Missed out Secret Shopper's Revenge Kate Harrison. good fun, on a book ring if interested

Rebecca Tope A Cotswold Killing, OK
Quite underwhelmed somehow, thought it would be more fun somehow never got to know the characters and really understand what was going on!

I've done it lots (hmm maybe not that good then) I find it simple, healthy and easy to adapt for a family. Unfortunately I am very good at cheating on it now but that is me!

Was it you who recommended it, because it was great. Just found her an inspirational woman who gave meat to the story of Ann Frank who I have read since about 10 years old!
Astonishing to find out how the Dutch reacted to the Nazis and her and her husband were incredible, so young and so responsible (wrong word). Don't often read non fiction but this was fabulous.

Anne Frank Remembered: The Story of the Woman Who Helped to Hide the Frank Family by Miep Gies and Alison Leslie Gold

Exactly as you said Michelle, have been left chilled and thoughtful, so thrilling that read it in a day, and was excited and scared in equal measure, very very clever.

And careers advisers are never wrong! (careers are in my faculty too)
Therapy by Sebastian Fitzek, very scarey and twisty ace. Thanks Michelle!

Good mix (I'm head of humanities so a bit biased!)

Oh I love History, will be taking it at 6th form in September.
Which GCSE are you doing?
-
No I haven't read any of them. And that review wasn't half bad.
Thank you, all these compliments and a history fan! (that's my subject too)

Saw this in Smiths for half price and liked the cover!
Then feeling noble got it from the library and it was ace!
Here is the blurb from Fantastic Fiction:
Smashed skull, snapped ribs, and a cloying smell of carrion. Leave the body for the hyenas to devour—no body, no case.
But when Kalahari game rangers stumble on a human corpse midmeal, it turns out the murder wasn't perfect after all. Enough evidence is left to suggest foul play. Detective David "Kubu" Bengu of the Botswana Criminal Investigation Department is assigned to the case.
The detective's personality and physique match his moniker. The nickname "Kubu" is Setswana for "hippopotamus"—a seemingly docile creature, but one of the deadliest on the continent. Beneath Kubu's pleasant surface lies the same unwavering resolve that makes the hippopotamus so deceptively dangerous. Both will trample everything in their path to reach an objective.
From the sun-baked riverbeds of the Kalahari to the highest offices of an international conglomerate, Kubu follows a blood-soaked trail in search of answers.
Beneath a mountain of lies and superstitions, he uncovers a chain of crimes leading to the most powerful figures in the country—influential enemies who will kill anyone in their way.
A memorable detective makes his debut in this gritty, mesmerizing thriller. Set amid the beauty and darkness of contemporary Africa, A Carrion Death is the first entry in an evocative new series cutting to the heart of today's Botswana—a modern democracy threatened by unstable neighbors, poachers, and diamond smugglers. Those trying to expose the corrupt ringleaders will find themselves fighting for their lives. . . .
I loved this! A great thriller, set in a beautiful and dangerous place. It is written by two people Michael Sears and Stanley Trollip who are native Africans from South Africa. It looks like they have had a very exciting life, hunting lions etc and this makes the place that they draw very real for me. The main character Kubu is lovely, a real change not to have a tortured detective. All in all a really interesting crime story not too much to think about sort of Precious MacKenzie but a bit scarier (does that make sense?) but a cracking good read.
Phew I hate writing reviews !

Me too, it's on my book-shelf.
Have you read the others?
Michael Stanley Carrion Death which was so good I am going to try and review it (which I am really bad at!)

I put mine on risi and bookmooch and when they've been there a bit I take them to work so people can have them there if they want. Although if anyone wants anything from my risi list or that I'm reading let me know because I'd rather pass them on to people here and reduce tbr. I'm ronald on risi.

I know (and hate that feeling!)

Arriving from library today, better not be too scarey KEHS!

This is the first time I've posted on this site. Had to start by saying that I too love Karin Slaughter's writing. I enjoy how her characters draw you into their own stories, without detracting from the great plot lines. I do have to say, though,I was slightly 'upset' and shocked at how Skin Privilege ended. I won't give anything away but I hope some other of her avid readers agree with me??
I'm looking forward to reading her latest addition to the Atlanta series 'Fractured'..when I get the chance!
And it is fabulous, I read it before Christmas, Will Trent is great!
-
Yes and with Simon Waterhouse and Charlie Zailer and their relationship is developing
-
It is but I wonder if she got the idea from Jodi Picoult's Change of Heart. ??
Which I haven't read but probably!
-
I read this just before Christmas, clever idea, I thought
-
Sophie Hannah The Point of Rescue, absolutely fabulous! Great thriller really scarey and believable somehow! I love this series!
