  1. If you like the cycling theme then try It's Not About the Tapas by Polly Evans.
  2. Yes, books are expensive. Unfortunately where I am they're also in Spanish too. Luckily I get my supply renewed whenever people come out to visit!
  3. Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah. True story from Sierra Leone. Horrific for illustrating just what humans are capable of doing to eachother (with the added twist that these are children committing attrocities).
  4. I must say I'm only now realising how lucky i was to be living in a place like Brighton where secondhand bookshops and charity shops provided a wealthy source of cheap books. Used to love going in and never knowing what I'd find. I'm in Spain now and so reliant on Amazon and the good will of friends. The Spanish really don't seem to read much. In the town I'm in (30,000 population), there's one bookshop which is basically a stationers with five shelves of books!!!
  5. from straight out of real life - Confessions of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah is horrific for illustrating just what humans are capable of doing to eachother.
  6. There's a book coming out this year that I was very fortunate to read a draft of (long story, but my sister's quite well connected!!). It's called Sewerside Chronicles by Tim Lay and is going to be a cult classic.
  7. I often read two books at the same time. perfect combination for me is one non, one fiction. the most i had on the go at one time was five, a couple of christmases back, but that required a whole new years resolution to clear the backlog!
  8. would reccommend this book too. one of those books you're still thinking about long after you've read
  9. definitely go with the kite runner. don quixote is a classic but it takes a real labour of love to read! (i had it on my bedside table for over a year and fou the first half very heavy going!!)
  10. imagine waking up on christmas morning to find that in your stocking!
  11. Having sat my way through the horrendous film version of beowulf recently i wish to god this piece of literature had been left alone!
  12. Hi, I'm Kate. Have just joined. Was looking for some inspiration because it's been a while since I've read anything (a common disorder as I've discovered on this forum!). I'm 32, from Brighton, by way of devon and a bit of travelling all over the place. Now living in Spain and working as a TEFl teacher.
  13. hi there, first time on this forum! I signed up as I too have been going through the reading dolldrums of late and needed a bit of inspiration. I think I might've found it!
