  1. It depends on where in Scotland you go -some accents are better than others. Glasgow is the worst - no one was wasn't born there can understand a word ! When you do come to England though, I only live half an hour from Gatwick, so you would be welcome to drop in for a cup of tea or something ...

  2. I remember that cruise well - it was beautiful, but we did it the other way around as I recall, travelling along the coast of Finland - Turku and Tampere and then sailing to North Germany. I was only in Finland a few days, but it was long enough to leave a lasting impression. Would love to go back some day and explore the lakes further north. You will love England though !

  3. I love lovely memories of my own time in Finland when I was a student - saunas, eating berries, long walks, etc etc. I love the relaxed, outdoor lifestyle. Definately one of my favourite countries.

  4. My list would include Stevie Wonder Bill Clinton Prince Charles Charlie Chaplin Richard Dawkins Eckhart Tolle Michael J Strazynski JK Rowling Mother Meera Helen Keller Oprah Winfrey Mary Magdalene Queen Elizabeth I Marie Curie Should be an interesting evening !
  5. homemade mushroom stroganoff made with freshly picked wild mushrooms - my favourite passtime at this time of year - yum !
  6. Nothing to do with the Swedish flag I am afeaid, just something I saw on clipart and liked ! I see it as symbolising two aspects of dark and light.

  7. Hope you're feeling better - love the new avatar !

  8. There is no right and wrong with these things. It simply is what it is. We are all human and it is our differences that make us so. No one has ever done anything that nasty to someone I love - a few people maybe giving my partner funny looks when he goes out en femme - I just stare back and that soon makes them look away, so I don't honestly know how I would react. I always think that forgiveness is not for them anyway, it's for you - as by holding on to stuff you are the only one who really suffers. After all, thinking like this and being bitter doesn't change things. The only thing that does that is changing your own mind. Eckhart Tolle was right when he said that the mind is a disease (or words to that effect).
  9. Looking forward to that.
  10. veggie kebabs with rice and corn cobs
  11. I didn't know you were a theologian Icecream ! Would love to know more about that if you feel like talking.
  12. As someone whose own book was reviewed as the opposite to The God Delusion (I was never sure whether this was a compliment or not!), I have a large collection of religious themed books. Most of them are non fiction although I do have some fiction as well - about the Magdalene laudries for example and that sort of thing. My non fiction books vary in their scope quite a bit - when I was writing my own book I felt it was important to use information from both academic and esoteric texts, to give a more balanced view. I utlised sources then from both camps - the Conversations with God books for example, and Gnostic texts (The Nag Hammadi texts and the Lost Books of Eden) and of course The Bible (I have a Greek Hebrew study guide which proved invaluable (no, I don't speak Greek or Hebrew!). I also used some of the material from the Alpha course, which I attended as part of my own research. As far as Dawkins though is concerned, although I found myself agreeing with quite a lot of what he had to say, the one point that I do fundamentally disagree with him on is the assumption that you have to be religious to believe in God. You don't - but you do have to spiritual. There is a very important distinction here - imo.
  13. I loved this book as a teenager - my Dad had a whole collection of Thomas Hardy books, all leather bound, which he inherited from his own Dad and this was far and away my favourite. Wish I knew what had happened to them. The book was a lot darker though as I recall, although this dramatisation was good too. The actual rape scene was very understated I thought, and atmospheric with the mist and everything and that Alec character a right If I came across a man like that I will kick him in the but women back then didn;t have the means or rights to be able to do this unfortunately. How times change. Looking forward to episode number 2.
  14. I would expect so because of the cost of postage. Sometimes these things include Ireland as well though.
  15. I don't know about it being the Swedish flag - I found it on clipart and for me it respresents the duality of light and dark.

  16. spaghetti bolognaise
  17. Thanks for being my friend - we have at least two things in common - our love of Stevie (and of course books !)

  19. Absolutely brilliant - the 60's stuff in particular was fab as always. I was hoarse by the end of the evening! The only song I would have liked to have heard was Loves in need of Love Today, apart from that all my favourites were there.

  20. Concert was great, but missed the last train due to the crush so we had to ring my sister in law to get us home. Coran had been feeling unwell all evening, and he asked her to take him to hospital. The doctors thought he may have had a mild heart attack. Thankfully it was a bad panic attack, but didn't get home until 11.30 am.

  21. Glad you're feeling better - I have just recorded a radio interview for a station in Liverpool. This time tomorrow I will be at the 02 centre watching my musical hero !

  22. Another self publisher I presume? I see from The Bookseller today that the company I work for plan to start selling the Sony Reader, as soon as the Waterstones 2 week excluisve period is up. Since I get staff discount, I may be tempted to buy one. Might prefer the EZPC though or whatever its called, which we also sell, and is
  23. Hope you are settling in to the new home, and the back is feeling better ! Didn't realise your boyfriend was such a hunk - lucky girl !

  24. Hope you enjoy the show - I am going to tomorrow and can't wait. It has been 12 years since I last saw him - far too long !

  25. Just wanted to say a big thank for your support, especially when you are feeling so ****. Seems like a lot of people are going through it at the moment, will hopefully get some news tomorrow though, when the property people call round.
