Hi Sam I've written quite a lot of short stories and I'm currently working on my first novel, which I'm probably not aiming to have published but rather writing for the learning experience (which it certainly is lol). I'm not sure what kind of genre I would like to specialize in really so I'm trying a few things first to see which suits me best.

I put Eleven Terrible Months on hold while I went away for the weekend because it's a bit bulky for the plane, so I've now picked up Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie, which is a lot slimmer. I think I'll give up on Entertaining Angels since too much time's elapsed since I put it to one side.

I've been watching this. Well, I watched the first one and I have the other two sky plussed.

I can't say I've ever had that comment directed at me either. A lot of my friends read and a lot of my colleagues do too. My family are also quite bookish. A couple of colleagues I know never read and hate the idea, but they are in the minority. I can't understand them.

I read this earlier in the year and enjoyed it. His discussion of Shakespeare 'conspiracy theories' was particularly interesting. I'm glad the voice of reason prevailed.

Yes, quite a few actually and of both types. I'm the former at the moment, hoping one day to be the latter

Hope you enjoy Frenchman's Creek. I've never read it but I love a bit of Daphne Du Maurier. I'll get round to it one day.

Have you read the Harry Potter books? They are quite easy to read. How about a bit of Terry Pratchett for some light humour fantasy? The series starts with the colour of magic but book 4 Mort was always my favourite (and doesn't require reading the first 3) As for sci fi I loved ChildHoods End by arthur C Clarke, I probably read it in my late teens. Another of my all time faves is Watership down by Richard Adams Good luck - I hope you find something to enjoy.

I discovered olives within the last 4 or 5 years. They were definitely an acquired taste but now I'm totally addicted. I've never liked salad cream. My family lapped it up but I'd always turn my nose up. OH loves it - and now I've started eating it - and liking it!

One Hour Photo is a great film. And I loved The Talented Mr Ripley. I just remembered a truly awful film I was forced to sit through last Christmas. Catwoman with Halle Berry. It was dreadful.

I'm really enjoying 11 months although it's flipping scary in parts. I'm glad I live with OH now, I just don't think I could read this if I still lived alone. Even with him in the house I'm still getting spooked

Being John Malkovich is one of my favourite films I loved the Matrix but HATED the sequel (part 2) Most sequels are awful. Erm - saw a pretty dreadful comedy a year or two ago in the cinema, Employee of the month I think it was called. I'm sure I'll think of some more.

Hi Sam Welcome to BCF. I've yet to read Blood Ties but it sounds great. I think it will probably end up on my Christmas list. Was this the first book you wrote? Or did you write lots before getting this one published? Thanks Andrea ETA: sorry I just went to your website and saw you wrote and published a novel before Blood Ties. What I mean is did you have a kind of 'back catalogue' of unpublished works before you started actually getting stuff published? I hope that made sense
