  1. Poor you, Chrissie. What's Magyk about? There's no synopsis on Amazon and I can't be bothered to search Waterstone's/WHS/Borders!
  2. Yeah, that's true!
  3. I had to laugh at a) the fact he's styled his hair exactly like the Harry on the book cover (he might as well go the whole hog and buy some glasses) and he's looking cross... but he doesn't actually look cross at all - he looks like someone trying to look cross!
  4. I won't read your linked post yet as I intend to read this eventually, but I'm glad to hear you liked it.
  5. That was a good bargain with your brother, Ned! I took a bag of books to a charity shop today, and came away with: Remembrance by Theresa Breslin Witch Child by Celia Rees
  6. I finished Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There by Lewis Carroll last night. My thoughts here. I have to read my 'Bookworms' book by 3 November but I'm going to try to fit Remembrance by Theresa Breslin in first!
  7. I've changed the title to the popular shortened version of both Alice books because the thread has turned into a discussion of both and I didn't want to start a new one for Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There. Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There by Lewis Carroll The
  8. Cool - I'll look forward to it.
  9. That's a whole thread in itself! I've only read one 'sequel' written by someone else (Peter Pan in Scarlet) and I wasn't impressed at all. I have about 20 or so pages left of Through The Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There by Lewis Carroll left which I am going to finish when I go up to bed shortly.
  10. I think it would make a great stocking filler! Chesilbeach - perhaps you could drop hints for your stocking?!
  11. Thanks - I'm definitely planning on reading some of those. The covers are so cute! (That's not the reason though!). Ceinwenn - it was good fun.
  12. Oh gosh no, I'm not thinking that at all. I know it's a hugely popular and influential book, but I hated The Catcher in the Rye with a passion. I know people who love it though and they all think I'm bonkers - in a nice way!
  13. That's so true! I'm reading Through the Looking-Glass... at the moment, and it reminds me of Paula!
  14. That's what's so good about books - we all have different likes and dislikes - one persons great book is anothers not-so-good. I agree that Connie was irritating - and like you, I guessed the ending - but I thought it was great.
  15. What a lot of work! It was difficult enough doing one A level (although I was old when I did it, so that's my excuse! ). I found that I didn't get much time for reading for pleasure either. Good to see you around though, even if you haven't got much 'bookish' news.
  16. Hi Ben - nice of you to pop by! I was thinking about you the other day (whilst looking guiltily at Treasure Island, which I still haven't got round to reading! It's the first book I remember us discussing) and wondering how you were. How's 6th form? (ETA: Just reading your thread - I'll reply there ).
  17. Yesterday I finished Modern Delight - a collection of short (no longer than 2

  19. I voted for Winnie The Pooh! Don't forget, the voting closes tomorrow at 2pm!
  20. I've just ordered it too -
  21. Good riddance, I say. We have enough lovely members who want to discuss books - we can well do without this one.
  22. I don't know what it is about her, as I know I'm in the minority, but Karen Hardy gives me the creeps! I can't seem to get as involved in this series. It's probably not helped by the fact I don't know who half the 'celebs' actually are.
  23. It was! I've read all hers bar the latest which has recently come out in paperback believe, so I must look out for it. On Monday I finished The Day Job by Mark Wallington. Review here.
