Gyre - I've added you. Hope that's okay. I thought that if I wrote a review it would come up in my library, but it didn't. I wonder where it went... ETA: I can see it when I click on reviews, but I thought it would be on my page too. Hmmm.
-
Will look into that one too, Nicky. Thanks. Library Thing has gone down. Do you think it's our fault for all rushing over in one day?!
-
Thanks Amy. LOL - watching does sound a bit stalkery! I've added you now.
-
I read this whilst studying Psychology at AS Level because it shows how a child is affected by separation anxiety. It wasn't the best read in the world, but is a real story of triumph against the poorest of starts in life. I don't think I'd rush out and buy any more by her though. This is one of the books I registered on Bookcrossing.
-
And, also predictably, I'm Bagpuss! I've sussed out how to add books now! ETA: How do you add someone?
-
It looks really good, but... I must be a bit stupid because although it says I've added a book, if I go to the libarary bit, there is nothing there!

Bookmarks or turned down pages or...?

What are metal petals? Two people have mentioned them and I'm curious! -
*g* Aww nice idea! My Grandmother was called Sarah, and so is my bestest friend, who is also God-Mummy to both my children. And my daughter has it as a middle name so it just seemed kind of appropriate!
-
I know! I'd always said I felt cheated by not having a middle name, so my husband asked if I wanted one for my 40th. I've had it added to my passport and have got a proper deed poll with a seal and everything!
-
Ah - I don't feel so bad now!
-
Ah yes - sorry I forgot you! As I forgot to release 3 books when I was away at the weekend, I need to find somewhere local to take them. I want to try to put them somewhere where they won't be moved by staff (eg if I left them in a shop). I thought maybe somewhere like a doctor's waiting room would be good, but I'm not bold enough to walk in and leave one if I haven't gone there for an appointment! I might leave one on the Park and Ride bus if I go into Bath tomorrow!

I have a metal 'J' which hooks over the top of the page, bought for me as a present, but... I hate it, because it damages the pages! I've got several bookmarks on the go. One is a laminated picture of my children, one is a Christmas card that was pretty, one is a 'business card' from a hotel I stayed in... I normally use something random like that, because I'm forever losing them! -
I felt the same about the book as you, and my daughter (aged 9) declared it 'boring'!

If you want to know anything else (with reason! ), then ask away...

Nicky - did you read all of those three books in one day? That's amazing, if you did!
-
I am new to him - it's my first attempt, in fact. Two people on the Neighbours board who are huge fans have recommended that I try Wyrd (sp?) Sisters, so I'm looking out for it in the secondhand shops.
-
I'm afraid I was one of the people who said that! I used to read Judy Astley. She used to bring out a new book every April, always straight into paperback, but 2006's book came out in hardback. Maybe she became more popular?
-
I released one in a garden centre on Friday - I shoved it inside a dovecote, so hopefully the staff won't find and remove it! I forgot to 'liberate' the other three I took with me, so will find somewhere to release them this week. The Bookcrossing site said there was one in Robert Dyas Ironmongers in Stratford-Upon-Avon (there was a 'photo of it, propped up in front of some rat poison), but when I went in, it had gone. I guess the staff removed it.

I feel such a failure, and I hate to admit this as it's the first 'reading circle' book I've bought, but I've had to give up on Hogfather. It's just not doing it for me at all. I do like Susan very much, and I like Death and his funny portrayal of someone being Father Christmas without much of a clue what it's about, and I love the way he TALKS IN CAPITAL LETTERS, but I just couldn't get to grips with the other story at all, about Teatime and Ridcully etc. It wasn't like I only read a bit of it either - I got to about half way through! I really wanted to like it, and I'm disappointed not to have but when reading becomes a chore... well, life is too short! I've got the DVD of it that a friend kindly taped for me, so I will see how the story pans out that way!

Having had a conversation with someone on here about Bookcrossing (sorry, it's slipped my mind who it was), I said that I'd registered and caught one, but that I hadn't manged to release any because I hate parting with books! Well, I've taken the plunge, and found four. One of which I've read, and the other three that I'm unlikely to read. I have registered them, and also found the one I caught so that I can release it back into the wild. I'm off to Stratford-Upon-Avon tomorrow, so I'm going to find somewhere to release them then! The bcid numbers are as follows: 898-4765761 546-3319308 147-4765785 193-4765792 051-4765805 If you haven't used this site before, You can enter the number here (where it says bcid) to see how it works!

LOL - it certainly sounds that way!

Thanks for the pic. I know one shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but I'm afraid I'm guilty of that! This one really isn't my cup of tea and I'd probably pass it by.
-
Is that Jonathan Strange and Mrs Norrell? If so, I must be looking at the wrong thing, as they are just very plain.

Dance, Dance, Dance by Haruki Murakami
Janet replied to Freewheeling Andy's topic in General Fiction
Oh gosh. I read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle a few years ago, and found it to be rather bizarre. I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy it, but I got to the end not quite knowing or understanding what had happened. I might try another one for comparison one day!
