  1. Sharks...are you a Shire boy?

No, I'm a South Londoner - I just like the shirt! And as I said yesterday....

Got to be Melbourne for me, by 12.... But

    what do I know

Er ..I'll get me coat :welcome2::lol::D:lol:

  2. Isn't the general consensus though that you go for whoever is playing Manly? Afterall, no-one likes Manly. However now Melbourne is there, I think the caveat, unless they're from another state gets added. Thus, by default, you have to go for Manly! :D

Who are you going for, Roland? I'll have to be a traitor to my state and go for Melbourne because Manly is my least favourite team. Not that I particularly like Melbourne either!

Got to be Melbourne for me, by 12. Yep, nobody likes Manly (or the Bulldogs!), and even though Melbourne are a couple of key players down, they've still got match winners everywhere - Inglis, Folau and the great Billy Slater.

Above all, they've got Mick Crocker - I reckon if you opened him up, you'd find the word "Winner" stamped right through him.

But what do I know - I support the Sharks :irked:

  3. Hi, Knitnat, and welcome to the Forum.

It had better stop raining - it's the Grand Final tomorrow, and I'm going to be there (in spirit, and through the miracle of cable TV:lol:)

  4. Welcome to the Forum, Pipread. There are certainly a whole load of crime fiction fans here, so I'm sure you'll find it a great source of ideas and discussion.

(Thought: what's the collective noun for a load of crime fans? "A conspiracy of..." or "A murder of...", maybe?

  5. I did enjoy New Orleans Noir, even though it was depressing for me. It, like it's siblings, Brooklyn Noir, Berlin Noir, et als is a series of short stories about different sections of the City and take on the personality of same.

New Orleans Noir is further divided by pre and post Hurricane Katrina, so doubly poignant. They are all crime stories, I wouldn't go so far as to call them mysteries, they arn't, and most don't have a "happy ending" and some have no real conclusion, you just know it continues. I'm very ambivilant about the book. I'd recommend it for someone that would like to know New Olreans nitty-gritty.

That sounds interesting, pontalba. New Orleans is a place that has fascinated me, from way back when I first became interested in its music and realised that it's very different from pretty much any other city in the US.

I've read Paris Noir (fairly unimpressed, to be honest) and I've got Wall Street Noir knocking around somewhere, but New Orleans Noir is one I'll definitely look out for.

  6. A brave effort by the (ahem) Scottish tennis player Andy Murray. Realistically, beating Nadal and Federer on consecutive days was always going to be a big ask, but he'll be a better player for the experience, that's for sure. Won't be too long before he wins a big one, I'd think.

And at least he isn't "Tiger" Tim - but don't get me started on that!

  7. I'm by no means a film buff, but my list would include:

The Cat In The Hat - my daughter "forced" me to watch this a few years back. I know it's a children's film, but it would insult the intelligence of a two year old (my daughter loved it, by the way ...)

The English Patient - must be the slowest film ever. I started watching it, then went on a fortnight's holiday, and when I got back still nothing had happened ...

The Talented Mr Ripley - " a stylish psychological thriller", apparently. I'm afraid it by-passed me - I was bored rigid!

And more or less anything with Robin Williams in - I just can't stand the gurning. Should have stuck to Mork and Mindy
