I wouldn't even know whether a lot of my authors were black or white.
I had the brilliant idea of checking the gallery of my LibraryThing account, where you can see photos of all the authors in your collection. Here's what I've come up with:
Chinua Achebe: Things Fall Apart (classic African novel)
Malorie Blackman: Noughts & Crosses (young adult dystopian series)
ER Braithwaite: To Sir, With Love (one of my favourite movies!)
Ralph Ellison: Invisible Man
Arundhati Roy: The God of Small Things
And I don't have any by this author, but I've heard good things about her books:
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun
I hope this helps!
ETA: in light of Frankie's comments, I should probably point out that all of the books I've mentioned are on my TBR pile, so I can't actually account for levels of sex in any of them. I'm sure the Blackman books would be fine, as they're young adult, and To Sir, With Love would be fine, but I don't know enough about the others to safely vouch for them.

Good haul, Echo! I have Dance Dance Dance on my TBR pile and I really want The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and The Haunting of Hill House. Enjoy!

I would like to offer my services to be a part of the team!
At the moment I'm trying desperately to keep my TBR pile under 600.

I've read another 100 pages of Four to Score.
-
Supernatural. It's past my bed time though, so I should really turn it off and watch the rest later...
-
I finished Deathworld 3 by Harry Harrison today and am now about 50 pages into Four to Score by Janet Evanovich.

People in the street or shops having no spacial awareness or consideration for others i.e walking slowly and blocking the entire pathway, people in front of you stopping suddenly, bumping into you and not apologising.
Ooh, all of these are among my pet hates. And people who walk straight out of a shop and straight into your path without looking as they leave the shop. And this is when I'm a couple of metres away from the shop front. It's even worse when they come out and just stop right in front of you. Go with the flow people! Or move to the side, out of everyone's way, if you need to decide where you're going next.

I had Chinese (again!) This time a combination omelette with fried rice. Yum! And I have leftovers for tea tonight.

Welcome to the forum Max!

I've only read the first two. I have all the others though, and I'm still looking forward to reading them. I was thinking mostly about Miss Havisham and the characters from Jane Eyre when I made my post.

I finished my Trixie Belden book, so Deathworld 3 is back on the agenda.

Don't feel too bad for the Decca Executive, after he was fired he wrote a book aptly called The Man Who Gave The Beatles Away and it's been feeding him ever since
!
I've said before that I'm actually afraid of reading Great Expectations now, as I'm afraid Dickens's Miss Havisham might not live up to Fforde's... how much of a compliment is that?!
Dickens' Miss Havisham is still very forceful, but in a completely different way. To be honest, I had a small problem with Fforde's Miss Havisham. Actually I find it hard to reconcile his version of any of the literary characters with the originals. But I think that's the only problem I have with Fforde.

Oh I wouldn't dream of knowing anyone who's actually read the bookWell, that's something you'll never have to say again, Frankie, because I own the book and I've read it.
I bought it secondhand, and it wasn't too bad, as I recall. I have a tendency to buy most things written by The Beatles 'inner circle' rather than bios written by people who had nothing to do with them and are just rehashing everybody else's stories.

Welcome to the forum, Lindsey

I meant to start reading Deathworld 3 today but I couldn't resist picking up a nice, light Trixie Belden book instead, so Deathworld 3 will probably wait until at least tomorrow.
-
I finished The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, which was an OK read. Now I'm re-reading a book from my childhood called Here Comes Charlie Moon by Shirley Hughes. I'll also be starting Deathworld 3 by Harry Harrison.

I had the lasagne last night so I'll have the satay chicken and rice tonight.
-
I'm about to watch the Extras Christmas Special
Is that new? I don't remember seeing it before.
-
I've enjoyed reading your thoughts so far, sirinrob, and I'm looking forward to the rest!
-
I'm almost 60 pages into The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.
-
You're both making me salivate with all your talk of This Perfect Day. It's on my TBR pile and I really can't wait to read it now!
-
Either leftover lasagne or leftover Chinese (satay chicken and rice). Choices, choices!

I saw WALL-E last night. Very cute.
And while we were in the video shop picking it up, I heard my ex mumbling movie names and heard something about Arsenic and Old Lace. They had a copy for sale (cheap!) and I've been wanting it badly for such a long time. I couldn't believe he found it just like that! I was very happy.

I finished They Shoot Horses, Don't They? by Horace McCoy, and I've started The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark. I'm having a little trouble concentrating because I'm sick and feeling groggy from medicine, but I'm getting there!

I saw A Christmas Carol in 3D. It was excellent! My first 3D movie, and A Christmas Carol is my favourite ever story.
Where is the War and Peace thread?

We have a Tolstoy thread here, which is virtually just a discussion of War and Peace.
It mostly comments from us all saying that we want to read it.
But there are a few good comments in there that you might find useful. Good luck!
