  1. Noll, that's such good news about Penny! And congrats on the new job! :clapping:

It's a lovely day here today, but I have a wicked headache, and BF and I have been out and about the last two days, so we're just feeling tired today. But we have the window open and we're enjoying the spring air!

I had a very productive appraisal today and got some good pointers from my own Manager on how to conduct them so am feeling a lot more confident. We have seta  few goals for the next few months which are more than achievable. I went to see the dentist on the way home and she was so impressed with how I am looking after my teeth that I don't have to go back until next year. :) I have also been thinking about where to go for another holiday in October - I find you need to book well ahead to get the best deals, and with such a small team at work as well you have to get your dates booked before anyone else does. I was thinking about 3 different places - Morocco, Crete or Budapest, all very different but have settled on Budapest. Most of the flights to the parts of Morocco and Crete that I was interested in cease at the end of October and because of that the prices are sky high, but I can get a flight to Budapest with BA for £60 as I have loads of Avios saved up, so I have gone ahead and booked a lovely apartment for 5 nights. I will book the flights later on tonight I expect.

I'm so glad your appraisal went well and that you got some good pointers. And Budapest sounds amazing...I love hearing about your travels. :D

I got an update on the new job, and it looks like nothing will be finalized until next week, which is kind of a bummer. BF and I have been shopping like crazy, with me buying new clothes and shoes, and him buying new clothes, electronics (computer accessories and a used PS3), and beer. We have so many online orders shipping to us...two from Amazon, two from Old Navy, and one from Nordstrom. It's going to be a pain tracking all those packages! We live in a secure apartment building, so packages don't always make their way to us.

Noll, I'm glad Penny is doing better!

  3. I am at work, struggling to keep my eyes open. I didn't get to sleep until 3:00 AM last night and woke up at 7:00. It's only 10:45 AM right now, and I'm sooooo tired! I'm going to lunch at 12:30, getting my favorite chicken tacos, so hopefully that will help wake me up. :Zzzz:

I am nervous for a different reason - I have my own appraisal next week, and have to do them for all 3 of my own staff as well by the end of the month. I am not nervous about mine, as I know I do a great job, but I am nervous about conducting them as I haven't done them before and haven't had any training. I have printed out all the guidelines to help me so will have to try and have a read in the next few days.

Maybe sit down with Coran and run through them a few times for practice. I think that's what I did the first time I ever had to give a review (or a write-up, which is even scarier!).

Thanks for the god wishes, everyone! I haven't heard back yet, but my recruiter is on top of it and is sending me encouraging messages. I'm feeling better, so I'm back at work, catching up on emails.

  5. Sorry for being MIA the past week or so! I've been dealing with headaches, job interviews, and Easter with my family. I took yesterday and today off work, mostly because of a migraine, but also because I'm nervously waiting to hear if I got one of the jobs I interviewed for. The recruiter I'm working with thinks I've got it, but I'm bracing myself for a "no".

Easter Sunday, we went over to my parents' house where the family got together for dinner. My younger brother had to work (dealing cards at a casino, no less...he called it "Dealin' cards for Jesus"), so it was just me and BF, my older brother and his wife, and my parents. My nephew was also missing, as he's on a vacation with his other grandma, touring Washington D.C. and New York City. It was nice to see the people who were there, though, as BF and I have been laying low the past few months and not attending family dinners.

I am glad that you all are enjoying his visit. May we send you Trump and will you please return Obama to us.

Yes, please give Obama back to us!

Tomorrow is the national March For Our Lives event, with dozens of marches across America against gun violence. I won't personally be marching (I don't have the physical stamina), but I'll be following the events as the day goes on. Love these kids!

  7. I've been so stressed and exhausted lately. After a lot of thought, I've decided to look for a different job. Everything came to a head last week when my boss sat me down and basically told me I need to stop being a introvert because it's not working for him. I've already been struggling with the atmosphere and how demanding and brusque my boss is. So, last week, I started applying for jobs and was contacted by a recruiter within a few days, had a meeting with her yesterday, and now I have a possible interview next week. When I told her what's been happening at my current job, she was super validating and observed that my boss is never going to find an assistant that pleases him, that I'm being disrespected, and that there's nothing wrong with wanting my job to fit me as a person.

  8. Top 5 children's books to re-read as an adult:

    1. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle

    2. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

    3. The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare

    4. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson

    5. Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery

  9. Today, the news was all about the thousands of students who walked out of their classes to protest gun violence in schools. Some schools tried to prevent them, but kids still walked out of their classrooms, even just to kneel silently in the hallways. It was so moving, and I'm so proud of them!

  10. @Talisman, I'm glad Coran's doing well! And have fun on your work outing!

I'm actually going on a work outing tomorrow evening. Our studio is going to a puzzle room, where we'll have to solve puzzles to escape the room. Most of us have never done anything like this before, so it should be interesting! What sucks is that there's no dinner served, and we'll be there from 5:30 until probably 8:00, so I'm going to be starving! :icon_eek:

In fact, I'm starving now. Time to order pizza, I think!

  11. Trump dominates the news, as is typical: ridiculous tariffs, paying off a woman with whom he had an affair, possibly meeting with Kim Jong Un (but probably not), promising to do something for gun control, then switching to blaming video games for violence, trying to cover up his collusion with the Russians, and just generally screwing everything up. :negative:

In my state, Washington, our governor signed a net neutrality law, our attorney general is suing Trump's administration over about a million different things, the Seattle Seahawks released Richard Sherman (WHY???? :censored::censored:), and there was a huge meteor that exploded off the coast and shook all these coastal town and freaked everyone out.
