  1. I read this whilst on holiday last August - lying on a sunlounger by a pool, with all-inclusive beer to wash it down with. A perfect book for a perfect time!
  2. Sadly, it's not out in paperback until 22 Feb 2007, but as I've just had to buy a mountain of books for AS Level English, I guess that's no bad thing!!
  3. I haven't read 'Anybody Out There?' yet, because I hate hardbacks. I haven't read 'No Dress Rehearsal' either, but apart from that, I've read them all. Can't wait for AOT to be released in paperback.
  4. Now, I like Donny Osmond nearly as much as the next person (!) so I was looking forward to reading this. What can I say about it? Well, first of all, I did quite enjoy it, but not as much as I
  5. I loved the 'Magic Woodland series' series by Beverly Nichols - sadly they are out of print now, but I still have my original copies - the only books from my childhood that I kept. I also loved Enid Blyton, especially the Mallory Towers and St Clares series, not to mention 'The Land of Far Beyond' which was a child's version of A Pilgrim's Progress, if I remember correctly. I also loved E Nesbit's books.
  6. Wow - I only have three cousins and two second cousins in total!!
  7. That annoys me too - what's wrong with good old M&S?! Have you read State of the Union by Douglas Kennedy yet, and if so, what did you think of it?
  8. Rachel's Holiday is definitely my favourite. It's a clever story and I is one of those books where you are sorry it's finished!
  9. That's lovely Thanks! It made 'meeting' the in-laws a doddle!
  10. 1. I used to live near Gravesend in Kent, but now I live in Somerset 2. I'm married with two children. 3. I've known my husband all my life - we grew up in the same village. 4. I'm addicted to college 5. I had a middle name for my 40th birthday - added by deed poll so it's official!
  11. I love Marian Keyes too - a bit of light reading, and a good yarn! Rachel's Holiday is my favourite of hers so far, and I'm looking forward to 'Anybody Out There?' coming out in paperback.
  12. I really enjoyed it - I gave it a 9/10 too, I think. I've read Chocolat, Five Quarters of the Orange and Blackberry Wine, and enjoyed them, but this was very different, and quite possibly my favourite of her books so far.
  13. I've just finished The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini - it was brilliant, a 9/10. I'm not sure what to read next - some non-fiction, perhaps...?
  14. Wow - very impressive!
  15. Hi Tiger! Probably the wrong place to put this, but how are you? I don't seem to have seen you online for ages. ETA: Just read your post in Gen Chat - glad you had a good time in Cornwall/Devon.
  16. I don't watch loads of TV either, but Mr Bagpuss does, and I like total silence when I read! I read more when the children are at school as there is always time to read whilst waiting for the children to come out of school! I am impressed with the number of books you read!
  17. Can I ask how you manage to read so quickly? I struggle to read one book in a fortnight! I'm not being sarcastic by the way - I'm just curious, and a little jealous too!
  18. I haven't read it. I must confess, I'm not familiar with the author, but then I don't read historical novels, so perhaps that's why? I might give a historical novel a whirl one day - to see how I get on.
  19. Hello Nicky. Did you know she's got a new novel out? Between, Georgia I might have to invest in it when I go to Bath tomorrow.
  20. I've done a review of this in the relevant section, so this post is just to 'bump' my thread really as it's nearly on page 2 again! I've recently read gods In Alabama by Joshilyn Jackson, which I really enjoyed. I thought it was fantastic for a debut novel. I noticed last Friday that she has a second book out in paperback, which I might have to buy with my Waterstones gift voucher! I'm just about to start The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, which is my September book for my 'real life' bookworms group. I don't think I'd have picked this to read - which I guess is the good thing about reading groups!
  21. Yes, to be honest, it wasn't really worth the size of it! I probably wouldn't have bothered but someone on another forum recommended it, and was keen for me to read it!
  22. State Of The Union by Douglas Kennedy The
  23. I enjoyed Angela's Ashes. From what I can remember, the film was pretty true to the book. I haven't read many auto/biographies. I did read Martin Kemp's book, which was quite interesting, but not heavy going.
  24. I've re-read all my Famous Five, Mallory Towers and St Clares books recently. They are very dated now, of course, but I still enjoyed them! I've also read Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, Beyond This Place by A J Cronin and Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes more than once. Other than that, I have so many books on my 'To Read' pile, that I feel guilty if I don't concentrate on that!
