Madcow, your reading mojo sounds exactly like mine has been for the last few weeks. I blame the silly season. I'm also hoping that the new year will bring on a 'fresh start' for me.
-
Great review, TammyRich. This book has been on my TBR pile for a while now, and I've heard plenty of good things about it. I do like John Grisham's books; hopefully I'll get around to reading it soon.
-
Which Ian McEwan did you read?
Atonement. It's the only McEwan book I've read, but I'm sure it won't be the last. It has gotten some very mixed reviews, with a lot of people absolutely hating it, but I thought it was fantastic.

My best reads of the year would have to be (excluding re-reads):
The Swarm - Frank Schatzing
The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox - Maggie O'Farrell
After You'd Gone - Maggie O'Farrell
Atonement - Ian McEwen
I haven't had that many disappointments, though there have been a lot of books that I've had to leave unfinished. I don't feel like I've read enough 'really good books' this year, though. Hopefully things will look up, next year.

Hi, Bright_eyes! to the forum!
-
Yup - I've sent you a friend request. Hope I've done it right.
It's so much fun, listing my books!
Just finished pretty much all my books - 348 of them. Phew! I haven't done my e-books, and I have one box of Reader's Digest books in the cellar to go, but I'm pretty much done. Only took me about 5 hours...and I haven't added any tags or reviews or anything yet.
Updated my sig, with my LibraryThing link.
Edited again: Have just gone through and added all of you as friends (hope I haven't missed anyone - if I have, it's totally unintentional). Hope that's ok; if not, just reject me.
-
Brilliant, thanks HandD!

I've just joined and am in the process of entering all my books. My username is angerball, if anyone wants to look me up or 'friend' me.
If I want to separate the books I own, from the ones I have read but don't own (ie. borrowed), do I do that using tags?
-
Never heard of it, but I'm quite intrigued by the title, so I've looked it up on Amazon. It sounds like it would be quite a good read, so I'm adding it to my TBR pile.
-
I'm quite pleased with this years books, though I do wish I managed to read more of them. I did discover a couple of great authors though: namely Maggie O'Farrell and Ian McEwen.

I was having problems reading for the last few days, but last night I forced myself to get going with Relentless. Next thing I know it's just after 2am and I've read over 200 pages. I think it's good to go for an easy, fast-paced read to get back into it. Worked for me, anyway!

Wow - gorgeous!

Dorito's Corn Chips with guacamole dip.

Flippin' heck - YES! In fact, right now I have so many books here to get through that I'm finding it hard to read anything. I'm worst when I finish a book, and have to choose another one to get started on. :motz:Even though I have so many in front of me to read, I still can't resist going to the library to borrow some more. It's silly, but I end up feeling quite guilty and stressed over it. I just can't stop finding new books to read, and I end up neglecting the ones I own.

Instant meal time: Beef curry with rice.

You chose some good books there, Michelle; especially Out and Pillars of the Earth.

Hi there, Kate! to the forum.
-
^I had to return it to the library today; I couldn't renew it, as someone else had reserved it. I didn't get very far, maybe the first 80 pages or so.... :thud:I'll have to reborrow it at a later date.
-
Thanks for the links, Gyre; I will check them out later. I was looking at I Am Legend on IMDB, trying to suss out the ending, but no luck. I hear so many mixed views. I do hope they stick to the book ending, otherwise it would kind of defeat the purpose of the book and the title.
Adam, it's a super short read - I read it in a day.

Hello, Finrod! to the forum. I'm about to start reading The Road - it's the first McCarthy book I've tried.
-
Yum - sounds delicious. I'll have to try this sometime, as I love risotto! I've only ever made it once, and it was very, very basic - with just cheese, stock, and wine. All I remember was getting fed up with having to constantly stand there and stir it.
-
Welcome, purple95!
As for TBR lists, I've pretty much given up keeping one, except for books I'm absolutely desperate to read - those I keep a list of on my Palm. There are so many books I'd love to read, that to list them all would take forever, as I'd constantly be updating it.
-
I'll be starting this one tomorrow; I'll be sure to comment on it when I've finished.
-
Hope you read this real soon. x
I just finished it tonight. Are either of those movies worth watching? I can't see how a movie could follow the book closely, unless it's quite short.
I liked it; I'd heard plenty about it, and the movie coming out got me interested in it. I thought the chapter about
the dog was so sad, though. I liked the idea of the dog being his companion, and was shocked when it died.

Not heard of any of them, except for A Thousand Splendid Suns.
A Quiet Belief in Angels has gotten all 5 star reviews, though I can't see the synopsis.
I like the sound of Notes from an Exhibition, Blood River and Mister Pip.
A lot of them seem to have a war theme.
