  1. Lol Chrissy! Glad you are managing to get through a book! I have been to the library twice this week and taken out: Harrison: Old School Ties Harrison: Michaelmas Tribute Weir: Innocent Traitor Sands: Love Bite Chevalier: Remarkable Creatures Nevo: World Cup Wishes I have been working on my blog too, please go take a look! But more importantly: I have just finished The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath and have now moved on to True Believer by Nicholas Sparks
  2. I've only read two off that list I don't know off the top of my head what my top 20 are but I don't think I agree with his list! Some there I wouldn't even bother picking up
  3. I'm not feeling well this morning so I think I'll just do fun reading instead of working on my dissertation. I have started listening to What Katy Did at School by Susan Coolidge and I'm hoping to finish The Bell Jar today
  4. Oddly, I ran out of tablets but apart from feeling a bit light-headed and spaced out I was fine! I haven't had a panic attack in nearly 2 weeks and not having the medication didn't cause me to have any! Thanks for asking! How are you?

Lol your last message made me laugh! I hope you are not drunk right now - 'tis far too early!

I'm good thanks, how are you doing?

  6. I'm on page 150 of The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. It is an interesting read.
  7. Synopsis from Librivox: What Katy Did is a children
  8. I plan to spend the morning reading Dead Sight by Glenn Chandler
  9. Yesterday I finished listening Candide by Voltaire. I will always remember it but I think that is because it is one of the strangest books I have ever come across. I'm not sure I enjoyed it, I was just gripped by the fact it was so bizarre. Today I finished Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen. This is the third book by her I have read, and although I didn't read it as fast as I read the other two I loved this one just as much. I am hoping to read all her books, I really enjoy her work
  10. That is a good idea Abby! You have some good books there to read Good luck!
  11. You always put up books I want to read! This one, and The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart I really want to read! I'm glad you enjoyed your re-read
  12. I've been reading In Southern Waters by Ian Marchant for my dissertation. It is OK so far, although there has been some very strong language which I haven't liked.
  13. I have just finished Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen and I'm about to start Telling Tales by Alan Bennett
  14. Synopsis (from Goodreads) I had been wanting to read this for a long time, and when I came across it in the library I quickly snatched it off the shelf. And boy am I glad I did! The story is narrated by Balram - a boy from the country, as he works his way up the social rankings in India. Yet there is a twist: he is a murderer, and that is how he managed to achieve his current status. I really enjoyed this book. I liked how the book was set out. It was narrated by Balram in the form of a series of letters. In these letters he explains his life in India. He explains politics and draws sharp comparisons between the poor and rich in his country. I found this a fascinating read - really informative, and I guess quite shocking. The book reminded me of both Q & A by Vikas Swarup and My Father's Notebook by Kader Abdolah. Although these three books are set in different Middle Eastern countries all of them highlight the differences in the way of life between the upper and working classes; and I enjoyed all three books. They have ignited an interest in me for political novels and novels set in poorer countries. I can't say I liked Balram but he was an interesting narrator and he told an interesting story. He is ambitious and gets what he wants - even if murder is his only way forward, and he does not care about others. But I was fascinated by him and his life, and that made the story worth reading. I really enjoyed this and happily recommend it to others. This is a political novel, not my usual genre, but a novel I really enjoyed.
