  1. I read many very good books in 2023 and am thankful. I just read where the Amazon Editors have selected one of the books I read, "The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store", as their choice for book of the year. Another book that i read, "The River We Remember", was also selected as a top choice by their Editors.

I feel sad though that there will be no more books by Cormac Mccarthy.

  2. The River We Remember:

The writing and story were very good. There were many different characters in the story. and you need to pay attention to each one and how they relate to the others, The more I think of the book the more I realize how much I enjoyed it. The book keeps you wondering who was the person that shot the wealthy guy, but the story is a lot more than that.

You may also enjoy Ordinary Grace and This Tender Land by Krueger. They were both books that got good reviews.

I have read all of William Kent Krueger's books and maybe I am a little prejudiced on him. He also writes a series that

revolves around Cork O'Connnor, I believe it was the first book in this series that almost made me cry at the ending.

  3. John Hartford - Wikipedia (worth reading, if you have the time)

A few of John Hartford’s accomplishments:

John Hartford wrote “Gentle On My Mind” which was recorded by Glen Cambell:

"Gentle on My Mind",  won three Grammy Awards and was listed

in "BMI's Top 100 Songs of the Century".[2][3

John Hartford also recorded 2 songs for the movie O’ Brother Where Art Thou.

You may agree or disagree with this list but there are some “great” songs on it, scroll down to see the list after accessing the site:

    Tom Smothers - Wikipedia

The Smother’s Brother’s  political stances led to their show's demise,[8] with David Steinberg later claiming "The most innovative variety show on television shut down because of political pressure."[9

I haven't heard of him, Muggle, but if his show was your second favourite to Northern Exposure, it must have been right up there. Loved Northern Exposure, one of a kind.

Tom and his brother Dick were also one of a kind. Truly great TV show. They frequently had John Hartford and Glen Campbell on the show as guests.

Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas  🎄

That is really cute. I wish I could buy Christmas Cards like that to send.

We took down our Christmas Tree today. It took 2 and a half hours. We had to take each ornament and wrap it in tissue paper and take the icicles down separate. Then I took the artificial tree down (3 parts) and haul it upstairs and put in a cubbyhole off one of the bedrooms. Completely tired me out.

What was The River We Remember like? Apart from you obviously enjoying it. It's on my wish list.

The quantity of books I have read this year were down but the quality of some were excellent and almost all of the others were very good. I feel fortunate to have read the last books written by Cormac McCarthy before he passed away this year. He is one of my favorite  writers. and I believe I have read all of his books. So sorry to hear of his passing from a selfish standpoint as there will be no more of his books to read.
