  2. Happy birthday Beef. Hope you're having a nice day :)

  3. I'm very tempted to put this on my Christmas list.

  5. I've just started this. My first impression was, whoa, why such long sentences, but now I've tuned in a bit I think I'll enjoy it.
  6. Hi and welcome. Nice to meet you
  7. Started Austen's Persuasion last night.
  8. I've not read nearly enough classics so I am going to try and rectify that. Here is a list of all classics I've ever read (up until starting this challenge): Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte Dracula - Bram Stoker Tess of the Durbervilles - Thomas Hardy The Mill on the Floss - George Elliot The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde Silas Marner - George Elliot Shakespeare: Hamlet, Macbeth, Antony and Cleopatra, A Midsummer Nights Dream Books read since starting the challenge (that aren't on the hit list): The Hunchback of Notre Dame - Victor Hugo Crime And Punishment - Dostoyevski Great Expectations - Dickens The Mayor of Castorbridge - Thomas Hardy King Lear - Shakespeare And here is my hit list: Persuasion - Jane Austen Anna Karenina/War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy King Lear - Shakespeare Les Miserables - Victor Hugo Far from the Madding Crowd - Thomas Hardy The Iliad - Homer Chekhov The Alchemist - Ben Jonson Bold = read
  9. I think so - vampires and things right? There's also a Day Watch. My OH read Twilight Watch.
  10. Thoroughly enjoyed This Sweet Sickness. The protagonist is a real anti-hero and I think its testament to Highsmith's ability that she is able to create a character who is scary, unreasonable, obsessive, disturbed and at the same time sympathetic. 10/10
  11. Just wanted to drop by and send you a hug :friends0:

    Thinking of you xxx

  12. Hi and welcome
  13. Oh really. He sounded north eastern to me. I'll have to go and listen to him again now!
  14. Yes. I think they both have North East/Newcastleish accents. Perhaps the blonde one's is stronger.
  15. I must admit, I can remember very little about it, other than Ralph of course
  16. Loved all of those.
  17. What was the verdict on Forever? It's years since I read it.
  18. We had chicken pie, roast potatoes, veg and gravy.
  19. Hi Donatello Welcome
  20. The Carry on films are great. My favourite is Carry on Screaming. I love the way they lull you into a false sense of security - 'Ah yes I'm above this sort of childish humour,' and then have you laughing at something so childish and silly that you almost feel ashamed of yourself. That is their genius.
  21. Hi and welcome
  22. Hi and welcome
  23. Hi and welcome - nice to have you here
  24. Thanks Sara :) There's something about singing that seems to be uplifting for the soul isn't there. I come home buzzing after choir!

  25. Oh I loved The Stand when I read it at the beginning of the year. How far in are you?
