5. Books require too much of an investment of time.
Moviesalso require an investment of time, but I don't see this list saying that movies are a waste of it!
Exactly what I was thinking. What is on tv these days worth watching, yet people spend meaningless hours glued to it. Give me a book anyday over that.
All of those points are ridiculous! Whoever wrote this obviously wasn't thinking about it very carefully! I don't honestly think that someone can have these reasons not to read. People who don't read just don't have the desire, or are too lazy. That's it.You have hit the nail on the head there Echo. The list does say one good thing, that people in today's society are getting lazy. It is part of the easy, want it all culture we are living in. It is easier to switch on the tv, or watch a movie than to read a book, just like lots things are becoming easier. It is not always a good thing.

Fish fingers tonight. Why will Katie eat fish fingers, but when we have a cod, or other fish, fillet and mash, she won't eat it.
-
Well it turns out it was a different one I was thinking of anyway!
The Flowers in The Attic was the favouite film if my Dad's ex-girlfriend, so i saw it quite a few times. I didn't know at the time it was a book. I will have to get it myself.
-
I am quite sure that Flowers In The Attic is on our book sales list. I will have to find the list and start pricing things up. You can have it if it is there, and you want it.

Katie got her second bookcrawl certificate last week. Two at the age of one!
Karen - I have never seen my library website advertised, but it is very good, although it takes some navigating. It is a regional one on the council website.

I didn't succeed either!!
Ice Cream - do they have Storytime at your library? I used to take my children to storytime at the library for under 5s - they were both engrossed in amongst all the other kids wandering around making noise and stuff
Yes. I just haven't got around to getting there, for lots of reasons. I thought Katie was a bit too young for the storytime until recently, the music session is on at the same time as baby group, and then there is getting out in time to walk downtown for the session. It is time for a change now that Katie is one and can't go to baby group, so I think we will either go to toddle group and the music session at the library, or the storytime and the 0-5 group (the library groups are on the same mornings as the other groups). I am going to go to both toddle groups this week to see how Katie likes them.

I mainly read in bed, but long train journeys are ideal to get stuck into a good book. I always take a book when I go to the doctors or for any other appointment where you are guaranteed to be left waitingMe too. I had the dentist yesterday so I went armed with my book, put lots of time on the car parking ticket and of course because I was so prepared they saw me early!I often find that when you're prepared for the down-time and have something to occupy you with, there isn't any! And when you leave the book/whatever home, thinking you won't need it anyways, you find yourself waiting for something for half an hour, staring at the walls and counting badly dressed people that walk by. It's the whole umbrella-thing all over again.
Exactly the case ii. When I go to the doctors, or something like that I am always occupied by Katie, as I was when we spent a couple of hours i hospital with her a few weeks ago and I only got a couple of pages read. Yesterday OH took me out for a driving lesson but neglected to tell me he was going to a few banks in town first! I would have taken my book if I had known.
I could come up with loads of these examples. It is part of the reason I am not reading well at the moment.

What's so special about making your own Yorkshire puds?? Easy peasy.
Er, are they? Well I haven't tried so I wouldn't know. You are probably right.
We had fish fingers tonight with mash, caulifower and cabbage. I gave Katie her mash and veg before I let her see the fish fingers because whn we had sausage last week she wouldn't eat the mash afterwards.

I use it every few weeks, largely for the kids' books (they are all voracious readers too especially my eldest daughter who seems to be on a mission to read everything Enid Blyton ever wrote at the moment). Occasionally, I'll pick up something for me - like a hardback I'd feel guilty about buying myself! - but I have copped a lot of library fines over the years so never get more than one at a time.
That is what I tend to do. I take my daughter to the library every two or three weeks and we choose new books together and now and again I will look for something I am interested in reading, or browse and something will catch my eye. I look forward to taking both my children to choose their own books when they are older.
My old Enid Blyton books are in Katie's room so in a few years she might see them herself.
Michelle - Is that Beth? Has she tried reading Blyton at all?

Wow Lily, you make your own yorkshires!
Me and Katie went to Mum's tonight (OH is still away decorating) and had a chicken roast. She didn't put yorkshires in though. She sometimes forgets, and I was so busy with Katie being fussy that I forgot to tell her off.

Books that have changed my life
The Bible
Teaches me daily how to be a better person.
Susan Howatch's - The Heartbreaker
Made me realise that a deep emotional pain I had desperately needed healing, and sparked a very difficult journey of recovery.
-
That sounds delicious Nici.

Welcome Lucy. This is certainly a great place to be. No doubt Michelle will tell us what she thinks of your book, then maybe you will get more sales. Enjoy the forum.

homemade mince burgers with gravey, fried oinons for hubby, cabbage and potatoes
That sounds great. How do you make burgers?
We had more spaghetti bolognese tonight (well I did, as Katie is not well).

Kell, I think that is only if you have an allergy in your family, as it prevents the baby from getting the allergy.
This thread is so good for a heavily pregnant woman with a toddler. I usually snack on fruit or crackers, or maybe toast since being very pregnant, but I am just so very hungry with having both children and have been struggling to think of healthy snacks that are substantial enough to get me through the morning, or afternoon with the children, but not too much. Keep the ideas flowing. I need them..(and so will Kell).

Completed Liszt's Kiss and really quite enjoyed it. As some-one who appreciates classical music I found myself drawn into this one. This really brought the passion of music to life - although it was combined with those age old problems of grief, greed, money and love.
Sounds like another one for my TBR pile there Angel! Having studied classical music, which I love, it sounds very interesting indeed.

Welcme to the forum.

Spaghetti bolagnese.
Katie has just started to try and feed herself this week. She can get the food from the dish into her mouth, but hasn't quite worked out how to pick food up. The consequence?
Tonight I decided just to chop her spaghetti up so she could learn to chew her meals rather than having them blended. She did very well at eating her mince etc, but a lot of her meal was flung all over the kitchen, including my coat and her carseat which were behind her on the settee.
-
Yum! That's one of my very favourite meals, Icecream! Any leftovers?
Er, not unless you fancied Katie's mash, carrots, cauliflower and gravy mixed together (exactly how she usually likes it anyway:lol:).
Tonight we had curry, and I gave Katie the last sausage in the packet with the remains of last nights dinner and some rice.
-
Sausage, mash, veg and onion gravy. The gravy was ok, but it went wrong because at the precise moment I was doing it, Katie got stuck and I had to rescue her instead of stiring it. Plus, she only ate her sausage and wouldn't have her mash:roll:

My OH likes it when I am reading too. He knows I won't annoy him while he is doing his business and I am absorbed in my book or Christianity magazine, but he still expects me to be listening either to the tv or his phone conversations and looks upset if I don't answer a question. He doesn't really want me to listen anyway!

Welcome Raine. How old is your tot? I have a toddler too (Or she will be in a couple of weeks), so I am going to be getting into bigger books with her myself soon. I would be grateful for any book reading tips you can give me on reading with toddlers. Maybe we could swap?

Welcome Jenni:)

I used to go there a lot in my final year as a student, but I was hge back then!
Ideas for cereal?

I don't like milk either, so I usually have my cereal straight from the packet as it comes. It tastes good. Shredded wheat is good with water. Otherwise, fruit, dried or not is a good option. Also honey, nuts. I suppose it depends on what cereal you eat.
