He is one of my favourite authors and I have enjoyed all books that I've read especially Sole Survivor. He has a way of making me think the impossible just could be possible!! Sounds like The Taking will be next on my list. Bought Brother Odd recently but haven't got round to it yet....think it might be "one too many" though!
I read this book when it first came out and I felt that it didn't go into much detail. As a fan of Gordon Ramsey to me the book skimmed over most topics and didn't give you an insight into the man himself.
I absolutely loved it!!! I finished it in two days (the only good thing with being off work was all the reading I managed to do)!
I thought Snape was going against Voldemort and Dumbledore had asked him to kill him but I couldn't work out why.
I had hoped that Sirius would be able to come back and hadn't really died.
Loved the epilogue and knowing what happened to most of the characters.
Quite sad that it was the last book in the series but will have to look forward to the films now!
I think it depends on the book. Sometimes the author is very descriptive and that helps and others don't go into a lot of detail, maybe they do that on purpose because they want you to imagine characters for yourself. I do find it quite difficult though.
Picked a copy up from the library last night and the cover is different to all the ones mentioned. It's a naked lady on a bed but half sat, half lying and her limbs are strategically positioned. Quite a racy cover for a library version!
I'll let you know if it's worth a visit (maybe an overnighter as it's quite a way) as I've arranged to go this Saturday and it has free entry, I was surprised by that!
Have you ever visisted the Pit Rivers Museum in Oxford? It's somewhere I'd love to go to but never seem to get there, I did try once, got lost and ended up coming home again!
I always cry at To Hear a Nightingale by Phillipa Gregory! It's just one of those books that gets to me! I don't think I've cried at any others I've read though.
I've just bought the Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox but have yet to start it but sounds like a good one. By the sounds of it I should keep my eyes peeled for others by the same author.
I can usually tell within the first 10 pages whether I'm going to like a book and with the exception of one (Dean Koontz's False Memory, which turned out to be a good read) I have never tried to read a book a second time. Maybe I give up to quickly and should persevere!
I avoid Maeve Binchy...just can't seem to get into her books. Never read any sci-fi books either but maybe with some recommendations from this site I will try different styles.
Thanks for all the welcome messages.
The username is because I started calling my bro Lijah (can't for the life of me remember why now) and although I am older I am most definitely littler so hence LittleLijah!!!!
Looking forward to reading reviews and recommendations and choosing books I wouldn't normally read!
Hi from another newbie!
I've never read any of the Anne series but do remember watching the series on tv when I was younger.
I think my list of books to read is going to go through the roof, it's already far too long!
