Just bought this. I read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow years ago and can't remember a thing about it! Always interested in the original version and it's great to get it on Kindle, so thanks for that.

I hope you paid what I did (99 cents) for the kindle book. I really think you will enjoy the writing as it is superb IMO.

Have always meant to read Sleepy Hollow.

This is the Edition that I bought for my kindle and it was very good.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: The Original 1820 Edition: Classic Illustrated Edition - Kindle edition by Irving, Washington. Literature & Fiction Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

Initially I bought an Edition that had both Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip van Winkle in it but I had to return it to Amazon as the text was so small that I couldn't read it.

  3. A few little puns:

I just finished reading a book about the world's nicest basement. It is a best cellar.

It was my first week of working in a bicycle factory and already they made me a spokesman.

My laptop caught pneumonia. Turns out I left Windows open.

The main function of your big toe is to make sure all the furniture in the house is in the right place.

Didja ever notice how horses have few divorces? It's because they have stable relationships.

My teachers always told me I procrastinate and would never amount to much. I told them, just you wait!

90% of bald people still own a comb. They just can't part with it.

Every morning I get hit by the same bicycle. It's a vicious cycle!!

The word "incorrectly" is spelled incorrectly in every dictionary.

I've been experimenting with breeding racing deer. Now I'm accused of trying to make a fast buck.

Yesterday morning I yelled into a colander and strained my voice.

What do you call a row of rabbits hopping backwards? A receding hare line!!!

You can trust a nudist. They have nothing to hide.

  4. 25. The Legend of Sleepy hollow - Washington Irving - 4.5/5 - There is a reason this book is considered a "Classic" even though it is a short story. The writing is superb!

    26. Rip Van Winkle - Washington Irving - 4/5 - Another short story by Irving. Washington Irving was a great writer and I enjoy books from back in the early1800's. The descriptions of the Hudson River Valley area are enjoyable to read about.

I loved both of the forementioned books. Probably almost everyone has heard the tale in these books and I encourage you to read them if only for the writing itself. You can't go too wrong as they are both "short" stories. 🙂

I am currently reading "The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store". I am about 85% thru the book and will not give a rating until finished.

Saw this on Facebook, I'm actually going to St P on Monday to meet some ex-colleagues for lunch so will definitely check it out!

Give us your thoughts after you see it.

    I love my tsundoku 😄

It’s nice to see so much nice and fun stuff on here. I currently have the worst cold. Luckily I’ve finished work early (not intentionally, it just worked out that way!), so I’m looking forward to curling up with my book now.

I thought you’d all appreciate this too though. St Pancras station has a book tree this Christmas. Apparently there are little reading nooks underneath it, which you can sit in and it plays a Christmas story to you 😄

    That is really neat.

  7. Our neighborhood has its own website, Last night was Halloween and the kids went "trick or treating". One of the neighbors has a doorbell video and it showed one of the kids doing a good deed. I copied some posts from the website that shows how nice kids can be.

Anyone recognize this young lady? 3 blind mice maybe? I would like her parents to know of good deed that she decided was “something kind to do” after earlier visitors emptied our bowl (after only 7 trick or treaters). Made me smile when she decided to share her candy so our bowl was not empty. Message me if you know her!

can I just tell you…my heart was full when I watched the video. She saw an empty bowl and shared some of her own candy and when her friend asked her why, she responded that it was just something nice to do. Her parents should be proud and give her a hug for me!! Raising kids right in this day and time is hard work, they are making it look easy!!

You sharing this means a lot to us. Sarah didn’t even mention this to us when she got home. I’m so proud of her! Thank you!

  8. My Granddaughter lives in NYC and over the weekend traveled up state to visit Sleepy Hollow. Washington Irving is buried there.

He is the author of the Classic "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (Ichabod Crane & The Headless Horseman) as well as Rip Van Winkle. I have posted a couple photos my GD sent of the Cemetary where he is buried. He wrote short stories and those 2 became a Classic.

The photo that includes a lot of headstones shows the one of Washington Irving. Enlarge the photo and his is the photo between 2 American flags.

I tried pumpkin pie for the first time yesterday and I love it!

Glad to hear that you like it. We have it every year on "Thanksgiving along with apple pie.

We had a nice dinner tonight. Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, peas, and cornbread stuffing.

Don't have a date yet. It'll be weeks though as specialist surgeons need to do the job.

I hope your surgery goes well. In the meantime, take care of yourself.
