  1. the name of the episode was "They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They?". Guess where that title comes from? :D I wont say too much about the book, but a dance marathon is involved and that's how the Gilmore Girls came to borrow the title ;)

Ohhh, I didn't realise that's why the book was on the list! Thanks for clearing that up. I should have realised when I read the blurb and saw it was about a dance marathon. I might bump it nearer the top of my TBR pile as it's nice and short. :D

  2. Good for you, Sara! It always feels so good to get through the books you've had for a while, doesn't it? I can imagine that is especially the case with books such as Moby Dick and World Without End, both of which are dauntingly long! :D

  3. Strangely, this is something I planned to start doing this year - LOL!

That's a good idea, particularly now that you have Xander. Sometimes I try to remember what presents I received when I was little, but I can't really remember. It would have been great if Mum had kept a list!

    Another 5 about me:

    1. I'm very bendy - if I wanted to I could easily suck my own toes (not that I want to, but I could!).

It's so weird that you wrote that. Putting my toe in my mouth was a little party trick of mine when I was a kid (sad, I know; I've never been very talented!). About 20 minutes ago I was inspecting the bottom of my foot and couldn't resist trying to put my toe in my mouth. To my horror I couldn't even get close! The last time I tried (probably a year or two ago) I could just get it, but practically broke a leg trying to do it. I'm a little older and wiser now, so I didn't try very hard. :smile2: I'm considering trying this little exercise on a more regular basis so I can try and become more flexible. :D

  4. I thought I had seen you mention this book somewhere, Giulia. :smile2: I'll be sure to let you know what the content is like. I have read some reviews that indicate the main character is a naughty fellow, so I wouldn't be surprised!

The copy I received has a completely cracked spine, like it has already been read. Broken spines are an absolute pet hate of mine! I know they can't be avoided sometimes, particularly with quite long books, but I would have been able to read this easily without breaking the spine. :D They have also slipped a bookmark into the book though. I wonder if that is meant to pacify me? (It does, just a tiny bit.)

  5. 4. I don't consider myself OCD but I do have one ritual I follow. When I have to get up for work at 5am (three times a week), I set my alarms (2) when I get into bed and then I read for a while. But then I have to switch my alarms back off and on again - if I don't do that then I can't sleep until I eventually do.

I do a similar sort of thing with my alarm. Even though it is permanently set (I don't have to reset it each night), I switch the radio on each night before I go to bed and then turn it off. I guess it's to make sure the radio will be loud enough to wake me, but I never touch the volume so it would never be a problem!

    5. I have a hard-backed book that I write down all the Christmas gifts I buy. I've been keeping it since 1977 so it is its 32nd year of usage. :smile2: It's one thing I'd rescue from a fire, after my family and my PC and photo albums!

Wow, I couldn't keep a book like that. I buy people such lame presents I'd be ashamed to keep a record of it. :D

  6. I've now received a fair few orders from The Book Depository and I have to say I'm pretty happy with them. The books often arrive a little damaged though. Just a little, but enough to make go 'aww' :D. Still, I'll keep buying from them because they're so darn cheap. And it's weird how they never package two or more books together. I've been ordering 8 or 9 books at a time and they always arrive 3 or 4 at a time in separate envelopes.

Anyway, the main reason I came here was to say that BD now have $A prices on their website! Canadian too, by the look of it. It still seems a couple of dollars cheaper to buy in $US though, at least for now...

  7. Morals? I'm having a late night and I almost let the dirty old man grope you! :D

Almost, but didn't. See? You do have morals. ;)

I think you could probably figure out a way to have a hidden library with natural light, Kylie. Skylights perhaps? I always imagine them with two stories and tall sliding ladder :smile2:.

:D Doh! I can't believe I didn't think of that. I'm having a shocker today. Oh, absolutely - a tall sliding ladder is a must!

  8. Wow you guys are chatty! ;)

I love it when lots of people are here during my day. It makes the time pass more quickly. :D

My houses always include a library with a hidden staircase behind a bookshelf that you can only get to by pulling out a copy of some volume :D.

That's very cool. :smile2: I've had ideas of having a library hidden in the middle of the house, with no obvious means of entry, but then I wouldn't have any natural light, and that's a must in my library!

    ETA:

    5. I've learnt most of my vocabulary from TV, not from school. I can never diss The Bold and the Beautiful too much because that series has tought me so much languagewise!

So long as it didn't teach you too much regarding morals. ;)

  9. There are a few books that were written about the Gilmore Girls, based on certain episodes by the look of it. Here's an Amazon link to the first book. I don't think they'd be my cup of tea, though.

Good night Frankie! I really should get back to work. I've been naughty today (although it's now lunchtime so I can relax guilt-free).

And I agree with everything you've both said about Jess/Luke. :D

  10. I know there were rumours of a GG movie but I doubt that will happen.

I also have somewhere a collection of transcripts of a S8 as written by fans of the series. Apparently it's supposed to be pretty good. I bet it would wrap everything up nicely, although of course it's not quite the same!

  11. :D So you're going to have a bucket handy for when you watch the later seasons?

I think both Jess and Rory would have been able to maintain their independence if they had gotten together later on, but still been able to be really close. With Rory going off on the campaign trail, Jess would have been really happy for her, whereas I think Logan would have tried to stop her, or get her to do something else more in line with what he wanted.

  12. Yes, the title page & front cover get ripped off and sent to the publisher for credit, the book is supposed to go in the bin :D

Thanks for clearing that up. I always wondered about it because I've never seen a book without its cover. Just as well, because I'd probably cry if I did!

Me too. I think the booksellers in the
  13. I really liked Jess when he came back in a later season and

convinced Rory to go back to Yale

. And also when she visited him in Philadelphia.

I think of Dean, Jess and Logan, Jess was definitely the better choice for her.

  14. I think it was some dirty old man, so I was glad you stopped him. (Why I didn't stop himself I don't know!) I'd love to visit Finland and you! As soon as I win lotto, which I'm sure will happen any day now. :D

I'm definitely going to check with my Dad about the nasal spray he uses. Thanks!

Hmm, I better throw in some more facts:

    1. I'd love to make my own jam one day. Even though I rarely even eat it, I really love all different types of jams. :smile2:

    2. I have long, straight brown hair. It has been that way my entire life. I have only dared to colour it a couple of times (barely noticeable colours) and I had a fringe for the first (about) 16 years of my life. I'm too scared to make major changes because I don't want everyone looking at me and making comments!

    3. My biggest dream in life is too live on a good-sized property in the country and have a big workshop where I could mosaic to my hearts content, and when I'm not mosaicing I'd be reading or tending my vege garden (see above comment re winning lotto).

    4. I used to be completely paranoid that everyone was watching me. Something like The Truman Show, only this was before that movie came out (and when it did, I was blown away by the thought that someone else had those same ideas).

    5. I love BLTs and especially Club Sandwiches. If they ever turn up on any menu in a restaurant, I'll always order them (well, I'd order one; obviously I couldn't fit in both!) Yum!

  15. Thanks Frankie :D

Sorry, I meant that I was only halfway through S1 with my posting the plot info (on 13 August I posted Ep 14).

In watching the series, I think I must be around halfway through S3...OK, I just checked and I'm up to Ep 16 of S3. I now know what I'll be doing this weekend. :smile2:

  16. It was probably partly lack of comments, but mostly because I stopped rewatching the eps (:smile2:) and I'm just too darn lazy! But it has always been at the back of my mind to start it up again.

Goodness me, I just checked and I only got about halfway through S1!

I might start watching them again soon and I'll try to time it so we're watching the same seasons at the same time. I think I was up to S3 so it won't take me long to catch up. Once I start watching eps I find it very hard to stop! :D

  17. I can imagine plane tickets to Australia would be pretty expensive from there. ;) Did I ever tell you that I once had a dream that I went to Finland to visit you? I think you took me out for a drink and then we were on a train going to your place and you stopped some guy from groping me. :smile2:

My runny nose is definitely a hayfever thing, and as it's now spring here it is at its worst. Actually my hayfever in general seems to get worse every year. Now I even suffer from it in winter. I've only been on pills to date, and some of them are really good, but they can make me very groggy. I think my Dad has been using a nasal spray and it works well for him, so I might have to try it out as well. :D

I reckon we would get along very well if we met in real life. :D

  18. 1. Next year I need to be staying in an English-speaking country for 2 months and while I'm dreading the arrangements, I'm quite looking forward to it!

Ooh, that sounds good! Do you know where you're going?

    3. I feel completely embarrassed about my Getting into shape -thread as I haven't lost any weight during this whole process but have actually gained a couple of pounds

I'm embarrassed about mine too. And I have also put on weight. ;)

    5. I like to pick my nose :smile2:

And once again you've made me laugh out loud. :D I love your honesty. (And I also have to agree with you :D)

Edit: also, Kylie and Bookjumper, as you two are wishing to get rid of your hayfever, have you ever heard of a treatment where they're trying to get you used to the thing that's giving you the symptoms? Gosh I don't know what to call it in English. Let me check my dictionary. No, no word for it there. But it's got to do with desensitation? You'd have to get regular injections for it?

No, I haven't heard of it, but I'll have to look into it! It's frustrating having a runny nose every day. ;) Most of the time it's just annoying, but occasionally I'll have a really bad day. And it's such a shame, because I love this time of year otherwise. It's starting to get so I don't like going outdoors. :D

  19. 5. I had an operation to have my sinuses drilled 4 weeks ago.

Ouch, that doesn't sound pleasant! :D

That reminds me...my OH and I were trying to decide the other day whether there is an operation you can have to get rid of hayfever for good. I, for one, would sign up for it!

  20. Finished to kill a mockingbird. Brilliant book, can see why you put it on top of the bcf must read list.

Now about 30 pages into a clockwork orange, and just starting to get my head around the strange language. A great read so far.

Excellent. :D Two of my favourite books. I had to print out a list from the internet translating the language used in the book. The further I got, the less I had to refer to it, but it was handy to have it there!

I've read 130 pages of The Shadow of the Wind and received three more books in the mail yesterday:

    twentytwelve by Andrew Keogh

    Messenger by Lois Lowry

The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers

  21. I don't really just wander through book shops. I only go in to buy specific books and then I choose them from the back of the shelf so no-one else has been touching them :smile2: I usually research the books - reviews/comments etc - online first, rather than just looking in book shops. Unless they're second hand book shops where I do just wander around.

This describes me exactly. I go to a lot of trouble sometimes to get the best-looking copy on the shelf.

Umm, you could say they get destroyed :D They get "front-paged"...

What does that mean? Does that have something to do with that bit of writing you sometimes see at the front of a book saying that if the book doesn't have a cover, then it is an illegal copy, or something?
