AIE: Now, Janet, THAT is a Library!!
Lovely, isn't it.
Sorry Devi. I know Melbourne is in Victoria - for some reason I just thought you said it was a library in Sydney when you posted in frankie's thread and I didn't go back to check and didn't see your post in here.
-
I stole your picture Janet! I nabbed it for my new desKtop background.
Awww, that's nice.
-
Thanks all. It was Devi who inspired the idea though with her beautiful pictures of Sydney library which is stunning.
It's a shame you guys couldn't prevent your library from closing. I must say I quite like your new one though.
Some wonderful libraries. Kell - I love the statues in the pavements - awesome. Marcia - I like your top library.
This is Bristol's main library - the Bristol Central Library. I think this library is lovely.
And this is the entrance lobby.
-
It doesn't matter - I'm really enjoying it.
-
Thanks guys.
It could be Narnia.
Maybe I'd better go back and look for a wardrobe!

I'm halfway through the Book Thief and it is definitely living up to the hype!
I'm glad you're enjoying it.
I'm still reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. I'm really enjoying it but I just don't seem to have any time to read at the moment.
-
I agree - great libraries emelee. The city library looks especially amazing from the outside.
I know they've gone under, but they could have waited before nicking the sign from the local Jessop's and writing "The Library" on it!
Here is Stratford upon Avon's library. We stayed there (Stratford, not the library
) in 2011 but we were so busy we didn't actually find time to go inside, sadly. Isn't it gorgeous!
-
Hurrah!

This was a Kindle freebie, and there were some formatting errors throughout. It was clearly based on an illustrated version, but though the illustrations were missing the description of them remained. So the beginning of some paragraphs have a little description, before starting the text, such as: “Man reading book I remember going to the British Museum one day….” It threw me to begin with, but after a while it stopped bothering me, though I think the illustrations would be quite nice.
I'm currently reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall on Kindle and I had the same experience as you. I wondered why it suddenly said random things that seemed unconnected to the story - it took me a while to realise it was to do with the missing illustrations!
-
Oooh, how exciting - looks like it's me!
Solomons, Natasha – Mr Rosenblum’s List
I hope you enjoy it!
ETA: What a great idea for choosing when one is stuck for inspiration.

Great pics, guys.
Chalie, your library looks to be a similar size to the one in the village I grew up in.
Kay - your library looks prettyful on the inside but I agree it's not the most attractive building from the outside. I've not been to Swindon library it looks... huge!
-
Plenty of Rush is always a good thing!
Well my library thread was a hit. Not.
Oh well - you win some, you lose some.
-
That Mary Poppins cover is gorgeous!
-
I know you share my feelings, Alex!
you could always start it from the point you abandoned it - if you haven't blocked it out of your mind!
Yay for another list lover.
And thanks - they are rather awesome, aren't they!
-
Don't forget me!
Yay - another member of the list club!
No way! That is insanely cheap! I'm so jealous, Janet! For that price over here, you could only get about 2 of those Vintage Classics, and I consider that pretty cheap. You lucky, lucky thing!
Wow, that's great
. I hope you enjoy them
. I've just ordered a few Charles Dickens books myself actually, judging by the list on the site you posted, I may have them all or nearly all, soon.
Thanks - I couldn't believe it! I don't know what made me think to look on there when I did - so lucky!
-
You can move my posts there if you like!
I haven't, because they've had discussion about them in here and it will interrupt the flow, but please post them again in the thread I've just started as I'm sure plenty of other people would like to appreciate the beauty of it.
-
Inspired by some discussion in frankie's book blog, what is your library like? Do you like to visit libraries other than your 'local' one.
If you would like to, please post pictures, but do not Hotlink. Instead, please first upload them to somewhere like Photobucket or Flickr (both free) or similar and then use the [ IMG] tags.
I love libraries, even though I don't use them as much as I probably should!
This one is my local...
It's small, and it doesn't open on a Wednesday (or Sunday) - I don't get all my books from here, but I do return them all to this one!
This is my next closest...
This one only opens Tuesday, Friday and Saturday morning! This one is moving some time this year into a new building. It's a shame, as I think this one is beautiful (lovely windows) but maybe it will open longer hours...?
I don't have a picture of Swansea library (in Wales) but I do randomly have one of the view!
I couldn't use this library for studying (If I was studying!) - I'd spend all my time gazing out of the window!
More to come from me!
-
I've just ordered this set of Dickens books from The Book People!
I will probably read the actual books on my Kindle, but they were so prettyful and only £19.99 (and free postage as I was a new customer) that I just wanted them! I'll take me years to get through them all!
-
Yes! One of the women I work with, she's awesome and lovely and also a bookworm and fan of many things that I'm a fan of. She's gonna come with me. SO excited!
Ah good - I'm glad you found someone to go with - I've been to the theatre on my own before, and it's fine, but it's always nice to have some company.
-
Oh wow, that's amazing!I
I think I'll start a thread for people to post pictures of libraries in - in the General Book Discussions section - when I get home from work.
-
Fabulous idea!
And if she fell (which she wouldn't, she's obviously a natural talent!), there'd be snow to cushion her landing
Hahaha
... the possibilites are endless .. though what could I do for Sexing the Cherry?
You'd definitely need to put that one behind spoiler tags!
How bad is it .. on a scale of one to ten .. if you buy a book for your great-niece and then .. because it looks like a very nice book and you've long wanted to read it but it's a book for littlies so you haven't necessarily had the opportunity before .. sort of read it before sending? .. in a very careful .. not opening the book very wide and definitely not eating or drinking or doing anything sticky .. type way?
I should think that's fairly standard practice amongst bookie people!
-
At the moment I'm quickly re-reading The Importance Of Being Earnest out of celebration of going to see it on stage for the first time in a couple of weeks!
Did you find someone to go with? I hope you enjoy it (well, I know you'll enjoy it, but you know what I mean!).
-
Oh. And you know what? I really miss your previous reading log... Whenever I went to comment on it or check out the first page for different lists, I would see your comment after one of the links to one of your previous reading logs and it said something like 'Thanks Janet! It once was lost but now is found..' and I assume that's from the one song (is it a hymn?) and it always made me laugh and go all 'awwwww'
I miss having that!
Edit: This:
Books read 2010 - it once was lost but now is found .. thank you Janet
Awwwww!
It's from the hymn Amazing Grace.

It's really gorgeous, Bree.
Last ones from me (well, last one that I've taken myself, anyway!) is Cardiff library.
Obviously the signs are bilingual
And it has lovely views of the city - here you can just about see the Millennium stadium...
