  1. Not yet. I've only been to town once, twice and didn't have a chance either time to check it out. But I will.
  2. LOL Muggle! I was counting the series as one book. Ya caught me! I have a few others of L'Amour's, but not many. I do like his writing a lot though, and Sacketts is one I love to go back and reread. One of these days I might get to read all of his. I hope.
  3. I have added it to my list muggle. Thanks.
  4. Thanks Dogmatix, I'll try one of those. I've written them on my list. Maureen, I should have mentioned I don't care for combination tastes, such as one thing that has a fruity taste. Just a peculiar quirk of mine, but thanks. Louise, what is shiraz?
  5. I read God is an Englishman ages ago and loved it.
  6. Hah, now there you've got me...I think a red or a ros
  7. What would you guys recommend for someone that doesn't know the first thing about wine? I don't like overly sweet, and do like a bitter taste. I don't think I like dry wine. Just wondering.
  8. Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov Speak, Memory - Vladimir Nabokov Malevil - Robert Merle Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte The Sacketts - Louis L'Amour I suppose I selected favorites as books I can go back to and reread anytime like an old friend I haven't seen in a while. There are tons more, but that's a start at any rate, and the "top" ones change as time goes by.
  9. "He sort of steps back and smiles a little, and looks at me as though he's thinking, "Today we're cordial! What can account for that?" Gilead by Marilynne Robinson
  10. Well don't be ashamed, I had not heard of him either. Unfortunately we cannot keep up with everyone everywhere, even if we want to. But he does sound like a fascinating man, and I wish I had heard of him and read his articles, especially on Haile Selassie. What a wonderfully fulfilled life he led! RIP Just ordered his book Emperor.
  11. I discovered Reichs a few years ago, and immediately read the first 5 or so in a row, loved doing it that way. I've enjoyed her series, but the last two have not been up to snuff for me. Well I should not say the last two, I have not read the last one yet. But Cross Bones was [to me at least] disappointing. I feel she should stick to her own territory more. I'll post about Break No Bones as soon as I get to reading it. I don't care for the television series.
  12. Ohhh! Can't wait to get to it! Just received The Dream of Scipio yesterday, and now my TBR stack is...../groan/...I don't know if that's me groaning, or the stacks about to topple!
  13. OK, it'll be a bit before I get to it anyhow.
  14. I read this awhile back, maybe a couple of years ago, and surprised myself by enjoying it. At the time it was a departure for me, and I had it for a year of so before I actually read it. Yes, the plot is fuzzy for me now as well, but it was physically descriptive, and brought out the girl's emotions well. Definitely a thumbs up.
  15. dogmatix, Have you read Dream of Scipio by Pears? I just read up on it at Amazon, and ordered it. Here's hoping! /fingers crossed/
  16. A little of all of the above I suppose. Recomended for sure, finding authors while hunting favorite authors, sometimes a name that is totally different to my usual picks. Just plain scanning second hand shelves.....if I've seen an author's name on the forum, I will check it out.
  17. Hi! And welcome back!

    Why?

I am sure it will become easier as you reinforce the habit. Now if I could just get into the habit!
  19. Crack a spine?? Horrors! I'll not even do that to a paperback. /shivers/ I like hardbacks, or trade size paperbacks for the most part. If I have to have a particular book and the only way I can get it is in the smaller size, well I won't bite my nose off to spite my face, but if I really like the book, I'll find a sale or second hand hardback.....eventually!
  20. And then again there is ROTFALOLTIC.... Rolled on the floor and laughed out loud till I cried........
  21. Phew! This one is already in my TBR stack. I'm pretty sure that I saw most of the movie that was based on this book. Really interesting.
  22. Ya sold me! I just ordered it.

    Why?

ROTFALOLTIC!! Don't step in the hoya on the way. Well, I have started a little teeny list in a notebook....assuming I can keep remembering, and not lose the notebook. You know at my advanced age, they say the little gray cells are the first thing to go..... Isn't that right? Can't quite remember...................
  24. pontalba

    Why?

Thanks! I have mostly relied on my memory, although a few times Amazon has told me that I've ordered something already. I'll probably at least start keeping a list...I'd considered it a week or so ago, and then became curious as to everyone's reasoning.
