  1. Being able to read is like escaping into your own world or the world of the characters in the story. It is also educational, mind expanding. I would be totally lost without a book to read. Colin, I also read The Times and do the puzzles therein. Its a "good read" paper. I dont always agree with what some of the columnists say and get quite rattled at times. Keep meaning to write and express my opinion, but I never do. Too busy reading and posting on here:lol:
  2. I think my collection is pretty eclectic. I have fiction (thrillers, mysteries, historical, classical) but also reference book (wildlife, birds, garden books, history and art), auto/biographies too, atlases (all kinds), dictionaries (all kinds) and the Bible (of course).
  3. No!!! Is that right Colin? Its one of my favourites too.
  4. I thoroughly enjoyed it, I thought Mr Bennett was wonderful and Mr Darcy. I think it helps if you have read the book though, it makes it more amusing. Janet I wonder if we will get to know what Elizabeth is up to in London?
  5. Welcome to the forum Bellatrix, hope you enjoy this site.
  6. I would love to visit BC and the Rockies!! We were in Ontario last year which I have visited before and I have also visited Nova Scotia.

  7. After everyone telling me how great this book was, I found it didnt do a thing for me. I think the story could have been told differently. I didnt like it being left up in the air. Started "No Time for Goodbye" now. Again, surprised at the hype, but I havent got very far in. What I DO NOT like is the overuse of the F word, used in general conversation. OK I've used it but only when very angry and frustrated at something. Hope this doesnt carry on otherwise it will spoil the story for me. Its one of the reasons I wont read Martina Cole books. Anyway, we will see.
  8. When Cynthia woke up, it was so quiet in the house, she thought it must be Saturday. No Time for Goodbye
  9. You are very welcome. I really love Canada, whereabouts do you live? I wasnt sure if you meant the post I made in response to your post about female circumcision, but anyway, thanks for wanting my friendship which I duly give with pleasure.

  10. One I like at the moment, is the one where a woman is having something done to her car and her son is behaving like an idiot. When she asks the man what else he does, he does an hypnotic thing on the boy who then fall into a trance.
  11. I think you are a very brave person to have put this post on here and I salute you. I am afraid that this barbaric practice is carried out here in the UK, but of course not openly and not under NHS care. I believe there are Muslim doctors who are practising in the UK who carry out this procedure secretly. The other way Muslim girls are subjected to this procedure is I believe by sending them back to their parents' homeland to have it done. There was an interesting programme on Channel 4 Dispatches tonight, describing what is being taught in mosques in the UK, although it didn't include female circumcision.
  12. Ah, once again a visitor from Canada! I love your country Wordsgood. Welcome to the forum, I hope you have fun here

  13. Finished The Book of Air and Shadows by Michael Gruber. It took a while, but in the end I enjoyed this book, review to follow if I can work one out!!! Have now moved on to The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell. Have reached page 171 and am so far non-plussed by all the fuss surrounding this book. Dont quite get that. Still will plod on and maybe it will suddenly "move" me. Wont take me long to finish it anyway.
