What a good question! I'd have said I'm a skimmer, but then I thought about how long it normally takes me to finish a book.
So I reckon I skim .... very slowly

Welcome to the Forum, Blueberry.

No, I love beetroot, but just not with my breakfast
. (Blue Fish Cafe, Darling Harbour, among others...)
I was just intrigued as to how this humble vegetable had managed to inveigle itself into the Australian psyche.

You'll have to go a long way to beat John Kettley Is A Weatherman by A Tribe Of Toffs!
******* Hell It's Fred Titmus - Half Man Half Biscuit.
I win, I think:tong:

Yep, that's the one!!

Me too. Not a book I'd have thought of reading - I never liked the look of Curious Incident - but I picked it up after running out of reading on holiday last year and thoroughly enjoyed it (and squirmed, like everyone else, when I got to that bit:lol:). I'd certainly recommend it.

Now I'm reading Gillian Tendall's "The House By The Thames".
Good book, that one - Bankside is an area I know well, but even so this book really gave me a new slant on the area. Enjoy.

Question I've been meaning to ask, Kylie. What is it with Aussies and beetroot?
"Big Aussie Breakfast" - egg, bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, beetroot, toast ... etc etc
"Big Aussie Burger" - prime beef quarter pounder served in a lightly toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, pickle, slice of beetroot, mayonnaise ... etc etc
???

It's really hard to decide cos there's quite a few but some of them for now:
Aint' No Mountain High / Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
Tears Dry On Their Own / Amy Winehouse
Ever noticed the similarity? I think Ms Winehouse has been listening to more than a little bit of Motown.

Interesting review - could be a book I'd like to read.
Just as a matter of interest - it's implicit when you write a review that you're expressing your views about it. Why did you think anyone would attack you for it?

Welcome to the Forum, Bellatrix.

Could have sworn I'd posted this already, but can't see it anywhere. Anyway - I'm a couple of chapters into The Coroner's Lunch, and it looks like it's going to be a great read. Good recommendation, Louise!

I'm a couple of chapters into The Coroner's Lunch, Louise - one of your earlier recommendations, I seem to recall. It's great fun - I started last week on holiday, 'cos I needed someting easy and fun to read, and I'll pick it up again now I'm back.
Good call!!

In the spirit of Kenny's question, I will limit myself to one, impossible though that is!
The Isley Brothers' This Old Heart Of Mine is the one that does it for me. Whenever I hear those opening bars, I just go weak at the knees.

Much to my shame, Phoenix, I've only ever been to Germany once, and I was only about three years old then! I can remember (or maybe I just picked the idea up from photographs) being on a "beach" of thick black mud, which I imagine was the banks of the Elbe. But I really would like to go back some time soon.
And take my advice - next time you come to England, you really don't want to bother about going up North. There's really not anything worth going there for - it's much, much nicer down South:tong:
OK - I think I know what's going to happen now, so I'm off:lol:

Elana Stone! What a good singer! Do you have her album In The Garden of Wild Things?

Hi, Phoenix, and welcome to the Forum. My mother was born in Altona.

Squash is great fun, Kenny. The beauty of it is that, however bad you may be at it (and I speak from experience:lol:), it can still give you a good workout.

I have a copy of Arianna Franklin's The Death Maze. Not normally my cup of tea, but it was a publisher's freebie, so I'll give it a go.

I was up in London yesterday and stumbled across In The Naked City, a great compilation of 60s soul based around the theme of New York - Jackie Wilson, the Drifters and a host of lesser-known artistes. Sort of thing Jules would enjoy, I'm guessing - great stuff!

Welcome back Louise. Good holiday?
I've got Death of a Murderer knocking around somewhere (but it's probably not holiday material for me!)
Reading? What a waste of time...

Pretty sure it's against the law not to drink alcohol, Kylie. The XXXX and Miscellaneous Provisions Act of 1932 applies
