  1. Hello Mrs C. Hope you enjoy it here.
  2. Oh I went there by the steam train years ago. I think it left from Pickering. It was a very pretty place, with sheep wandering about all over the place.
  3. Happy birthday Janet. I hope you have a great day.:sign0072:

  4. Happy Birthday H&D! I hope it is a great one. Are you doing something exciting today?:balloons:

  5. Thanks Laa Laa. I will look out for that.
  6. Oh dear! In that case I will save it
  7. I have just finished reading The Crimson Petal and the White and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was going through a bad patch in reading so taking on a long book was a risk, but it was very worthwhile. Hopefully I am back on track thanks to this book. Thanks for the recommendations folks. I now have The Apple on my shelf, but I am saving it for later.
  8. The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber I have had this book on my shelf for quite a while now, but there have been so many people on here that said they liked it, so I thought that now was the time to try it. I thought it was very descriptive of Victorian London. The pages are crammed with the dirt and grime of London as well as scenes of sex and oppression. Even the main characters were less than likeable but this did not spoil the enjoyment of the book. Quite the reverse. I wanted to know what was going to happen next and despite the books length it is a good easy read. When the ending came it was a bit unexpected and like other BCF members I now want to know what happens to Sugar and the others.
  9. That's a good problem to have.:D

  10. Hello and welcome.
  11. I would put it to the top of the pile Supergran.

It is funny and sad, and one of the few books that made me shed tears at the end.

It is set in New Hampshire and the narrator is remebering his childhood with Owen Meany.

It is a long book but for me it was a quick interesting read.

  12. I was quite happy with how things were going this year, but since my grandson was born I have read very little. Hopefully getting back on track (fingers crossed). My favourites this year are: What a carve Up

    Nearco

Hello Nearco! I have not read any Iain Bank's books before but I recently bought 'The Steep Appraoch to Garbadale' as an audio book. I am looking forward to listening to it.
