. Auel: The Clan of the Cave Bear Richard Bach: Jonathan Livingstone Seagull Kim Edwards: The Memory Keeper's Daughter William Gibson: Neuromancer (1001) Mark Haddon: A Spot of Bother Jodi Picoult: Vanishing Acts Philip Pullman: Northern Lights Thomas Pynchon: Vineland (1001) Jean Rhys: Wide Sargasso Sea And here are the 5 novels I bought at a couple of secondhand bookshops on our way to Canberra and the Book Fair: Jeffery Deaver: Death of a Blue Movie Star Jasper Fforde: The Big Over Easy Mo Hayder: The Treatment Lynda LaPlante: Trial and Retribution lll Peter Robinson: Gallows View I'll post a list of my purchases on the actual Book Fair, soonish.
  10. This is my last chance to go all heavy so it's time to listen to some Rammstein.
  11. Well now you have finally made your friend happy! I hope your Mum enjoys it. Maybe she'll join the forum and will be hooked up with the Rory challenge in no time
  12. ^ Happy to hear you liked it so much! It was indeed a great novel and I'm really embarrassed that it took me so long to actually pick up the novel and read it.
  13. Well, I guess I have to investigate for myself. It would be grand news, though!
  14. Happy watching Abby! Remember to come back here sometimes as well I have no idea about the name of the store. And I call myself a fan??! Unforgivable. I liked the question though, it would be nice to have a GG trivia question out there every now and then! Glad to hear you found Pop Tarts! I'm not totally sure about the Danish, but I do have some idea of what it might be. We have them in Finland as well and call them Danish pastries. I'll google for a pic. Hold on a second... Edit: Okay I found a pic of a Danish, and for some weird coincidence it was on a page "Food in Finland". Third picture from top!
  15. Looks like you've been having some good times with good books lately, Paula! Happy reading
  16. Hi Ooshie, how are you? Haven't chatted with you in ages Thank you for your reviews on Picture Perfect by Jodi Picoult and I Am Legend. I think the latter was already on my wishlist but it was a good thing to be reminded of it, and I added the former to my wishlist. Seeing that you've read a lot of Picoult novels, do you have any particular favorites that you would recommend to someone who has never read anything by Picoult? I'm rather curious about her novels. And there's one on the Rory List, but the blurb of that particular novel didn't sound so intriguing. BTW: I was taking back all the library books I'd borrowed and noticed the Walt Whitman book and remembered that we were supposed to start reading it at some point this summer I'd totally forgotten about it?! Did you read it?
  17. I prefer the houses in your version too. They somehow remind me of Denmark, the way they are right next to each other and all in different colours. The houses in my cover seems painted when you first look at it, but if you look more closely I think it's actually a photograph. Not the sky but the houses. Impressive! Thanks for the review on A Lifetime Burning, Lucy! I hadn't heard of Linda Gillard before I joined BCF, but I've heard so many great things about her novels on here that I've been meaning to look into her novels for a long time now. Eventhough I like chick-lit to a certain degree, it's great to discover these kinds of novels that are in a way chick-litish but have more depth to them and are more polished and refined writingstyle-wise. So I suppose you'd recommend A Lifetime Burning as the first novel to read by Linda Gillard? I've read the blurbs/synopsis of all of her novels but can't decide which to read first.
  18. What's the electricity going off for? I hope it wasn't a long stretch. I didn't get any reading done in the train yesterday, I was too nervous to read! I've been to the train to Lappeenranta a hundred times but I guess it was different this time because I had all my luggages with me and it was the first lag of the trip for me. I'm beginning to lose the plot, I had to skim read some parts of the novel last night in bed. Do you already know who the admirer is? Exciting stuff!!!

    Hello

Hello Alex and welcome to the forum!
  22. I take it you're enjoying the fifth Dexter then, aye? Excellent! How far are you? I've been struggling to find time to read the novel, today I'll be able to do 2 hours of reading on the train, that's luxury!
  23. Kylie, I finally booked the flights. The one arriving at Sydney is rubbish, in Sydney on 20 at 06.35 already. Shite! I know that's way too early but there were no great alternatives. I can wait at the airport though if you can't make it so early, I'll be just happy to look around and explore. I don't want to put you off!!

  24. Awww, Murphy is awesome! Seems like a happy-go-lucky kinda fella
  25. Oooh, awesome! I'm jealous I'm still reading Dexter Is Delicious. I've been sick since this Monday and I haven't felt like reading at all, but I have managed to read 10-20 pages every day before going to sleep. The books getting better and better, I'm just annoyed that the timing is so wrong for the two latest Dexter novels. But no worries, I'm feeling much better and I think I'm able to do a lot more reading during the weekend. That is, if I can quit watching Big Brother live feed
