Currently reading: Meanwhile Street by Miranda Glover
It's early morning and Meanwhile Street thinks it's waking to a regular Wednesday in May. Soon a disconcerting sound alerts Maggie and Gordon that something's not right. Throughout the day neighbours bear witness to a series of apparently unrelated incidents that, by midnight, leave a solitary fifteen-year-old running for his life and a Polish girl preparing to flee London for good. It is Thursday before anyone knows that events have culminated in a single, heart-wrenching tragedy. In the aftermath, kids and adults from all backgrounds are forced across their thresholds to confront one another and the community they share. Love and trust, courage and cowardice, hope and despair, are all challenged, with some extraordinary and surprising consequences. (Synopsis taken from Amazon).
So far, so good

Son: "But ....what are they for?"
Me: "Oh my God! That's right, you've never even seen one of these before!"
It was the first time I realized that there truly is a whole generation between myself and my kids.
I love this story. Although records are great I do remember my mum always instructing us to 'dance carefully' so as not to make the needle jump - lol!
When I was 8 I begged and begged my parents to buy me Blondie's Call Me on tape. It's still one of my favourite songs and band todayOoo real nostalga trip for me there - I love Blondie too and their songs remind me of my school days/early teens.

Is noise allowed? The TV or the children?
I can read with the telly on but prefer it to be quiet.
Indoors or out? Morning or Evening?
I love reading on the decking but mainly read indoors. My best time is the morning - if I read in either the afternoon or evening then I nod off very quickly and easily!
Do you read on sofa or do you prefer to snuggle in bed with a good read?
My favourite place is either in bed (on waking) or in the corner of the corner settee in my conservatory.
Is a cuppa close to hand? Do you feast while you read?
I usually make a cup of tea - it's almost like a ritual.
Does everything have to be just so?
No just happy to grab any opportunity to read.
So what's your reading habit?
If I'm getting plenty of reading time then I like to aim to read about 50 pages a day - if I do that then it keeps me focused on making reading more of a priority, otherwise days can go by without me picking up a book.

Just started Meanwhile Street by Miranda Glover today - I'm about 70 pages in and it's good.

I'm a street in London and something's going on . . .

I'm married with two young sons and I've left my family behind in London to have an adventure in India.

Lasagne served with rocket.

I love to travel and experience new places but have to confess that I get nearly as much pleasure researching somewhere.
-
One of my favourite settings is the setting of Wuthering Heights - it's so atmospheric and I just want to be there when I read it. I also like books that are set in places I know - particularly Manchester.
-
Last film I saw was Final Destination 3D - really enjoyed it.

When I was 15 I had a school holiday baby sitting job for my parents' friends. They had two sons and I had to sit in the house so that they could go in and out without worrying about losing the key etc. I would spend the day watching telly and got into Take the High Road - I loved that soap!
-
In bed - in the morning, night time I'm out like a light, or in the conservatory on the corner settee.

I prefer George to Anne as I'm a bit of a tomboy anyway, and the dog was hers and Uncle Quentin was her dad and they owned an island, so she was the coolest.
I camp often with friends and once the tent is up I announce that I'm going to be Anne - I'm refering to Famous Five Anne and I say it as at that point I'm going into the tent to make it homely, put beds up, etc.

Joan Aiken - The Wolves of Willoughby Chase
Laura Ingells Wilder - The Little House series
Robert O'Brien - Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh
Penelope Lively - The Ghost of Thomas Kempe
Phillipa Pearce - A Dog So Small
-
About 7 pages of The Life You Want by Emily Barr - too many distractions during my lunch break at work!
-
One of the best films I've watched this year - a good way to spend a rainy Bank Holiday Monday with choritzo chicken cooking away in the oven.
-
I've read 42 books this year.
My top 3 are:
What Was Lost by Catherine O'Flynn
Worldwide Adventures in Love by Louise Wener
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
Most disappointing was the Blackest Bird by Joel Rose

Thanks for that Michelle - I enjoyed reading such an interesting interview. It's definately whetted my appetite.

Hi LovesReading - it's fiction.
It came in to the library in the new books pile - thought it looked good so took it home - enjoying it so far.
Has anyone read Once Upon a Time in England? That was one of the best reads for me this year.
