  1. i strongly felt that the Golden Compass film didn't do the book any justice what so ever. I enjoyed the book alot, but found the film was really lacking the same magic! I suppose the characters really weren't as i'd imagined they would be.
  2. oooh i adored the Faraway tree books too! I also loved 'The Worst Witch' books. My mum always used to compare me to Mildred always getting into trouble etc. I also read 'Sophie's Tom' over and over until the pages were all wrinkled and battered. come to think of it, i also loved the books we read together as a class in Primary school, like Roald Dahl and Paul Jennings.
  3. oh god, it was when I was absolutely tiny! I can't remember the name of it, but it was a kid's book with a 'scary' character in, whose catch-phrase was: 'good moannning' ah, don't you just love kids books?
  4. i'm a huge fan of horror and as a devoted fan I always felt that I should atleast attempt to read some of King's work (since he has such a huge following) yet, each time i picked up one of his works in the library I found myself bored after the first few pages!!!
  5. i'm addicted to horror short stories. I have this odd habit (don't judge!) of getting up in the middle of the night and reading one from the collection i so happen to have at the time (i borrow alot from the library) whilst eating a frozen kitkat chunky
  6. i have to admit, i'm not a huge fan. I was in Waterstone's book shop recently and thought i'd have a flip through some of her works and i just found that i couldn't get into it.
  7. I occasionally pick up the free ones in the library. I've had 'nice' ones in the past E.G a metal cat one, a shimmery butterfly one, but i always seem to lose mine! i know this is probably alot of peoples pet hate, but i've started just turning down the edge of the page.
  8. i've re-read a few. Whenever i'm feeling low I seem to dig out my old favourites for comfort...i admit the majority of these are designed for younger readers but i also loved 'I am Legend' so much that i re-read that and there's been a couple of Shakespeare texts
  9. I'm awful for doing this...i always have several books on the go and soon lose interest in atleast one of them so end up leaving them for weeks and weeks. Some I never actually get around to reading, others i'll flick through if i'm bored, but once i've lost interest i very rarely finish them!
  10. I was reading in the car yesterday actually...it was an hour and a half- long journey...i ended up feeling dizzy and quite nauseous after that, but I so badly wanted to keep reading! on the journey back I felt so light headed though that I just fell asleep!
  11. I usually judge books by their covers, but i've read a few that have been really good and had the most boring covers ever! When i was younger I read a book called 'the golden hour' which had a really old, ochre-type colour cover and i really enjoyed it! and also, I am legend has a really plain cover (pretty much just block green with a bit of red) and it's one of my favourite books =)
  12. The golden compass.i found the book ten times better than the film.the film dissapointed me greatly.
  13. hey, thanks for sending the books! i got them today.I've started 'catch me when I fall' and so far I quite like it =)

    thanks again

  14. yeah, the film and book are so different from each other. literarisch, i understand what you mean. The way he brings across isolation and desperation are quite intense. You should definately try it again though (if you feel up for it) it's a good easy read =)
  15. yeah, the scene with the balloon was the beginning chapter/s
  16. Title: I am Legend Author: Richard Matheson published: 1954/1995 my views: I completely loved this book! I wasn't actually made aware that it was a book until a few months back after the film was released. I adored the film, but reading the book was equally as interesting and possibly even more fun. I was expecting it to be almost identical to the film, although it actually only seems to have the same underlying base-story. It's definately worth a read if you're in to sci-fi/horror and is a really good light read. It conatins only around 300 pages. I couldn't put this book down. It was one which just gripped my attention and refused to let go. I wouldn't usually go for books which contained vampires as I've never got on with them, but this book handles them in such a different non run-of-the-mill way that I found it really enjoyable. Plot: Robert Neville is supposedly the last man on earth. A bacteria had caused the illness and death of the majority of the poulation, including Nevilles wife and child. But unless burnt, the dead don't stay dead for long. They soon turn into light hating vampires. Although, there's 2 types of vampires: the dead and the semi-living. Neville kills off both kinds, thinking he is doing his bit to rid the world of this evil. We see his emotions rise and fall throughout and witness his high points aswell as his low points. He decides to do some research in an attempt to find a cure for this illness the bacteria has caused, yet never manages to find one. He eventually gets killed by a new society-the semi dead have found a way to live relatively normally with the use of a tablet. They feel threatened by the last true, living man on earth and so, heis executed. marks out of ten: 9.5 best points: Personally, i loved the creepier parts, such as when his dead wife (who he refused to burn) appears on his doorstep. I also find the part with the dog really heart wrenching. worst points: It's wrong to say 'worst' points, since I found it all good, but there were a few not so good parts.I didn't like the way in which his past friend was presented-it was a little confusing since he was supposed to be one of the only half dead and only seemed capable of limited speech, yet when one of the half dead attempts to befriend Neville she is 100% capable of speech and normal human movement. If everyone was either dead or half dead how did they develop a pill? perhaps that's over analysing, but it did make me wonder if he'd thought it through! I hope you all give it a go and have a read. In my opinion it's well worth it =)
  17. i'm good too thanks =) glad your day was ok! i've just been busy this past week, but I'm not complaining, it keeps me occupied!

  20. me too! i was so happy when i got the tickets. Oh well, I suppose atleast if they sell on ebay they wouldn't have gone completely to waste. If no one wants them by Monday I think I'm going to give them to someone I know =)
  21. I have 2 tickets for the itunes music festival on the 16th July. alphabeat and CSS are playing in the KOKO in London. I really badly want to go, but can't make it sadly =( so I'm selling the tickets on ebay. If you're interested, or you know anyone who would be interested (niece, nephew, son, daughter, friend etc) then go to ebay and type in: 'itunes festival tickets alphabeat CSS' or feel free to message me =) is anyone else here going?
  22. I was hoping to make a pepper salad or something but my plans changed and I ended up going over my parents house and having veg, mashed potato and veggie beef with vegetable gravy =)
  23. I could never bin a book! If i'm definately done with it, I give it to charity or to my partner of friends. I don't mind swapping them on here either =) And in answer to the other question, I think there is a certain something about purchasing a book so that it's 'your own' rather than just borrowing them from a friend or the library. =)
  24. 'Romancing the ordinary' by Sarah Ban Breathnach has to be one of the most inspirational books I have read. I was so excited when I first found it in waterstones almost a year ago. I read snippets of it but left it for a while. Now I've started reading it again, i wonder why I ever put it down! It cheered me up no end! It's well worth a read or atleast a glance-over.
  25. thanks for the messages guys =D
