  1. Saw Les Mis on Wednesday, wasn't overly keen to go but two friends were going so tagged along, glad to say I did. Was very good, but like you Ches I did want them to just speak for some of it, why do they have to sing everyline. Also I was saying to myself at one point, please end soon! I wouldn't go see it again, once was enough for me. Last night hubby and I went to see 'Lincoln'. It was excellent. Daniel Dey Lewis was fantastic as President Lincoln. The way he looked, spoke and moved. I can see why he was a great President in his time. I was totally fascinated by what he achieved.

Another weekend of nothing to report....snow all over the place, could take a while to get back to normal. Just indoor training for him today, although have to say he wasn't overly keen about training on a hard gym floor, given just getting his hammy back to normal.

Shame about defeat Sedge, but if expected it softens the blow...4-0 not too drastic though. Zero footie to report here, apart from Andy and his trip with mates to Newcastle...said the Newcastle v Reading game was diabolical, they had more fan watching the snow slide of the opposite stand roof onto the security guys surrounding the grounds...lol.

Lucky you.... I can't believe that they have said on the website 'all municipal pitches are OFF Saturday and will reinspect on Sunday' Do they actually think there is a hope in hell the weather will have improved. Hope Sunday is off....Andy is away to Newcastle with mates today until Sunday night and we have all the footie gear to get to home game for U'15's (which won't be on) and his assistant coach has all the contacts etc. Oh the joys of winter footie

  20. For those who like something set in either of the World Wars this may appeal. If you have read Birdsong it has a similar sort of theme, but stands on its own. I thoroughly enjoyed it and is a new author for me. It was a bookring via Bookcrossing and so glad I signed up for this one. Review here
  21. 'My Dear, I wanted to tell you' by Louisa Young 'The lives of two very different couples are irrevocably intertwined and forever changed in this stunning World War I epic of love and war. August 1917, a letter, two lovers, a terrible lie. In war truth is only the first casualty......' Well for my first full read of the year it was a good one. Riley and Nadine are brought together at an early age, and he then signs up for war....will she see him again. The promise each other they will, but he is wounded, badly but word gets back to her he isn't. Their lives are intertwined with another family through Riley and his CO Major Locke, his wife and cousin and the hospital when he is sent back to England. It goes between Ypres, Paris and London, but can love hold them together. Well....what can I say. After a slow start with this book and getting used to the way it was written, I loved it. It took a wee while to get to know all the characters, but then it took off, once the scene was set. First World War is always a difficult subject to write about without it being a bit gruesome given the subject matter, but all the characters have their own tale to tell and how they deal with the harshness and heartbreaks of it all. Riley being promoted and not knowing why, I had to feel for him stuck in the middle of good and bad. I thought this book had been well researched and can imagine it being a bit overwhelming at times for the author while going through hospital procedures etc during WW1 era. but it was dealt with in a very detailed and sensitive manner, as it had to be within those chapters. Some descriptions were gruesome, but war and its wounded were. I have to say Chapter 25 was the most touching for me, but I won't say to much why, you will maybe understand when you have read it. Let's just say Riley has to come to some sort of acceptance of his wounds and this is done through the eyes of a child, and yes I did shed a tear. 4/5
