Chocolat byJoanne Harris:mrgreen: 'For the grounds were regularly patrolled by porters in night-blue uniforms who meted out their own brand of justice'. Nocturnes by John Connolly, taken from the story, 'The Ritual Bones'
  8. I'm Gyre on the library thing, feel free to add me, I have not done much yet apart from add one book:smile2: will add more later...
  9. I just started reading 'Chocolat', I really like the style of Joanne Harris's style of writing, it could just be me but it so relaxed and care free. I have not seen the film, 'Chocolat', but I will renting it out real soon. 'Nocturnes' by John Connolly, is a assortment of different stories, so far so good.
  10. Finished 'Handbags and Halos' and it was not your usual chick literature book, there was a lot of depth to this book which I liked.
  11. Thanks for the link V, its great, I will most certainly be using it!
  12. I didn't realise that Gerard Butler was in 'Phantom of the opera', then I read KW's post and everything fell into the place, so thanks KW!
  13. Just wanted to say, you sound very interesting!
  14. I have a bookmark which I bought in Belfast, actually on the day I was leaving to return to Glasgow. Its five years old now and a bit worse for wear but I still use it, its covered with sellotape and various pictures. My friend bought me a beautiful silver bookmark with my name on it, but it is so nice, I don't like using it, I keep it in its box...
  15. I have 'Chocolat' by Joanne Harris in my TBR pile, enjoy all of your books Angel...
  16. I added this book to my wish list on amazon...
  17. I finished 'The Historian' by Elizabeth Kostova, I really enjoyed it, I meant to say it was a re-read, still enjoyable. The ex-wives's surivial guide was ok, very predictable though.
  18. I have read 'Lucky' and I prefer it to 'The Lovely Bones' and 'Salem's Lot' is one of my favourite Stephen King's...
  19. 'The Undomestic Goddess' was hilarious, I also recently discovered Sharon Owens (there was a pack of two of her books for sale in Asda), which were 'The Teahouse on Mulberry Street' and 'The Ballroom on Magnolia Street'. Both of them were good reads, chick literature at their best, I think I would invest in some more of her books.
  20. Its in my TBR pile
  21. Hello... I really enjoy the shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella, the next installment comes out in two weeks. I have read other Sophie Kinsella books as well, 'Can you keep a secret', etc, I also like Marian Keyes, I have a few of her books now, I really enjoyed 'The other side of the story', Lisa Jewell, my favourite book being 'Ralph's Party'. I have only read one Sheila O'Flanagan book and that was 'Isobel's Wedding'.
  22. The Kite Runner is such a good book, sad, hard-hitting, but full of warmth at the same time, I really enjoyed it.
  23. Title of book: A Place Called Here Author: Cecelia Ahern Amazon ISBN Number: 0007198906 Since Sandy Shortt's childhood schoolmate disappeared twenty years ago, Sandy has been obsessed with missing things. Finding becomes her goal - whether it's the odd sock that vanished in the washing machine, the car keys she misplaced in her rush to get to work or the graver issue of finding the people who vanish from their lives. Sandy dedicates her life to finding these missing people, offering devastated families a flicker of hope. Jack Ruttle is one of those desperate people. It's been a year since his brother, Donal vanished into thin air and the sleepless nights and frantic days aren't getting any easier. Thinking Sandy Shortt could well be the answer to his prayers, he embarks on a quest to find her. But, when Sandy goes missing too, her search ends when she stumbles upon the place - and people - she's been looking for all of her life. A world away from her loved ones and the home she ran from for so long, Sandy soon resorts to her old habit again, searching. Though this time, she is desperately trying to find her way home! Have you ever lost something and no matter how much you search for it, you just can not find it, well after reading 'A Place Called Here' by Cecelia Ahern, all that wondering about where certain items have went missing will make sense. Sandy Shortt finds the place where everyone who has ever been lost ends up, where every lost item goes, a place called here. The story begins with the disappearance of Sandy Shortt's class mate, Jenny May Butler when she is 10 years old. Jenny-May becomes the perfect child overnight, the missing child, no trace, no leads, she has just disappeared and so Sandy Shortt's quest for answers begins.... 'A Place Called Here' reads well, and initially you will not like Sandy Shortt at all, but as the story progresses, she grows on you, you understand her better, the reason behind her obsession over finding all things lost. Sad and touching at the same time, A Place Called Here is a lovely book and you actually feel satisified when you get to the end of it.
  24. Currently reading: The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, but I need to make more of an effort reading it. Stories we could tell by Tony Parsons. I started 'A Place Called Here' by Cecelia Ahern yesterday morning and I finished it this morning. An enjoyable read.
  25. I really enjoyed 'Schindler's Ark', it didn't pull any punches, it was direct
