  2. I'm not traditional at all, but my partner's family is somewhat traditional. Not so much for Easter, but Xmas - they do the whole turkey dinner thing.
  3. I just finished this book, and...Wow, what an incredible novel! Before I started it, I'd read some reviews on Amazon; a lot of people gave this book negative reviews, complaining that it wasn't another Out (which is also fantastic, BTW). I don't think it's fair to compare the two, as they are quite different. The book is set in modern time Japan, and follows the events leading up to the murders of two prostitutes (who had attended the same elite high school years earlier). The murder is peripheral to the story, and I think is merely used to tie all the characters together by one common storyline. The first half of the book is narrated by the sister of one of the prostitutes, and focuses on the interaction between these characters during their high school years (pretty emotionally brutal stuff). Then the book switches to present time, and narration is taken over by the two prostitutes, in the form of their journals. It's a very emotionally heavy going book, but it had me hooked from day one. If you are more into psychological character studies, rather than a story full of twists and turns and lots of action, then I recommend this book. All the characters are pretty despicable, and it
  4. ^Ditto! We had a stinking hot summer last year, but it was over so fast.
  5. I found it via Google. Bless Google!
  6. I'm not very good either. I usually just stick to reasonably easy meals that I can't stuff up (simple stirfries, egg baps, or a pasta dish). My mum is a fantastic cook; she can make any kind of meal, out of any ingredients she has on hand. She's very creative - she knows what goes with what. The two times I have tried to be creative, my partner has rejected my meals. :) Can't say I blame him, though. I'm trying to do better though, by using those packet mixes (ie. the ones that tell you on the back what ingredients to use, and how to prepare it, and all you have to do is add the contents of the packet.) Still....it's definitely a learning experience. Hey, beans on toast is scrummy!
  7. Oooh, I just borrowed The Five People You Meet In Heaven from the library today. I'd been eyeing it for a while. angerball
