Fforde has an excellent understanding of literature and uses it exceptionally well in his books. He really knows how to group certain Book Genres, especially the Erotic novel genre.
From his current book:
A few Genre realignments
Erich von Daniken's Chariots of the Gods has been moved from nonfiction to fiction and Orwell's 1984 is no longer truly fiction, so has been reallocated to nonfiction. Vonnegut's The Sirens of Titan is no longer Sci-Fi but philosophy.
The subgenre of Literary Smut has finally been disbanded , with Fanny Hill and Molly Flanders being transferred to Racy Novel and Lady Chatterley's Lover to Human Drama.
The History of Tom Jones is now in Romantic Comedy, and The Story of O is part of the Erotic Novel genre, as are Lolita and The Autobiography of a Flea. Orwell's Animal Farm belongs not just to the Allegorical and Political genres but has been expanded to be part of Animal Drama and Juvenilia as well.

Tonight we are having Brunswick Stew - Virginia style. It is so good. I have it on the stove cooking right now. Should take about an hour and a half.

I am sure that there will be many that don't agree with me, but, I enjoy Jasper Fforde as much as, and maybe more than, Terry Pratchett.
-
Tonight we had cabbage and noodles and smoked pork chops. I also had a bottle of beer.

I checked out at the Library today Jasper Fforde's latest book........."Thursday Next - First Among Sequels". I am looking forward to starting the book tonight.
I finished reading the book tonight. Jasper did a brilliant job of writing. Louiseog was 100% correct, I was not disappointed. Great storyline and reading. I recommend it wholeheartedly to fans of Jasper Fforde.

We had our son over for diner last night and he said that the new Jack Nicholson and Morgon Freeman movie...."Bucket" will have you in tears. He also said that it was a very good movie.

I honestly can't think of anything I want. I'll probably end up making pasta and garlic bread. I have this great gorgonzola spread that is so yummy on the garlic bread!
hehe, we had pizza for dinner tonight.

We had a bottle of Courtney Benham 2006 Pinot Noir with dinner Saturday night. It was very good. A little light and smooth. Even though I had Bison Steak for dinner the wine went very well. It is from California.

I have requested 3 books from the library and Duma Key is one of them. The others are The Appeal by Grisham and I am Legend.

I managed not to look at the spoiler this time, Muggle!
We have not had any episodes of Ugly Betty since well before Xmas.
You should be getting last night's episode soon I would think. It really, really was a good episode and I think sets the tone for future shows. please though don't look at the spoiler if you intend to watch the show.

Tonight's episode of Ugly betty was a very good one. I am getting to like Gio. This is a real spoiler so don't look
Bradford's wife was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity......thanks to Betty's efforts. So, she will take over Mode and work with her kids.
There is one new episode left and then re-runs due to the writer's strike. I am anxious to see next week's show as the preview looks like a wingdinger.

bagel queen, are you still with us.
If so, try a book by James Lee Burke. You can find descriptions of his books on Amazon. He writes in the "crime" area and is excellent.

Thanks judy. Have you ever eaten pickled eggs (in beets) with horseradish. It is wonderful.
-
I'm making a MASSIVE pot of Rogan Josh. I'll be freezing about 1/2 a dozen portions for other times...
Ok, I'll bite. What in the world is Rogan Josh????
Roast chicken, roast spuds and cabbage - lots of cabbage!I also love cabbage. I have never heard of using horseradish sauce with it though and I also love horseradish. How is the horseradish used.
-
You all have convinced me to give I Am Legend a try. I will check to see if our library has a copy.

Off the top of my head, some of the best that I have read in 2007 in no particular order:
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
The Moon Is Down by John Steinbeck (re-read)
The Pillars Of The Earth by Ken Follett

That sounds delicous Muggle!
It was very good. We really enjoyed it. I had a bottle of beer with dinner.

No Country For Old Men has been nominated for Best Picture of the Year by the Motion Picture Academy. It stars Tommy Lee Jones. The movie is currently playing at the movies and has been for some time now.
-
I just finished readin "Suttree" by Cormac McCarthy. A great piece of writing. His descriptions and insight into the people are amazing.
-
Cabbage and noodles and smoked pork chops. Perhaps a glass or two of Vinho Verde, or maybe a beer.
-
bagel queen, someone asked but I will ask again. Give us an idea of who your favorite authors are.

It is expensive, but seeing as how only just a drop can be squeezed from each grape, I would have imagined that it would be expensive.
How does it taste Muggles?
OMG, it was great. It is more an after dinner drink because it is sweet but oh so smooth. I am not a fan of sweet wines but their homemade wines including the Ice Wine are so good.

You are correct as it does test one's knowledge of literature and I also sometimes miss all of the satire. I read Fforbe's The Eyre Affair and it got me so curious that I then went and read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.
I really think that Fforde is pretty brilliant and his latest book is excellent.
