  6. I wonder if you can help me.... You know when you go to shut down your computer and sometimes there are updates being installed and it says do not turn of your computer, update 1of 1 being installed? Well on Friday night I turned on my computer and it said: Configuring updates Stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete, Do not turn off your computer. This message had been there for about 2 hours when I decided to go to bed and leave it running. When I got up in the morning my normal log in page was there and the message gone. However when I turned my computer on on Sunday the same message was there and it finally cleared itself after 7 and a half hours and returned to my log in page. And then today it was there again and once again cleared itself after a few hours. It also keeps shutting itself down during this message and I can't access my computer whilst this message is on the screen. Do you have any ideas how to get rid of it and use my computer please? It's driving me mad!! I have changed my updates to manual and have emailed Microsoft but no reply yet.... Oh and nearly forgot, i'm using Vista. Thanks.

  23. Finished Neverwhere this evening. You can see what I thought of it in the Reading Circle thread. I fancied a historical read so I have chosen The Favoured Child - Phillippa Gregory. Blurb from the back of the book The Wideacre Estate is bankrupt. The villagers are living in poverty and Wideacre Hall is a smoke-blackened ruin. But in the Dower House two children are being riased in protectedinnocence. Equal claimants to the inheritance of Wideacre, rivals for the love of the village, they are tied by a swcret childhood betrothal but forbidden to marry. Only one can be the favoured child. Only one can inherit the magical understanding between the land and the Lacey family that can make the Sussex village grow green again. Only one can be Beatrice Lacey's true heir. This book sounds familiar, I hope I haven't read it before!
  24. Finished this just now! 1- Who was your favourite character and why? I don't think I had a favourite character, I liked them all for their own individual ways. 2- Was there a particular part you enjoyed/disliked more than the rest? Like Gyre, I didn't like the parts with Mr Croup and Mr Vandemar, they were scary and very brutal. 3- Was this the first book you've read in this genre/by this author, has it encouraged you to read more? This was the first book I have read by Neil Gaiman and certainly I will look for more of his work now. 4- Were there any parts/ideas you struggled with? No not at all. 5- Overall, was reading the book an enjoyable experience? Yes it was. Having travelled on the underground many many times it was interesting to read about another life living under London.
