Wordy I don't mind. I agree, when everyone either loves or hates a book, it's darned boring. So. Very. BAD!

The Stand is one of my favorite, period. I just finished Under the Dome, and enjoyed it a lot as well, so can recommend it. Athena, your review and some remarks I've read on here have convinced me to try IT again. I understand some of the characters are the same as Under the Dome. I love carry over stuff like that. Great review! Thanks!

We watched the BBC mini series Edge of Darkness (1985). Fantastic acting, and story.

The "Before"-trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight)

My husband and I have seen all three and loved the first two, but the third was a bit of a disappointment. We have the first two on DVD, but I'm not sure we'll bother purchasing the last one. Maybe for completeness's sake. I'm afraid I don't remember lots of details though. Just in general. -
I just received an email from Book Depository advertising a sale that begins on Thursday. 50 Books, 50 Offers, 25 Hours http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/50booksoffer?utm_source=NL-Body&utm_medium=email-Newsletter&utm_term=Find-out-more_button&utm_content=Main-promo&utm_campaign=25hr-Nov-13

LOL, no, but I do wish Sansom would hurry up and write another in his series! I wasn't really interested in the last one he wrote, I don't much care for alternative history novels. Plus after reading the synopsis, I thought I'd miss a lot of references as I don't know London/England/geography. IOW, what really is, as opposed to what is in the book.

Oh, piffle, who cares about football? yeech. No cause for the grumps. It turned into a gorgeous day today, after a cloudy morning, the sky turned a clear blue with, finally a few clouds in the late afternoon. We went out early this morning, and had brek at Starbucks, triple white chocolate lattes and a bacon and egg sandwich. We were only going to go to the grocery afterwards and come home. But once back in the car we thought of driving across the lake to visit our favorite second hand book store in Uptown New Orleans, McKoewn's Books. We managed a few..... Then we drove over to the French Quarter (about a 10 minute drive from Uptown) and stopped at a hole-in-the-wall po-boy shop.....I had the loveliest roast beef po-boy I've had in ages. YUMMMMM! Stopped a Whole Foods on the way home, and more grocery shopping. Long, and wonderful day.

Glad you're finishing Steve. I'm up to page 101 in the trilogy...I have the omnibus version. It was a true slog through the first kitchen scene.....I had the urge to put the book down and wipe my hands. Which, come to think of it, is pretty darned good writing! lol I'll definitely finish now, but some is a slog, and some really peaks my interest. He is just so bloody ponderous sometimes. sheesh.

I'm on page 59 of Titus Groan, and after a rocky start, am starting to get into it.

Robert Silverberg. I just purchased 8 volumes of his collected short stories. He is an amazing author. Inventive, varied, just an excellent writer. -
I've discovered Robert Silverberg. I don't usually list the kindle books I buy, but these are extraordinary. And, a steal at 2.99 USD each. Hot Times in Magma City: The Collected Stories of Robert Silverberg, Volume Eight We Are For the Dark: The Collected Stories of Robert Silverberg, Volume Seven Multiples: The Collected Stories of Robert Silverberg, Volume Six The Palace at Midnight: The collected Stories of Robert Silverberg, Volume Five Trips: The Collected Stories of R.S. Volume Four Something Wild is Loose: The Collected Stories of R.S. Volume Three To the Dark Star: The Collected Stories of R.S. Volume Two To Be Continued: The Collected Stories of R.S. Volume One

For years I've had a bee in my bonnet regarding Norman Mailer. The only book by him I've read (so far) is Harlot's Ghost. At the end he wrote TO BE CONTINUED, and the story should have been continued. However........it wasn't. I've been irritated ever since. He wrote HG in 1991, and died in 2007, so the sequel ain't coming! Anyhow, this rant is prologue to the fact that I saw a bio of Mailer, A Double Life by J. Michael Lennon, and was intrigued. Yes, dear reader, I bought it. Along with Mind of an Outlaw Selected Essays by Norman Mailer. So there! A great quote in the bio regarding Harlot's Ghost (p. 614) says: "His greatest regret, he said the year before he died, was "the memory of the books I promised to write and didn't". Even as it stands, unfinished and abandoned, it may be his finest novelistic achievement, one of the last high peaks of his writing life, and the summa of his knowledge of postwar America, as seen through the eyes of two generations of CIA agents." How can I stay angry with a man that said that? That's easy, I can't.

I'm actually having a bit of trouble getting into it. But I'm only about 20-odd pages in so far.
-
LOL that has always worked for me!

I agree, it's one that can be reread, I was bound to miss something. I have his Dark Tower series here as well, I gathered them second hand a couple of years ago. I think I may have read the first of it many years ago.

Thanks BB! I've heard that before. What a shame. Have you read it?

I love the 1950 version. Did you know James Arness plays "the thing"? He of Gunsmoke fame.....

Well, at least you'll be able to get some sweets on sale for the re-do of Friday night..............

I've got Touchstone...I thought I'd read it and that it was a sequel to........gak, can't remember the name. Have to check it out. Anyhow, the plot in the synopsis/link you gave doesn't sound familiar. But does sound interesting. Thanks!
