  1. That's a huge improvement. Good for you! Even before you posted the stats, I had noticed that you seem to be buying fewer books, and you're making good use of the library as well. You should be proud of yourself!
  2. Great news, Marie!
  3. That's interesting. Thanks for the info! I wish we had such subsidies here to encourage people to go 'green' (although I'm sure I wouldn't be able to afford it even then!) Heh. Well, I'm sure you'll have those remaining spaces filled in no time! ETA: The red colour is gorgeous!
  4. Aww, that's so nice! I'm so pleased that James is doing well for himself. I'd love to go there and meet him and Bob and all of the other kitties. There'll be a cat cafe opening in Sydney hopefully sometime this year. I'll be a visitor there for sure.
  5. The Tesla S...isn't that a mega expensive car? I'd be worried driving it too. Are you running out of bookshelf space yet?
  6. Read it now! Read it now! Read it now!
  7. Great selection, Kay! That's a lovely haul, Claire. I have Incorrigible Children on my TBR pile. I only recently found out about those new black editions from Penguin. I haven't seen any 'in real life' yet. Happy reading!
  8. That's pretty immature! You'd think a check out person would be used to it. I don't mind who serves me when I'm buying them, but I hate having to use them in public toilets. They seem to make the packaging as noisy as they possibly can! Why?! I know it's nothing to be embarrassed about, but like someone else said, it's my business! I don't need everyone to know when it's that exact time of month.
  9. Yes, maybe have it on both weekends for this month if someone can't do it on the normal weekend. I think it would be generally better to stick to the timetable we already agreed to, otherwise it will get too confusing.
  10. Overall, probably an 8/10. It was very, very good.
  11. I finished Son by Lois Lowry. It was quite good, and a fitting end to the series, I thought. I'll be continuing on with The Humans now.
  12. Yes, most of his books take place in Zamonia. I read Rumo last year (and yes, it's the same Rumo). It was good, but nowhere near as good as Bluebear, I thought. I don't believe the books have to be read in any particular order. The second book in the Zamonia series, Hansel and Gretel, hasn't even been translated into English for some reason. I'm particularly looking forward to the next one in the series, which is called The City of Dreaming Books. Moers has since published another book directly related to TCoDB, called The Labyrinth of Dreaming Books, and a third one will be published in Germany late this year, The Castle of Dreaming Books.
  13. Claire, maybe you need a few dozen/hundred of these.
  14. Ah, the ol' 'cutting off one's nose to spite one's face'. That's my Mum's favourite and most often used saying (I guess that means I do a lot of cutting if I've heard it so many times ). I have the same cover as you, Steve, but I must admit that I kind of like it. The bizarreness is appealing, even if I don't necessarily like the way the character at the front (Carter, I presume) has been drawn. This book has been on my TBR pile for so long that I've long since forgotten why, when or where I bought it, so I'm glad that it is indeed a very good read. I've nearly dumped it several times, but something kept me holding me back. It has kind of become a thorn in my side (although not as bad as it is for Kay, I suspect!) I really should just get on with it. It'll be a huge relief once I finally read it.
  15. Oh my goodness...so many books! I hope you enjoy them all.
  16. You're hard to please, Steve!
  17. What was ridiculous about it? Or are you just talking about the zombieness of the show compared to Wolf Hall?
  18. It's up to you, boss! Do you want to start a separate thread?
  19. Yes, it was very strangely done. Son is the fourth book.
  20. I watched the movie the other day. It was terrible. I'll try not to let it put me off reading the book though. I completely understand why readers might have trouble with it. I'm up to part 2 in The Humans, and I've been reading Son as well. Both are going well!
  21. I've moved your posts to the existing thread. Also, I've moved the thread to General Book Discussions; I never understood what it was doing in General Chat. That's a lovely room, Alexander! It looks very cosy. I love the colour on the wall and the wooden floorboards as well.
  22. There are various free versions available at Project Gutenberg as well.
  23. Ooh, sounds good, Raven! That's one of my favourite sci-fi movies. Very underrated, I think.
